SOL American Conference
PENNRIDGE 3, QUAKERTOWN 0 (25-21, 25-17, 25-22)
The Rams opened the SOL season with a sweep of the Panthers.
Riley Kodidek spread the ball around, finishing with 36 assists to go along with three kills, six digs and three ace. Jude Rotondo led the Rams with 13 kills as well as two aces. Tyler Johnson added eight kills and two blocks, and Thomas McKinney had seven kills and four digs. Nick Smith contributed five kills and two blocks, and Jason McCreary added four kills.
Alex Dirk led the Rams’ defense with 12 digs to go along with two aces. Gain Tirjan had five digs.
For the Panthers, Zander Marks had six kills and one block while Micah Reinford contributed five kills. Adding three kills each were Andre Sturgess and Kevin Richwine. Phil Richwine had one kill. Setter Cody Steiert finished with 13 assists, two blocks and one kill. Leading the Panthers’ defense was Kurt Glaeser with 13 digs.
Pennridge (1-0) will travel to Central Bucks South on Tuesday, and Quakertown (0-1) will be on the road at Upper Dublin on Tuesday.
Non-league
ABINGTON 3, UPPER DUBLIN 2 (25-18, 22-25, 25-20, 21-25, 15-10)
Abington improved to 2-0 on the young season with a win over Upper Dublin on Monday night.
“The game went back and forth throughout the night and was well played by both teams,” Abington first-year coach Jason Barshinger said.
Abington received major contributions from Xavier Voit. The 6’9” middle hitter tallied 14 kills, six aces and four blocks on the night. Outside hitter Zach Miller added 11 kills and one block. Opposite hitter Myles Winegrad totaled four kills, three aces and six blocks.
For the Cardinals, Benjamin Dorsey (14 kills, 4 digs) and Terrell Turner (14 kills, 2 blocks, 1 dig) led the attack. Landon Kullmann also had double-digit kills with 10. He also had one ace and one dig. Setter David Levin handed out 35 assists and also had four kills, four aces and four digs. Dominick Plaku led the defense with seven digs and also added a kill.
“It was a great match against a solid Abington squad,” UD coach Paul Choi said.
Abington (2-0) will host Pennsbury on Wednesday, March 30 with JV at 3:30 and varsity to follow. Upper Dublin (0-1) will host Quakertown on Tuesday.
NESHAMINY 3, CENTRAL BUCKS EAST 0 (25-20, 25-13, 25-16)
The Redskins used a balanced attack to down the visiting Patriots in straight sets.
“CB East is always a tough team to play against, especially for your season opener,” Neshaminy coach Pat Klingerman said. “They are very well coached and battled throughout the match. We managed to clean things up from the service line after the first set. Tough test tomorrow at William Tennent.”
Setter Josh Adler had 26 assists to go along with six digs, three kills and one ace. Kieran Edwards led the Redskins with nine kills and also had one ace, one dig and one block. Dan Berzin added six kills while Josh Clendening had five kills, four aces, four digs and one assist. Josh Hamilton also had five kills to go along with five digs, one ace and one block. Ben Clendening added three kills, three blocks and one assist. Michael Sooby had two aces, one kill, two digs and one assist. Adding one kill each were Brandon Sloskey, John Nice and Aiden Hastings. Liam Smith chipped in one assist.
East was led tonight by Matt LaBouliere, who piled up 10 kills, eight assists, four digs, and two aces. AJ Helveston added six kills and nine digs, and Josh Lyzinski contributed and a block. Aiden Leichter and Steve DiRugeris collected 11 and nine digs respectively, and Ryan Coxey chipped in 11 assists and a dig. Pat Haurin and Andrew Perillo each accounted for two kills and one block.
Neshaminy (1-0) will be on the road at William Tennent on Tuesday, and Central Bucks East (1-1, 1-0 SOL) will host Souderton on Tuesday.
