SOL Boys' Volleyball Wrap (4-7-17)

Continental Conference

QUAKERTOWN 3, NORTH PENN 1 (25-21, 25-21,21-25, 25-11)
The Panthers evened their SOL mark at 2-2 (3-3 overall) with Friday’s win over the Knights.
Josh Moyer (10 kills, eight digs, one block), Graham Wilson (nine kills, three blocks, four digs) and Justin Flor (eight kills, four digs, one block) all delivered big performances at the net for the Panthers. Ben Ocamb added four kills and two digs, and Kevin Steich had two kills, two blocks and one dig. Zac Mahler led the defense with 19 digs to go along with three aces. Setter Drew Stout had 26 assists and two aces. Also contributing were Ben Wackerman (two digs, one ace) and Zach Frei (one block, one assist).
For the Knights, Alex Stoler (eight kills, two blocks), Kishan Davara (seven kills, three bocks) and Isaac Lambers (seven kills, three aces, 10 digs) led the way.

CENTRAL BUCKS WEST 3, CENTRAL BUCKS EAST 2
The Central Bucks West/Central Bucks East matches are always marathon matches, and this one didn't disappoint.  The two teams went back and forth all night with West pulling it out in the fifth set with a 17-15 win.
Danny Klapper turned in a stellar performance for the Bucks with 24 kills and 11 digs. Ryan Alu added eight kills, two aces and nine digs. Austin Cervasio had four kills and four blocks. Setter Adam Klapper had 46 assists.
For the Patriots, Mason Miller dished out 51 assists in a well-balanced attack.  Leading the Patriots was Dylan Colbert (22 kills, three aces), Carter Haban (11 kills, two aces), Christian Wolf (11 kills) and Andrew Bennett (five kills).  Libero Liam Creedon had 11 of the 31 digs for the Patriots.  

CENTRAL BUCKS SOUTH 3, CHELTENHAM 0 (25-7, 25-15, 25-23)
The Titans received contributions up and down their lineup in a sweep of the visiting Panthers.
“I was proud of the way the boys rebounded from a tough match on Wednesday to get back into the win column,” coach Matt Ehlers said. “Fortunately we were able to get some different players an opportunity to get playing time, and I credit Cheltenham for continuing to fight and push us throughout the match.”
Team leaders included setter Mark Macios (four aces, three kills, seven blocks, eight assists, three digs), setter Jake Monson (two kills, two blocks, six assists, one dig) and middle Joe Karn (six aces, two blocks, one kill, one dig). Sophomore Jon Zonshein recorded his first varsity kill and added five digs. First-year juniors Kevin Cho and Dylan Moser received their first opportunity to play at the varsity level.

National Conference

WILLIAM TENNENT 3, COUNCIL ROCK SOUTH 2 (24-26, 25-22, 25-23, 20-25, 16-14)
The Panthers eked out a win in a marathon match, edging the visiting Golden Hawks 16-14 in the winner-take-all fifth set.
Brendan Carter filled a stat sheet for the Panthers, finishing with 18 kills to go along with 14 digs, three blocks and two aces. Joe Ferrell also had double-digit kills, contributing 10 to go along with four aces and three blocks. Andrey Zhurbich added two aces, four kills and 11 digs. Matt Berndlmaier had 12 digs and one block. Setter Ethan Sklut handed out 34 assists. Brandon Layer led the defense with 21 digs. Colin Rea had five kills and two blocks.
For the Golden Hawks, TJ Rodman led the defense with 37 digs and two aces. Setter Dane Paulson had 35 assists, 20 digs, five aces, two blocks and one kills in a strong outing. Shan Slivinski (18 kills, 15 digs) and Andrew Richards (17 kills, 15 digs) once again came up big both at the net and defensively. Jack Geiger added four kills, two blocks and one ace while Sean Armstrong had 27 digs.

NESHAMINY 3, ABINGTON 0 (25-16, 25-21, 25-7)
The Redskins used a balanced effort to earn a sweep of the Ghosts.
Shaun Kelly (15 kills, three digs, two blocks) and Tommy Edwards (10 kills, one dig, one ace, three blocks) led the ‘Skins at the net. Leading the defense were Steve Reich (eight digs, one kill, two aces) and Steve Wenderlich (nine digs, one ace). Setter Miguel Montalvo had 32 assists, two kills, two aces and two blocks. Also contributing to the win were Anthony Verrecchio (four kills, four aces), Tim Stressman (one kill, two blocks), Brian McGonagle (five kills, two aces, four blocks), Alex Swiderski (one dig), Eric Rotteveel (one kill) and Tony Camillo (one kill, one block).

Non-league
HEMPFIELD 3, PENNRIDGE 0 (25-18, 25-9, 33-31)
The Rams hosted perennial state powerhouse Hempfield, and although they were swept, they didn’t go down without a battle, extending the third set to 33 points.
Cross Edwards (nine kills, eight digs) and Josiah Friesen (nine kills, 11 digs, two aces) led the Rams. Also contributing at the net were Kevin Jones (six kills), Zach Deweiler (four blocks) and Mike Molettiere (four kills).
Setter Corey Quaste had 27 assists. Ethan Lionetti added eight digs while James Sandt had six to go along with two aces.
Pennridge (2-3) will host Central Bucks South on Monday.

Thursday, April 6
SOUDERTON 3, PENNRIDGE 1 (25-23, 23-25, 25-23, 25-23)
In a hotly-contested match, the neighboring rivals were separated by just two points in all four sets – all four decided by identical 25-23 scores.
“It was a competitive match,” Souderton coach Dave Stastny said. “Both teams played with good effort and hustle.
“We were able to be consistent when it counted and won the match. This was our best team effort throughout the whole match. Everyone stepped up. I’m proud of the way the team stayed positive with each other.”
Aaron Moyer led the Indians’ defense with 11 digs. Mike Pagan had a team-high eight kills and three blocks. Setter Luke Pagan had 20 assists and seven digs. Ben Campman (five kills, 10 digs), Cam Hart (seven kills) and JT Karaban (three blocks) also contributed.
For the Rams, setter Corey Quaste had 46 assists. Cross Edwards had a monster game at the net, finishing with 27 kills to go along with 13 digs. Kevin Jones had seven kills, and Zach Deweiler had six blocks. Ethan Lionetti led the defense with 20 digs.

COUNCIL ROCK NORTH 3, WILLIAM TENNENT 0 (25-13, 25-15, 26-24)
The Indians used a balance attack in their sweep of the Panthers on Thursday.
Setter Nick Baniewicz had 19 assists, two aces, two kills and one dig. Jack Gunshenan (eight kills, three digs) and Harry Wyatt (six kills, three aces, three digs, one block) led the Indians at the net. Alex Borman’s seven digs led the defense. Also contributing were Justin Walton (two kills, one dig, one assist), Keven D’Arcy (two kills, one dig), Brady Haggerty (two kills) and Ed Mancinelli (two digs).
Council Rock North (4-1, 2-1 SOL) will travel to Abington on Monday.
