NORTH PENN 3, QUAKERTOWN 2 (21-25, 25-14, 25-22, 17-25, 17-15)
The Knights won a grueling five-set match with the Panthers, edging their hosts in the fifth and deciding set.
The Knights received important contributions from a lengthy list of players. Setter Drew Coles dished out 40 assists to go along with four aces, one kill and 14 digs. On the receiving end of those passes were Michael Wang (10 kills, three blocks, two aces, 13 digs), Zach Jayes (10 kills, two blocks, seven digs, two aces), Evan Rothmann (nine kills, two blocks, 19 digs, one ace), Isaac Lambert (eight kills, four blocks, nine digs) and Kevin Abraham (six kills, six blocks, four digs).
For the Panthers, Logan Spieker turned in a monster performance with 27 kills, three aces, one block and 10 digs. Josh Moyer (11 kills, eight digs) and Justin Flor (11 kills, 16 assists, nine digs) also came up big. Setter Zach Frei had 34 assists, two blocks, four kills, 15 digs). Cameron Cronk added two kills and six digs while Nathan Barkholz had two blocks and 10 digs.
NESHAMINY 3, UPPER DUBLIN 2 (19-25, 20-25, 25-19, 25-8, 15-10)
The Redskins rallied from a two-set deficit to win three straight and edge the Flying Cardinals in a hard fought battle.
“Any time you can come back from an 0-2 hole, it’s awesome,” Neshaminy coach Pat Klingerman said. “Especially against a well-coached team like Upper Dublin. Our guys fought extremely hard and never gave up.”
Steve Wenderlich led the ‘Skins at the net with 15 kills, five blocks, two aces and 11 digs. Setter JD Palmieri had 28 assists, two blocks, two aces and eight digs. Tony Camillo was a presence at the net with nine blocks and six kills, and Jesse Marshall added seven blocks and two kills. Alex Swiderski paced the defense with 18 digs to go along with 11 kills and two aces. Also contributing were Ben McGonagle (five kills, three blocks, three aces), Matt Schwab (two kills, four blocks, 12 digs) and Colin Smith (two aces).
For the Flying Cardinals, Matthew Ross led the attack with 16 kills, two blocks, one ace and a team-high 23 digs. Mario Petushi added 13 kills, three blocks, 21 digs and one ace. Setter Devin O’Brien had 22 assists, 16 digs and one ace. Max Adams added 16 digs. Also contributing were Robert Sarnoski (one ace, eight assists, seven digs), Blake Bayles (one ace, five kills, three blocks) and Alec Madden (four kills).
“Credit goes to Neshaminy who kept fighting to win the match,” UD coach Paul Choi said. “(We’re) still on a learning curve and hope to get out of our funk this week.”
