SOL National Conference
COUNCIL ROCK NORTH 3, NESHAMINY 1
The Indians – who have just one conference loss - knocked off the Redskins for the second time this season.
Justin Burns turned in a stellar performance for the Indians, finishing with 18 kills, 19 digs and one block. Riley Campbell added seven kills, two blocks and three digs. Brady Klein paced the defense with 20 digs to go along with three aces, three kills and one block, and Martin Nguyen added 11 digs and three aces. Abe Eldo had nine digs and one assist. Geoff Sandhanamudi (16 assists, one ace, 15 digs) and Dylan Vanschaick (23 assists, eight digs) split setting duties. Anthony Depalo (two kills, three blocks, four digs) and Luke Sill (three kills) also contributed.
For the Redskins, Josh Clendening (11 kills, two digs, one block) and Kieran Edwards (10 kills, one dig, four blocks) led the attack. Paul Allen (5 kills, 1 ace, 5 digs), Ben Clendening (5 kills, 4 blocks) and Josh Hamilton (2 kills, 4 digs, 1 block) also contributed at the net. Setter Nick Storz had 31 assists, four kills, one ace and 14 digs. Jesse Kovaschetz led the defense with 16 digs to go along with three assists and one ace. Also contributing were Stephen Fario (six digs), Colin Smith (one kill, one dig) and Aaron Benjamin (one ace).
“Tough loss against a very solid CR North team,” Neshaminy coach Pat Klingerman said. “They are very well coached and minimized their errors. We made too many mistakes on the service line and untimely hitting errors. This is a great learning experience that we will use heading into playoffs.”
WILLIAM TENNENT 3, BENSALEM 2
The Panthers notched a hard fought five-set win over the Owls.
For the Panthers, Mike Carr led the way at the net with 15 kills, three blocks and one ace. Jay Layer contributed 11 kills, 14 digs and one block, Jack Steilen added eight kills, two blocks and four aces while Kirby Mooney had five kills and four blocks. Connor Fleming added three kills and one block. Defensively, Cody Keeny had 32 digs and three aces, and Trey Mannon had 10 digs. Setter Paul Nedeoglo added 15 digs, five blocks and 38 assists.
ABINGTON 3, COUNCIL ROCK SOUTH 0
The Ghosts celebrated Senior Night with a sweep of the visiting Golden Hawks.
Sam Miller had 13 kills, four aces and four digs. Leo Presta had 19 assists, 11 digs and one block. Sebastian Skenderi had three kills and two blocks. Bryce Lexow had four kills, three digs and one block. Sean Dougherty had two kills, two assists, four aces and 20 digs. Jackson Raezor had a kill, Dylan Plantarich had two digs and Gannon McGinley added 10 more digs.
SOL American Conference
PENNRIDGE 3, CENTRAL BUCKS EAST 1
The Rams defeated the Patriots in their final regular season match and finished second only to Upper Dublin in the conference standings.
Ryan Benscoter was once again all but unstoppable, delivering 24 kills to go along with nine aces and seven digs. Tyler Johnson added four kills and four blocks, and Thomas McKinney contributed eight kills. Skyler Ammon had five kills and 10 digs, and Nick Smith added three blocks. Setter Riley Kodidek had 34 assists, four kills and four blocks. Dan Detweiler’s 11 digs led the Rams’ defense.
East was led offensively by Matt LaBouliere, who had five kills, one ace, and eight digs. Defensively, Aiden Leichter picked up nine digs to lead the way. Trevor Seestedt had a nice night, ending with five kills and a dig. Josh Lyzinski finished with three kills and three blocks, while Reid Miller was solid across the board, contributing three kills, an ace, a block and four digs. Setter Liam Ostrander finished with 17 assists, two blocks, and five digs while directing the Patriots offense. AJ Helveston finished with three digs and an ace while Jarred Needles managed a dig and Gabe Casiello added three digs.
UPPER DUBLIN 3, CENTRAL BUCKS SOUTH 0
The Cardinals wrapped up their conference season with a sweep of the Titans.
For the Titans, Dylan Hillegass had his first opportunity to play varsity and recorded two kills and a block. Will Tantum led the defense with nine digs, and Robert Coleman led the offense with four kills.
SOUDERTON 3, CENTRAL BUCKS WEST 0 (25-21, 25-19, 25-22)
The visiting Indians earned a sweep of the Bucks, who drew high praise from coach Luke Pinto.
“It was a great end of league play performance,” the Indians’ coach said. “CB West has a talented libero who played incredible defense tonight. We played as a team and that is a great sign going into the playoffs.”
Aidan Wunderly (12 kills, three blocks), Andrew Brown (11 kills) and Luke Hess (eight kills) came up big at the net. Setter Nate Brown added 27 assists to go along with four kills and four blocks.
NORTH PENN 3, QUAKERTOWN 0
Aaron Foulke had a season high 18 kills and eight blocks and was a driving force at the net in the Knights' sweep of the Panthers. Aiden Green added 12 kills and two blocks, Jacob An had six kills and sophomore Sion Yeo had five kills and two blocks.
Monday, May 10
Non-league
SOUDERTON 3, DOCK MENNONITE ACADEMY 1 (19-25, 29-27, 25-21, 25-20)
The Indians put a damper on Dock’s Senior Night celebration with a tightly contested win over their neighboring rival in a non-league match.
“It was a very hard fought team win against a very talented Dock team on their Senior Night,” Souderton coach Luke Pinto said.
Andrew Brown and Aidan Wunderly both had 13 kills. Wunderly also had five blocks. Matt Quizon added six kills and six blocks, and Tate Kreiser had 14 digs. Nate Brown had 39 assists.
NESHAMINY 3, HAVERFORD 1 (20-25, 25-18, 25-8, 25-17)
The Redskins used a team effort to defeat the Fords in a non-league match.
Paul Allen (nine kills, one ace, four digs, one block), Josh Clendening (nine kills, two digs, three blocks), Josh Hamilton (eight kills, six digs) and Kieran Edwards (seven kills, one block) all had big nights at the net. Setter Nick Storz handed out 35 assists to go along with three kills, five aces and nine digs. Jesse Kovaschetz led the defense with 18 digs, two assists and one ace. Also contributing were Colin Smith (three kills, one ace, two digs), Aaron Benjamin (two assists, one ace), Ben Clendening (four kills, two blocks), Josh Adler (one ace), Dan Berzin (one dig) and Stephen Fario (one dig).
LA SALLE 3, BENSALEM 2
The Owls dropped a hard fought non-league match to the Explorers in five sets.
Tyler Hoang (17 kills), Jack Wineburg (11 kills), Om Patel (nine kills) and Shane Czop (eight kills) led the Owls at the net. Harsh Shah led the defense with 18 digs. Arjun Patel had two kills and three aces. Adam Nevrotski had three blocks, and sett Dhruv Patel had 43 assists.
UNIONVILLE 3, CENTRAL BUCKS SOUTH 0 (25-13, 25-18, 25-20)
South’s Josh Conley led the setters with seven assists and three digs in Monday’s sweep at the hands of the Indians. Garrett MacClay also had seven assists and led the defense with seven digs. MacClay also had five kills. Robert Coleman led the offense with two aces and five kills to go along with an assist and four digs.
