NESHAMINY 3, BENSALEM 0 (25-15, 25-19, 25-21)
The Redskins picked up their third win in as many outings with a sweep of the visiting Owls.
"Another great team win over a very scrappy Bensalem team,” Neshaminy coach Pat Klingerman said. “They made us work for every point all night.
“I want to thank everyone for showing up tonight for our Dig Blue, Fight Against Colon Cancer game, which was dedicated to Jennifer Hamilton. Her presence was one of love and positivity. All of our proceeds from this event will go to the Colon Cancer Coalition in her memory. Thank you for coming tonight to raise awareness and funds for the Colon Cancer Coalition."
Setter Josh Adler was credited with 26 assists to go along with one kill and four digs. Ben Clendening (8 kills, 7 blocks) and Kieran Edwards (8 kills, 2 aces, 1 dig) led the Redskins at the net. Josh Clendening added six kills, two digs and one block, and Josh Hamilton had four aces, five kills and two digs. Michael Sooby led the defense with seven digs. Dan Berzin added three aces, four kills, three digs and one block. Also making contributions were Beknazar Baiyshbekov (3 digs), Aiden Hastings (1 kill) and Liam Smith (1 assist).
For the Owls, Ricky Patel (11 assists 5 digs), libero Arjun Patel (12 digs 3 aces) and defensive specialist Rohan Patel (8 digs 2 aces) all had strong games. The offense was led by Jeremy Rodriguez (9 kills) and Shiv Parekh (7 kills). Neshaminy (3-0 SOL) will host Abington on Wednesday, and Bensalem (1-2) plays Lansdale Catholic in a non-league match at home on Monday.
COUNCIL ROCK NORTH 3, ABINGTON 1 (16-25, 25-19, 25-18, 25-21)
The Ghosts earned a win in the opening set, but the Indians won the next three to earn the hard fought win.
Brady Klein led the Indians at the net with 13 kills to go along with six digs. Nick Alleborn added nine kills and two blocks, Luke Sill contributed seven kills, four blocks and 11 digs while Anthony DePalo had six kills and one block. Setter Dylan VanSchaick had 32 assists and nine digs. Will Scott contributed two kills and nine digs.
For the Ghosts, Xavier Voit (11 kills, 2 digs, 2 blocks), Myles Winegrad (9 kills, 11 digs, 1 block), Zach Miller (8 kills, 9 digs, 1.5 blocks) and Ben Holler (7 kills, 8 digs, 1 block) led the way at the net. Setter Colin Mulvihill and 36 assists as well as one kill and six digs. Jake Kosik led the defense with 20 digs. Also contributing were Michael Lyou (2 kills, 2 digs, .5 blocks), Pat McBride (2 digs) and Joe Clark (2 blocks).
Council Rock North (3-0 SOL) will host Souderton in a non-league match on Saturday, and Abington (2-2, 1-2) will host La Salle in a non-league match on Monday.
WILLIAM TENNENT 3, PENNSBURY 0
Sparked by a strong defensive effort, the visiting Panthers notched a sweep of the Falcons.
Setter Paul Nedeoglo had 23 assists. Jay Layer’s 15 digs led the defense. He also had three aces and four kills. Cody Keeny had 13 digs, and Anthony Buono added eight. Connor Fleming led the attack with eight kills. Mike Catelli contributed four blocks and one kill.
William Tennent (3-1, 2-1 SOL) will travel to Northeastern High School on Saturday.
COUNCIL ROCK SOUTH 3, CHELTENHAM 0
Sparked by an overpowering serving game, the Golden Hawks evened their record at 1-1 with a sweep of the visiting Panthers.
Senior Nolan Rosenberg had six aces and five assists, and Josh Rowlands added six aces. Junior Adil Abakirov had a team high seven aces, and junior Matt Jarek added three blocks. Sophomore Gabe Ceruilli had five kills while sophomore Ethan Harding had four. Alan Smagulov contributed six assists.
Council Rock South (1-1) will host La Salle in a non-league match on Friday, and Cheltenham (0-3) will be on the road at Bensalem on Tuesday.
SOL American Conference
QUAKERTOWN 3, CENTRAL BUCKS SOUTH 2 (25-18, 20-25, 18-25, 25-13, 15-12)
The Panthers notched their first win of the young season, rallying from a 2-1 deficit to win the final two sets.
Micah Reinford (14 kills, 1 block, 12 digs) and Zander Marks (11 kills, 3 blocks, 2 aces, 15 digs) had huge games both offensively and defensively. Kevin Richwine added eight kills and one block. Andrew Sturgess (3 kills, 2 blocks, 3 digs) and Isaac Moises (2 kills, 1 block) also contributed. Setter Cody Steiert had 38 assists, one block, five aces and nine digs. Anthony Clark contributed 14 digs and four aces while Kurt Glaeser had six digs and two aces.
For the Titans, setters Josh Conley (4 kills, 22 assists, 7 digs) and Sam Snyder (2 aces, 14 assists, 8 digs) spread the ball to all of the hitters. Will Nothum (10 kills, 2 blocks, 3 digs, 1 assist) and Ben Grove (1 ace, 10 kills, 1 block, 4 digs) led the offense. Will Tantum led the team in serve receive and defense recording 10 digs.
“While we didn’t get the win tonight, we took a big step forward, and it’s just a matter of time before we get that first win,” South coach Matt Ehlers said. “All five of our starting sophomores stepped up and are gaining more and more experience every time we play.”
Quakertown (1-2 SOL) will compete in the Bobcat Invitational Tournament on Saturday. Central Bucks South (0-3) will host Southern Lehigh in a non-league match Monday.
CENTRAL BUCKS EAST 3, NORTH PENN 0
The Patriots used a balanced attack to earn a sweep of the Knights.
Matt LaBoulilere contributed all over the court, finishing with six kills, 14 assists, two aces, four blocks and 10 digs. Josh Lyzinski (6 kills, 2 aces, 5 blocks, 1 dig), Andrew Perillo 6.5 blocks, 1 dig, 4 kills), Pat Haurin (4 kills, 1.5 blocks, 2 digs), AJ Helveston (4 kills, 1.5 blocks, 10 digs) and Reid Miller (4 kills, 4 aces, 1 block) all made contributions at the net. Aiden Leichter added 12 digs, two aces and two assists, and Ryan Coxey had four digs and eight assists. Steve DiRugeris added four digs.
For the Knights, senior Brian Landes led the way with six assists, one block and one ace. Senior Aaron Foulkes led the defense with five blocks and added five kills to the offense.
Central Bucks East (2-2, 2-1 SOL) will compete in the Bobcat Invitational on Saturday, and North Penn (1-2) will host Lower Merion in a non-league match on Friday.
UPPER DUBLIN 3, SOUDERTON 0
The visiting Cardinals eked out a win in the opening set and went on to defeat the Indians in straight sets.
“Great win against a solid Souderton team,” UD coach Paul Choi said. “Kids fought and battled hard.”
Benjamin Dorsey’s 12 kills led the Cardinals at the net. He also had an assist. Cole Brown (12 assists, 2 aces) and David Levin (16 assists, 8 kills, 1 ace, 1 block) shared setting duties. Terrell Turner added seven kills and three aces while Landon Kullmann had six kills. Tyler Pohl had three kills and Ari Weiner had two.
For the Indians, setter Levi Leatherman handed out 20 assists and also had seven digs. Alec Kreiser had eight digs and Kavailya Batt had five digs and four aces.
Upper Dublin (3-1, 3-0 SOL) will host Council Rock North on Monday, and Souderton (2-1) will be on the road at Council Rock North on Saturday for a non-league match (11:30 am).
PENNRIDGE 3, CENTRAL BUCKS WEST 0 (25-16, 25-20, 25-19)
The Rams rolled to their third win in as many matches, earning a sweep of the visiting Bucks.
Setter Riley Kodideck (30 assists, 5 blocks, 4 aces) spread the ball around. Thomas McKinney (11 kills, 8 digs), Jude Rotondo (9 kills, 8 digs, 2 blocks), Tyler Johnson (6 kills, 4 blocks) and Nick Smith (5 kills, 5 blocks) all made important contributions at the net. Alex Derk led the defense with 14 digs while Gavin Tirjan (6 digs) and Ty Porter (4 digs) also contributed.
Pennridge (3-0) will travel to the Bobcat Invitational on Saturday.
