SOL American Conference
PENNRIDGE 3, NORTH PENN 2 (25-19, 20-25, 22-25, 25-20, 15-13)
The Rams trailed 2-1 after three sets but rallied to win the next two, eking out a win in classic battle between the neighboring rivals.
Four Rams finished the match with double-digit kills. Ethan Lionetti led the way with 15 kills and seven digs. Ryan Benscoter had 11 kills and five digs, and Chris McKinney had 12 kills and 11 digs. Danny Rutter had 10 kills and nine digs. Matt McCreary also was a force at the net, finishing with nine kills and five blocks. Setter Austin Jalosinski had 44 assists and three blocks. Tommy Cassel added six digs and three aces.
For the Knights, Michael Wang led the way at the net with 12 kills, one ace, three blocks and eight digs. Evan Rothmann added nine kills, five aces and nine digs. Setter Drew Coles had 31 assists, three aces and seven digs. Jamie Stewart added seven digs. Also making important contributions were Zach Jayes (four kills, one ace, four blocks, two digs), Luke Yoder (four kills, two aces, two blocks, three digs), Kevin Abraham (five kills, three blocks, five digs) and Ryan Stewart (five digs).
Pennridge (1-1) will compete in the Bobcat Invitational at Northeastern High School on Saturday.
UPPER DUBLIN 3, CENTRAL BUCKS WEST 0 (25-17, 25-13, 25-15)
The visiting Flying Cardinals rolled to a sweep of the Bucks.
Matt Ross led the way at the net with 11 kills to go along with eight digs and one ace. David Levin (10 assists, four digs) and Devin O’Brien (11 assists, one dig) shared setting duties. Ciaran Sutherland added five kills while Mario Petushi had five kills, one ace, one block and three digs. Joey Levin (one kill, two blocks) and Taco Thompson (four digs) also contributed.
CENTRAL BUCKS EAST 3, SOUDERTON 0 (25-14, 25-18, 25-10)
The Patriots upped their conference-best record to 3-0 with a sweep of the Indians.
Dylan Colbert and Jacob LaBouliere led the Patriot attack. Colbert finished with 13 kills, nine digs and four blocks while LaBouliere registered 10 kills, three aces and nine digs. East had strong efforts once again from their middles, as Christian Wolf added four kills, a block, and two digs and Thomas Gallagher-Teske contributed four kills, eight blocks, and five digs. CJ Dalby accounted for two kills, three blocks, and two digs, and Jack Miller collected three blocks and a dig. Once again, setter Steve Storm directed the balanced attack, dishing out 30 assists to go along with a kill, three aces, three blocks, and four digs, while the defense was stabilized by Ryan Figus and his eight digs.
For the Indians, Aidan Wunderly had eight kills, and Jimmy Wert had seven kills, three aces and four digs.
CENTRAL BUCKS SOUTH 3, QUAKERTOWN 2 (20-25, 25-22, 25-23, 18-25, 15-10)
In a match that was a roller coaster ride for both side, the Titans edged the visiting Panthers in a five-set match.
“This was a back and forth match, and I was very proud of how we continued to work for every point,” South coach Matt Ehlers said. “Setters Andrew Rubas and Brandon Wisniewski spread the ball around and recorded 19 and 11 assists respectively.
“Mason Zeo had an all-around game with three aces, six kills, four blocks, an assist and 15 digs. Senior Jonathan Zonshein also performed as a team leader with three aces, nine kills, three blocks, an assist, and 12 digs. Middle hitter Connor Wisniewski had a solid game at the net with five blocks and a kill.”
For the Panthers, Justin Flor had 16 kills, two aces, six blocks and nine digs, and Cameron Cronk added 12 kills, one block and four digs. Setter Ty Fosbenner had 33 assists to go along with two kills and 15 digs. Also making important contributions were Ryan DiCandilo (four kills, two blocks), Nathan Barkholz (three kills, one ace, one block, three digs) and Zach Frei (three kills, four aces, one block, six digs).
SOL National Conference
NESHAMINY 3, COUNCIL ROCK SOUTH 2 (25-22, 25-20, 22-25, 21-25, 15-8)
In a tightly contested match, the Redskins won the first two sets and then had to fight off a comeback by the Golden Hawks, who rallied to knot the match 2-2.
Tony Camillo had a huge night at the net with 20 kills and four blocks to go along with two aces and five digs. Matt Schwab added seven kills, six digs and one ace while Jesse Marshall contributed eight kills and five blocks. Jesse Kovaschetz (15 digs, one ace) and Paul Allen (12 digs, five kills, one ace) led the Redskins’ defense. Setter Nick Storz had 45 assists, two aces, three kills, one block and eight digs. Ben Clendening added two kills and four blocks while Stephen Fario had one dig.
For the Golden Hawks, Andrew Richards led the team in kills and digs, finishing with 22 kills and a hitting average of .250 to go along with 20 digs, receiving a 2.4. He also had two blocks. Mitchell Gribman directed the offense with 68 assists, one ace and eight digs. Jatin Singh added four kills and was a force at the net with three blocks. Dylan Baptiste had three kills and two blocks, Josh “Brick” Berkowitz had one ace and six digs, Alec Rovner had seven kills, seven digs and one ace, and Jadon “JD” Freed had five aces and nine digs.
“I’m impressed with their fight and willingness to consistently challenge themselves and stay aggressive in tight situations,” Rock South coach Jacquelyn Curci said. “They have a lot to be proud of.”
COUNCIL ROCK NORTH 3, ABINGTON 1 (22-25, 25-22, 27-25, 25-8)
The visiting Indians dropped the first set but rallied to win the next three.
Sean D’Arcy and Justin Burns led the Indians at the net with 11 kills each. D’Arcy also had a team-high 16 digs and one service ace. Burns had 12 digs, one ace and one block. Nick Desautelle contributed eight kills, 12 digs and four aces while Seth Connors had five kills, five digs and three aces. Vytis Duncia had 38 assists, eight digs, one kill and one ace.
Outside hitter Danny Gonzalez led the Ghosts with 14 kills while Juan Perez had six. Setter Toulant Kurti and Ross Armon had strong games dictating the offense with nine and six assists respectively. Defensively, the Ghosts had nine blocks. Sean Dougherty had six digs and Danny Gonzalez had four digs.
