ABINGTON 3, BENSALEM 2 (32-30, 24-26, 27-29, 25-18, 15-9)

The Ghosts won a grueling five-set marathon match over the visiting Owls, rallying from a 2-1 deficit to win the final two sets.

“Great effort was given by both teams,” Abington coach Jason Barshinger said. “I am proud of the intensity and focus that we found late during the fourth and fifth sets tonight.”
Zach Miller (18 kills, 22 digs, 3.5 blocks) and Xavier Voit (15 kills, 1 ace, 3 digs, 3 blocks) both had huge nights for the Ghosts. Setter Colin Mulvihill had a busy night, handing out 41 assists to go along with one kill, one ace, six digs and one block.  Jake Kosik led the Ghosts defense with 26 digs and also had two assists and one ace.
Ben Holler added eight kills, one assist, three aces and 11 digs. Myles Winegrad contributed eight kills, 10 digs and 3.5 blocks while Michael Lyou had three kills.

For the Owls, Ricky Patel had 27 assists and Ohm Patel had 19 assists.  Jeremy Rodriguez had a career high 24 kills. Jack Wineburg (10 kills), Bruce Bell (6 kills), Shiv Parekh (5 kills) and Parth Patel (5 kills 2 blocks) all made plays at the net.  Arjun Patel led the defense with 22 digs.

Abington (6-4, 2-4 SOL) will host Souderton on Monday, and Bensalem (5-5, 2-5) will travel to Haverford on Saturday for a non-league match.

 

Non-league

NESHAMINY 3, UPPER DUBLIN 1 (25-18, 22-25, 25-23, 25-18)

In a marquee non-league match pitting two of the SOL’s top squads, it was the visiting Redskins notching the hard-fought win.

“UD is always a well-coached team and never gives you any free points,” Neshaminy coach Pat Klingerman said. “They served tough and passed well throughout the match, which put us under a lot of pressure all night. A solid team victory with a plethora of areas to improve on heading into another busy week next week."

Josh Clendening (12 kills, 6 digs, 2 aces, 3 blocks), Kieran Edwards (9 kills, 1 block, 1 assist), Josh Hamilton (9 kills, 4 aces, 4 digs) and Dan Berzin (6 kills, 3 aces, 2 digs, 1 assist) led the Redskins at the net. Setter Josh Adler was credited with 34 assists to go along with four digs, two kills and one block. Michael Sooby led the defense with 12 digs to go along with four assists and two aces. Ben Clendening also made his presence felt at the net with three kills and four blocks. Brandon Sloskey added two aces and one dig.

For the Flying Cardinals, Benjamin Dorsey had a big night, contributing 18 kills, 13 digs, one assist and one block. Landon Kullmann also was a force all over the court, finishing with 12 kills, 21 digs and three aces. Setter David Levin had 32 assists, four kills, nine digs and one ace. Terrell Turner added four kills, five digs, two aces and one block. Dominick Plaku added five digs.

“Neshaminy is a very well-rounded team and made it very tough at the net,” UD coach Paul Choi said. “Props to UD for battling throughout the match and will look to learn from this experience moving forward.”

Neshaminy (9-0, 5-0 SOL) will travel to Council Rock South on Monday, and Upper Dublin (9-3, 8-0) will host Souderton on Thursday.

 

CENTRAL BUCKS SOUTH 3, CHELTENHAM 0 (25-12, 25-5, 25-15).

The Titans broke through and got their first win of the season against the Panthers.

“This was a great team win for the boys with everyone getting a chance to contribute,” South coach Matt Ehlers said. “Cheltenham continued to compete throughout the match, and I wish them the best of luck with the rest of their season.”

Josh Conley led the Titans’ service game with 10 aces.  He also contributed four kills, six assists, and two digs.  Sam Stolber also had a productive match with 10 points on serve, three kills, two blocks, four digs and an assist. Chris Kline led the blocking with five total blocks.  Evan LaHoda and Will Tantum led defensively with five digs each.  Joe Sciscio led the offense with six kills and Sam Snyder led the setting with eight assists.

Central Bucks South (1-11, 0-8 SOL) will travel to La Salle for a non-league match on Monday, and Cheltenham (0-6, 0-5) will travel to Council Rock North on Tuesday.

 

CENTRAL BUCKS EAST 3, LOWER MERION 2

The Patriots won a hard-fought five-set match in non-league action.

The Patriots’ Matt LaBouliere had a stellar match, piling up 17 kills while hitting at a .524 clip. He also picked up 21 assists, 25 digs, and two blocks. Ryan Coxey managed 26 assists and two aces while Aiden Leichter picked up 35 digs. Steve DiRugeris added 21 digs and Josh Lyzinski (11 kills, 2 blocks), Reid Miller (11 kills, 3 digs), and Pat Haurin (8 kills, 3 digs) all were strong at the net. Additional players who had key roles included Andrew Perillo (4 kills), and Ethan Scott (3 kills, 10 digs).

Central Bucks East (8-4, 6-3 SOL) will travel to Souderton on Tuesday.

 

NORTH PENN 3, LANSDALE CATHOLIC 2 (25-19, 19-25, 25-21, 21-25, 15-12)

The Knights won a thriller, defeating their neighboring rival in five sets.

Senior Aaron Foulke led the charge with 13 kills and four blocks while senior captain Brian Landes led the Knights with 76 assists, six kills and 11 aces. Juniors Josh Kim and Cullen McCann contributed in the efforts with Kim handing out 19 assists and McCann contributing six kills.

North Penn (5-7, 3-5 SOL) will host Central Bucks West on Tuesday.

 

WHITEHALL 3, QUAKERTOWN 0

The Panthers fell to a strong Whitehall squad in a non-league match.

Micah Reinford (9 kills, 10 digs, 1 block), Andrew Sturgess (5 kills, 1 block, 1 dig) and Zander Marks (5 kills, 4 digs, 1 block) led the Panthers at the net. Setter Cody Steiert had 17 assists, five digs and one ace. Also contributing were Kurt Glaeser (5 digs), Isaac Moises (2 kills, 1 block) and Phil Richwine (1 kill, 1 dig).

 

DOCK MENNONITE ACADEMY 3, SOUDERTON 0

The Indians fell in three sets to their neighboring rival.

Andrew Brown (14 kills) and Nate Brown (11 kills) had big nights at the net for the Indians.

Souderton (5-6, 5-3 SOL) will travel to Abington on Monday.
