NORTH PENN 3, QUAKERTOWN 2 (25-20, 22-25, 25-10, 24-26, 15-12)
The visiting Knights won the first game, the Panthers won the second. That trend continued through the five sets with the Knights eking out the win in the fifth set.
Saavan Boghara (16 kills, five blocks, one dig), Kishan Davara (13 kills, four blocks, five digs), Hayden Rhodes (12 kills, three blocks, 10, digs) and Isaac Lambert (nine kills, one ace, five digs) all had big games at the net. Setter Ryan Ko handed out 37 assists and also had 16 digs and three blocks. Manan Patel led the defense with 32 digs and one ace.
For the Panthers, Justin Flor (10 kills, two blocks, nine digs), Graham Wilson (nine kills, seven blocks), Josh Moyer (seven kills, nine digs) and Zach Frei (five) led the way at the net. Zac Mahler’s 19 digs led the defense. Logan Spieker added eight digs while Ben Wackerman had four. Setter Drew Stout had 25 assists and eight digs.
NESHAMINY 3, ABINGTON 0 (25-12, 25-15, 25-13)
The Redskins received contributions from their entire lineup in Monday’s sweep of the Ghosts.
“It was a great team win,” coach Pat Klingerman said. “A true bounce back game that will hopefully get us back on track. We had great team energy and fought hard.”
Shaun Kelly led the Redskins at the net with 12 kills and four digs. Tommy Edwards added seven kills, two digs and four blocks. Anthony Verrecchio had three kills and four aces, and Tim Stressman had four kills and one block. Setter Miguel Montalvo had 25 assists, one ace and one kill. Steve Wenderlich led the defense with nine digs and three aces. Steve Reich had five digs. Also contributing were Jesse Marshall (one block), Eric Rotteveel (two digs) and Markus Mueller (one block).
For the Ghosts, Daniel Gonzalez had eight kills and four digs while Cole Santora had two kills and four digs. TJ Dougherty led the defense with seven digs, and setter Roni Fishbein had 11 assists and six digs.
COUNCIL ROCK NORTH 3, BENSALEM 0 (25-18, 25-20, 25-21)
Rock North setter Nick Baniewicz dished out 34 assists and also had three kills, three digs, one ace and .5 blocks in a strong all-around outing for the Indians, who were at the top of the first District One 3A power rankings. Jack Gunshenan led the attack with 12 kills and two digs. Also contributing at the net were Harry Wyatt (six kills, six digs, two aces, one block), Keven D’Arcy (five kills, two digs, .5 blocks), Sean Helmlinger (three kills, four blocks, one dig), Will Hewitt (five kills), Justin Walton (three kills, three digs) and Brady Haggerty (two kills). Alex Borman led the defense with 12 digs and two assists. Eddie Mancinelli had four digs, one ace and one assist, and Grant Shieh had three digs.
For the Owls, Philip Bui led the attack with nine kills while Joey Conley had six kills and one ace. Setter Ronak Shah had 16 assists and two kills.
PENNRIDGE 3, SOUDERTON 0 (25-17, 26-24, 37-35)
After winning the first set with relative ease, the Rams were extended to the limit in the second and third sets, including a marathon 37-35 third set.
Ben Chinici (21 kills, 13 digs, five aces) and Cross Edwards (18 kills, 12 digs, three aces) provided a formidable one-two punch at the net. Josiah Friesen added three kills, eight digs and four blocks while Zach Detweiler had two kills and three blocks. Kevin Jones added two kills. Corey Quaste had 43 assists. Danny Rutter led the defense with 14 digs.
CENTRAL BUCKS WEST 3, CENTRAL BUCKS EAST 0 (25-23, 25-22, 25-23)
Not a whole lot separated the neighboring rivals, but it was the Bucks earning the hard fought sweep.
Daniel Klapper led the Bucks with 17 kills. Cole Kaminski led the defense with 11 digs, and setter Adam Klapper had 22 assists.
CENTRAL BUCKS SOUTH 3, CHELTENHAM 1 (25-15, 25-19, 20-25, 25-17)
The Titans travelled to Cheltenham and won in four sets.
“With a couple starters out of the lineup, we were able to get some additional players some extended playing time, including freshman Andrew Rubas who got his first kill,” coach Matt Ehlers said.
Setter Mark Macios spread the ball around and had 28 assists to eight different hitters. Middle Justin Koren led the offense with 12 kills while Tim White led the defense with 12 digs. Joe Karn led the team with five aces.
COUNCIL ROCK SOUTH 3, WILLIAM TENNENT 2
Brendan Carter (24 kills) and Joe Ferrell (13 kills) both had big nights at the net for the Panthers. Matt Berndlmaier added four kills and Charlie Green had three kills.
PENNSBURY 3, LIBERTY 0
The Falcons, seeded second behind CR North in the district power rankings, rolled to a sweep of Liberty in a non-league contest.
Louie Bavas was led the Falcons at the net, collecting 14 kills (.524), four digs and one block. Justin Sadley (seven kills, .500, two digs, one block), Sean Sweeney (seven kills, .667, two aces, one dig, one block), Marshall Nixon (three kills, .400, one block) and Adam Hludzinski (two kills, two blocks) also were effective at the net. Setter Andy Delworth had 25 assists, five digs and one bock. Charlie Bluestein had six digs and two assists. Also contributing were Kyle Faulcon (one kill), Dylan Shugar (one dig), Luke Bucksar (one kill) and Brett Garretson (two aces, two digs).
