SOL American Conference
CENTRAL BUCKS SOUTH 3, CENTRAL BUCKS WEST 2 (16-25, 25-14, 22-25, 25-17, 15-9)
The Titans found themselves staring at a 2-1 deficit after three sets in Tuesday’s rivalry match but rallied to win the next two to eke out the win in the hard-fought match.
"They really put us to the test tonight" said South coach Dave Schlosser of the Bucks. "Will Tantum was the glue that held us together. He really did his job. We could not have won without him."
Tantum passed almost 30 serves, and he also had 16 digs, six assists and three aces.
Ben Grove kept his kill streak going with a 23-kill night. He also added six digs, three blocks and five aces. Will Nothum had another solid night with 13 kills, four blocks, four digs and two aces. Josh Conley dished out 32 assists, and he also had 15 digs and three kills in the contest. Sophomore Jake Sciscio had another good showing, giving the Titans a much-needed boost with five kills, nine digs and a block.
"He's really been improving, contributing more each match,” Schlosser said of Sciscio. “The other real difference maker for us has been Zeke Gift. He flies under the radar, but he does all the little things you need done on the court. He's always positive and plays his heart out."
Gift added 11 digs, one ace and was instrumental on serve receive.
For the Bucks, Cooper Tyksinski and Oliver Hu each had eight kills while Dean Nguyen had six. Hayden Morocco added three kills and four blocks, and Christian Woo also had four blocks. Caleb Woodring led the defense with 11 digs, and setter Liam Boyle had 22 assists.
Central Bucks South (5-4, 5-3 SOL) will play Upper Dublin at home Thursday night, and Central Bucks West (4-8, 2-6) will host Quakertown on Thursday.
SOUDERTON 3, QUAKERTOWN 1
The Indians evened their league mark at 5-5 with Tuesday’s win over the Panthers.
Nate Brown (16 kills, 8 digs) and Ian Nice (13 kills, 9 digs, 3 aces) led the way at the net for the Indians. Gio Ievolino added five kills and five blocks, and Alec Kreiser had 14 digs and six aces. Levi Leatherman handed our 41 saves in a busy night.
For the Panthers, Owen Reinford’s eight kills and nine digs led the way. Owen Williams added six kills and 15 digs while Owen Latt had five kills, three blocks and eight digs. Rhauan Ferreira finished with four kills, two aces and six digs. Tyler Moyer added eight digs to go along with one kill and two blocks. Anthony Clark also had eight digs. Alex Alfaro-Diaz (2 kills, 1 ace, 1 dig) and Vadym Mazurak (1 ace, 1 dig) also contributed.
Souderton (5-6, 4-4 SOL) will travel to Central Bucks East on Thursday, and Quakertown (0-10, 0-8) will be on the road at Central Bucks West on Thursday.
PENNRIDGE 3, UPPER DUBLIN 0 (25-23, 25-22, 26-24)|
The Rams solidified their hold on the top spot of the SOL American with their sweep of the visiting Cardinals. After Tuesday’s win, they now hold a three-game lead over their closest competitor in the loss column.
Evan Jalosinski handed out 36 assists and had four digs. Jude Rotondo (10 kills, 2 aces), Bryce Ammon (10 kills) and Thomas McKinney (9 kills, 6 digs) led a balanced attack at the net. Logan Jalosinski added five kills and five aces while Gavin Stayer and Chris Cullen each had two kills. Ty Porter had six digs.
For the Flying Cardinals, junior Gabe Copley led the way with 10 kills, two digs and three blocks. Cory Pendleton added seven kills, two digs and two blocks. Setter Cole Brown had 20 assists to go along with nine digs and one ace. Landon Kullmann added two kills, three aces and two digs while Terrell Turner had four kills, and Ari Weinter added four digs.
Pennridge (8-1, 8-0 SOL) will host North Penn on Thursday, and Upper Dublin (7-3, 6-3) will be on the road at Central Bucks South on Thursday.
CENTRAL BUCKS EAST 3, NORTH PENN 0
The Patriots received contributions up and down their lineup in Tuesday’s sweep of the Knights.
Aiden Leichter led the defense with 17 digs to go along with one ace and two assists. Matt LaBouliere led the Patriots at the net with 14 kills. He also had 10 assists, one ace, two blocks and eight digs. Reid Miller added five aces, two blocks, six digs and six kills, and AJ (Al) Helveston contributed six kills, seven digs and one ace. Liam Donnelly added four kills and three blocks. Setter Rhys Marshall handed out 22 assists and also contributed three aces and six digs.
Also contributing for the Patriots were Steve DiRugeris (4 digs), Shane Sutton (2 blocks, 1 kill), Sean Figus (2 digs), Pat Haurin (2 kills, 1 dig), Ethan Scott (1 kill, 1 ace) and Brady Colbert (1 kill, 2 digs).
Central Bucks East (6-4, 6-3 SOL) will host Souderton on Thursday, and North Penn (3-6, 2-6) will travel to Pennridge on Thursday.
SOL National Conference
PENNSBURY 3, NESHAMINY 1 (25-19, 25-16, 22-25, 25-20)
The Falcons continue to hold a share of the top spot in the SOL National Conference with their four-set win over the Redskins.
For the Redskins, setter El-Mansur Sagalive had 27 assists to go along with two kills, two digs and one block. John Nice was a force at the net with 17 kills, three digs and one block. Also contributing were (Brandon Sloskey (1 aces, 4 kills, 1 dig), Toby Kovaschetz (2 digs, 1 assist), Beknazar Balyshbekov (3 kills, 2 digs), Chase Nuttall (2 kills), Aiden Hastings (4 aces, 3 kills, 1 dig, 1 assist) and Ruhan Jaikaria (6 digs).
"Pennsbury is a very well-coached team that put us under a lot of pressure from the service line tonight,” Neshaminy coach Pat Klingerman. “We need to do a better job at winning the first contact on the ball and becoming more resilient as a team. Coming together and bonding as a unit is something we will be working on moving forward."
Pennsbury (9-1, 7-1) will travel to Abington on Thursday, and Neshaminy (6-5, 4-4) will host Council Rock North next Tuesday.
COUNCIL ROCK NORTH 3, ABINGTON 2
The Indians won a grueling five-set match over the visiting Ghosts on Tuesday.
For the Ghosts, Zach Miller dominated the game from the outside with a whopping 29 kills over five sets (.304 average) and sixteen digs. He once again led the offense for the Ghosts. Brendan Dougherty had 41 assists, as well as two blocks. Danyel Mayo contributed offensively from the middle with five kills (.456 average), and Isaac Burstyn added three kills from the middle. Kai Savadove had two kills and two blocks on the right side, and Jack Scharnikow had four kills and a block on the outside. Defensively, Thomas O'Malley contributed eight digs and Nikolay Grinyuk led defensively with nineteen digs over the five sets.
“We definitely beat ourselves in this match with unforced errors and serving,” Abington coach Maddy Robinson said. “Our offense really stepped up today and we need to work on developing the rest of our game.”
Council Rock North (4-6, 3-4 SOL) will host Council Rock South on Thursday, and Abington (3-8, 3-6) will host Pennsbury on Thursday.
