SOL Boys' Volleyball Wrap (4-9/10-13)

Check out Tuesday and Wednesday’s SOL boys volleyball results.

PENNRIDGE 3, SOUDERTON 0 (25-17, 25-10, 25-22)
The names and faces may have changed, but the results stay pretty much the same.
The Rams lost five all-league players from last year’s district championship squad to graduation, but so far they haven’t missed a beat. In Tuesday night’s rematch of last year’s district title game, the Rams disposed of the district runner-up Indians in three straight games. It was, according to coach Dave Child’s, the Rams best performance of the season.
“We came to play,” Childs said. “Especially the way we started. We didn’t finish very strong, but we started strong.”
The Rams, who had just five hitting errors in the match, received important contributions from Mike Bollinger (nine kills, four blocks), Henry Savage (six kills, eight digs, three aces), Devon Rice (six kills, eight digs, three aces), Evan Jacoby (six kills, 10 digs, three aces, three blocks), Christian Lizana (17 digs, four aces), Steve Braun (three aces) and Matt Ziegler (27 assists).
Ziegler, after filling the role of defensive specialist in the past, replaced all-state setter Austin McVaugh.
“He just started setting this year,” Childs said. “He’s done a great job. It’s not the easiest offense to run. I like to run things fast, and it puts more pressure on him and less on the hitters.
“It’s been a work in progress, but he’s really coming along. He set really well on Saturday (at the Bobcat Invitational), and since then, he’s set really well for us.”
Ziegler was told near the end of last season that he would be replacing the Rams’ all-state setter.
“Dave came to me and said, ‘Are you up to setting?’” Ziegler said. “I said, ‘Sure, let’s try it out.’ We tried it out, worked a lot this summer, offseason and club. We just worked really hard.”
The toughest part, according to Ziegler, is the timing.
“It’s different for every hitter,” he said. “We try to get the offense quick sometimes and sometimes slow it down, so it’s just the consistency.”
Ziegler and the Rams’ hitters were working on all cylinders in Wednesday’s win, and until the third set, the night pretty much belonged to the Rams.
“They’re a good team,” Ziegler said. “We served very well. They made a late run, but our serving was really good. We played good defense, and we sided out quick.”
Souderton was led by Micah Godshall (eight kills, two aces), Tim Jones (five kills, seven digs), Ryan Davison (four kills, four blocks) and Levi Schneck (11 digs).
The Rams are 6-0 in league play while the Indians fell to 4-2 (4-3 overall).

The Bucks were led by Mike Fehrs (20 kills, three aces, 10 digs), Christian Rupert (20 kills), Joel Klapper (eight kills, 15 digs) and Matt Hennigan (47 assists, 15 digs).
