SOL National Conference

 

NESHAMINY 3, PENNSBURY 0 (25-19, 25-15, 25-13)

The Redskins remained perfect, notching their sixth win in as many matches with a sweep over archrival Pennsbury.

Setter Josh Adler had 20 assists, one dig and one block. Contributing to a balanced attack were Dan Berzin (5 kills, 1 ace, 1 dig, 2 blocks), Josh Hamilton (5 kills, 6 digs, 1 assist), Josh Clendening (4 kills, 4 digs, 1 block), Ben Clendening (3 kills, 3 blocks), Kieran Edwards (2 kills, 2 blocks), Brandon Sloskey (1 kills, 1 block, 1 ace, 2 digs) and John Nice (1 kill). Michael Sooby led the defense with eight digs and three aces.

Neshaminy (6-0, 4-0 SOL) will host Council Rock South on Friday, and Pennsbury (3-3) will host Council Rock North on Monday.

 

COUNCIL ROCK NORTH 3, BENSALEM 0 (25-18, 25-18, 25-22)

The Indians bounced back from their first loss of the season to earn a sweep of the visiting Owls.

Setter Dylan VanSchaick had 22 assists and seven digs. Brady Klein led a balanced attack with eight kills to go along with one block, three aces and 10 digs. Nick Alleborn had six kills and one block, Keertan Palayam added five kills, and Anthony DePalo had four kills and one ace. Nick Cirincione’s 14 digs led the Indians’ defense.

 The Owls were led by Jack Wineburg’s 14 kills.  Shiv Parekh (5 kills 3 aces 2 blocks), Parth Patel (4 kills 4 blocks) and Bruce Bell (2 kills 3 blocks) also made plays at the net for Bensalem.  Ricky Patel and Ohm Patel each had 12 assists.

Council Rock North (6-1 4-1 SOL) will travel to Dock Mennonite Academy on Saturday. Bensalem (3-3, 2-3) will host Academy of Palumbo in a non-league match on Monday.

 

Wednesday, April 6

NESHAMINY 3, ABINGTON 0 (25-16, 25-21, 25-19)

Kieran Edwards led a dangerous attack with 12 kills in Neshaminy’s sweep of Abington Wednesday.

Edwards was hardly a one-man show. Also contributing at the net were Josh Hamilton (8 kills, 4 aces, 4 digs), Josh Clendening (6 kills, 5 digs, 3 blocks), Dan Berzin (5 kills, 5 aces, 1 dig, 1 block, 1 assist), Ben Clendening (4 kills, 2 digs, 1 assist) and John Nice (1 kill). Setter Josh Adler was credited with 32 assists, one kill and three digs. Michael Sooby had seven digs and two assists), and Brandon Sloskey had two digs.

For the Ghosts, setter Colin Mulvihill had 25 assists, one kill, one ace and four digs. He distributed the ball to Xavier Voit (9 kills, 1 ace, 1 blocks), Zach Miller (6 kills, 6 digs), Ben Holler (4 kills, 1 ace, 10 digs, 1 block), Mylee Winegrad (3 kills, 7 digs), Joe Clark (a career best 3 kills) and Mike Lyou (1 kills). Jake Kosik led the defense with 15 digs to go along with one kill and one assist.
“I thought Neshaminy did a nice job of spreading their offense and putting pressure on us from the service line,” Abington coach Jason Barshinger said. “We played from behind in two sets after slow starts, but I was pleased to see the fight in us. I never felt like we let up or lost hope, including in the third set. We will work to make the adjustments to get us to where we need to be.” 

Abington 3-3, 1-3 SOL) will be on the road at William Tennent on Friday.

 

SOL American Conference

 

UPPER DUBLIN 3, PENNRIDGE 1 (25-22, 25-19, 19-25, 25-23)

In a battle of the conference’s lone unbeaten squads, it was the Flying Cardinals keeping their perfect record intact with a hard fought win.

“It was a great match against an always tough Pennridge team,” UD coach Paul Choi said.

Benjamin Dorsey turned in a monster performance, leading both the offense and defense with 20 kills and 19 digs to go along with one ace. Setter David Levin had 25 assists, 16 digs, 3 aces, 1 kill and two blocks in a standout effort. Terrell Turner added six kills, two aces, five digs and one block while Landon Kullmann had five kills, one ace and 13 digs. Dominick Plaku had eight digs and two assists.

For the Rams, setter Riley Kodidek had a big game, contributing 32 assists, 10 digs, four kills and four blocks. Jude Rotondo (11 kills, 8 digs), Tyler Johnson (10 kills, 4 blocks), Thomas McKinney (10 kills, 14 digs) and Nick Smith (6 kills, 3 blocks) all contributed to a balanced attack. Alex Derk’s 15 digs led the defense.

Upper Dublin (5-2, 5-0 SOL) will host La Salle in a non-league match on Friday at 5 p.m. Pennridge (4-1) will travel to Central York HS on Saturday for the Kohler Classic Tournament.

 

QUAKERTOWN 3, SOUDERTON 0 (25-21, 25-23, 25-19)

The Panthers – sparked by the strong play of Zander Marks and Micah Reinford at the net –earned a sweep of the visiting Indians.

Marks led the Panthers with 15 kills, four blocks, one ace, two assists and six digs. Reinford added 11 kills, two aces and 12 digs. Setter Cody Steiert spread the ball around with 31 assists to go along with five kills and one block. Contributing to a strong defensive effort were Kurt Glaeser, Anthony Clark and Logan Parker with eight digs each. Glaeser also had one ace. Phil Richwine (3 kills, 1 assist, 2 digs) and Andrew Sturgess (3 kills, 3 blocks) also made important contributions.

For the Indians, Nate Brown led the attack with 16 kills.

Quakertown (2-3 SOL) will travel to Central Bucks West on Tuesday, and Souderton (2-4, 2-3) will be on the road at Central Bucks South on Tuesday.

 

CENTRAL BUCKS EAST 3, CENTRAL BUCKS WEST 1

In what is always an intense rivalry match, the Patriots notched the four-set win.

The Patriots were led by Matt LaBouliere (10 kills, 11 assists, 13 digs, and 2.5 blocks), Josh Lyzinski (10 kills, 3 blocks, 2 aces, 1 dig), and Reid Miller (7 kills, 2 aces, 1 block, .455 hitting %). Directing the balanced attack was Ryan Coxey who had 20 assists and 3 digs. Andrew Perillo (4 kills, 3 blocks), Pat Haurin (2 kills, .667 hitting %), Ethan Scott 2 kills, 2 aces, 13 digs), and Connor Callaghan all had a productive all-around match. Defensive stars for East were Aiden Leichter (19 digs, 1 ace), and Steve DiRugeris with seven digs.

Central Bucks East (5-1 SOL, 6-2) will travel to Upper Dublin on Tuesday, and Central Bucks West (1-6, 1-5) will host Quakertown on Tuesday.

 

NORTH PENN 3, CENTRAL BUCKS SOUTH 0 (25-17, 25-21, 25-23)

The Knights notched a sweep of the visiting Titans.

Senior setter Brian Landes led North Penn with 33 assists, five digs and three aces. Senior Vedant Patel contributed six kills. Senior Rayhan Islam and junior Ryan Huang led the defense with nine digs each.

For the Titans, Ben Grove led the offense (6 kills, 1 block and 5 digs). Setter Josh Conley spread the ball around with 18 assists to go along with three kills, two blocks and six digs. Will Tantum led the defense (11 digs, 2 aces and 1 kill). Senior Sam Stolber moved to outside hitter for this match and performed well (4 kills, 1 ace, 1 assist and 3 digs).

“Playing from behind and too many mistakes on our side of the net make it very difficult to win,” CB South coach Matt Ehlers said.

North Penn (2-3 SOL, 3-4) will travel to Haverford for a non-league match on Friday. Central Bucks South (0-6, 0-5) will be on the road at Abington on Monday.
