Bensalem and Pennridge had strong showings in tournament action on Saturday.
BENSALEM CAPTURES TITLE AT HAVERFORD KICKOFF CLASSIC
Bensalem won the title at the Haverford Kickoff Classic Saturday.
After compiling an 8-1 record in pool play and earning the second seed, the Owls defeated La Salle 2-1 in the semifinals, rebounding to win two straight after dropping the first set.
In the championship match, Bensalem defeated Avon Grove 2-0, rallying from an 11-4 deficit in the first set to earn the win.
The Owls, according to coach Tim Linehan, won behind a scrappy team effort. Running the offense the entire day was setter Ronak Patel, who distributed the ball to all of his hitters.
Outside hitters Joey Conley and Bhav Patel – both named to the all-tournament team – excelled both offensively and defensively. Middle hitters Austin Sherel and Philip Bui, according to Linehan, had timely kills, and Shekib Ghafary had a strong day swinging from the right side.
The Owls were led defensively by libero Hari Patel and defensive specialist Ronak Shah.
