SOL American Conference
Pennridge 3, Upper Dublin 2 (22-25, 25-16, 19-25, 25-22, 15-12)
The Rams handed the Flying Cardinals their first loss of the season, rallying to win the final two sets after dropping two of the first three in the grueling five-set marathon.
“It was a back and forth match, very competitive,” UD coach Paul Choi said. “It was a tough loss but a learning opportunity heading into the end of the regular season.”
Ryan Benscoter turned in a monster performance for the Rams, finishing with 27 kills, 12 digs and four aces. Tyler Johnson (13 kills, three blocks) and Bryce Muller (10 kills, three blocks, two aces) turned in outstanding performances of their own. Skyler Ammon (12 digs), Thomas McKinney (10 digs, two blocks) and Dan Detweiler (10 digs) kept the ball off the floor with some strong defense. Setter Riley Kodidek handed out 44 assists and also had three kills and three aces.
For the Cardinals, Colin Dowdell (12 kills, five blocks, three digs) and Trevor Molloy (12 kills, one ace, two blocks, 18 digs) led the way. David Levin added five kills, three assists and 21 digs. Sean Seabrook had seven kills, one ace, one block and seven digs. Setter Spencer Beidner had 37 assists to go along with three aces, four kills and 18 digs.
Pennridge upped its record to 11-2 on the season (10-2 SOL) while Upper Dublin is 15-1 overall and 11-1 in conference play.
North Penn 3, Central Bucks South 0
The Knights earned a sweep of the visiting Titans.
Billy Dooney’s eight kills led a balanced North Penn attack, and Jacob An added seven kills and five digs while Brian Landes had six aces, six kills and eight digs. Aaron Foulke added seven kills and four blocks.
Despite using a lot of new players, the Titans remained competitive in each set. The team’s four starting freshman all had big nights: Will Tantum (two aces, four kills, four digs) Will Nothum (four kills, one block), Ben Grove (one ace, four kills) and Josh Conley (one ace, one kill, 10 assists and two digs).
Souderton 3, Quakertown 0 (25-10, 25-7, 25-14)
The visiting Indians rolled to a sweep of the Panthers.
Tate Kreiser’s 18 digs led Souderton’s defensive effort. Andrew Brown (six kills, five blocks), Alec Kreiser (four kills, four digs) and Calvin Radcliff (two kills, two digs) led a balanced attack.
Central Bucks West 3, Central Bucks East 0 (25-15, 25-13, 25-22)
In a battle of neighboring rivals, it was the Bucks earning a sweep of the Patriots.
For the Patriots, Josh Lyzinski and Matt LaBouliere continued their recent hot streaks with Lyzinski hitting .444 and LaBouliere hitting .278 and passing a 2.4. Lyzinski had nine kills, one block and one dig while LaBouliere had seven kills, nine digs, two blocks, one assist and one ace. Aiden Leichter had a team high 11 digs while setter Liam Ostrander had 18 assists, one kill, one block and one dig. Trevor Seestedt had two kills, one block and two digs while Steve DiRugeris had five digs and Reid Miller had four digs and two kills. Also contributing were Gabe Casiello (two digs), Lukas Coombs (two kills), Jeff Taylor (one kill, three digs) and AJ Helveston (one block, two digs).
SOL National Conference
Council Rock North 3, Bensalem 1 (25-17, 22-25, 25-15, 25-22)
The Indians improved to 8-1 in conference play with a hard fought win over the Owls.
Justin Burns led the Indians with 24 kills, 16 digs and one ace in a superb showing. Also contributing to the attack were CJ Horan (seven kills, one block, six digs), Riley Campbell (seven kills, two blocks), Anthony Depalo (five kills, three digs) and Luke Sill (five kills, three blocks).
Dylan Vanschaick (30 assists, eight digs, three aces) and Geoff Sanhanamudi (14 assists, 10 digs, one ace) shared setting duties for the Indians. Abe Eldo (16 digs, one ace), Martin Nguyen (13 digs, one ace) and Brady Klein (nine digs, two kills) led the Indians’ defense.
Harsh Shah led the Owls with 14 digs and two aces. The offense was led by Luis Rodriguez (six kills), Tyler Hoang (five kills), Shane Czop (four kills) and Jack Wineburg (four kills). Arjun Patel (seven digs) played well defensively for the Owls, who fall to 10-4 overall.
Neshaminy 3, Pennsbury 0 (25-13, 25-20, 25-9)
The Redskins rolled to a sweep of their neighboring rival.
Paul Allen (seven kills, one ace, three digs) and Colin Smith (seven kills, three aces, one dig) led a balanced Redskin attack. Setter Nick Storz had 20 assists, two kills, two aces, six digs and one block. Jesse Kovaschetz’s 11 digs led the defense. He also had two assists and one ace. Also contributing were Stephen Fario (two kills, three aces, two digs), Peter Nowak (two kills), Kieran Edwards (one kill, one block), Josh Clendening (two kills), Ben Clendening (one kill) and Aaron Benjamin (one dig).
Non-league
William Tennent 3, Lower Merion 0
The visiting Panthers used a balanced attack to sweep the Aces in non-league volleyball action.
Making contributions for the Panthers were Kellen Johnston (five kills), Connor Fleming (four kills, one block), Kirby Mooney (two kills, one block), Mike Catelli (five kills), Dylan Whisler (seven assists, two digs), Mo Djabri (one block), John Ellis (three kills), Sean Kelly (two kills), Joe Vasilevskiy (three kills), Anthony Buono (four digs), Nick Buono (eight assists) and Connor Tucholski (one kill, one block).
Monday, May 3
Sol National
William Tennent 3, Abington 2 (25-22, 25-23, 22-25, 17-25, 15-11)
The visiting Panthers earned a hard fought five-set win over the Ghosts.
Jay Layer (18 kills, nine digs), Mike Carr (16 kills, four blocks) and Jack Steilen (12 kills, four blocks) were a triple threat at the net. Cody Keeny and Ben Weir led the Panthers’ defense with 24 and 23 digs respectively. Setter Paul Nedeoglo had 38 assists.
For the Ghosts, Sam Miller had 12 kills, Bryce Lexow added nine kills, and Myles Winegrad and Sebastian Skenderi each had seven kills. Leo Presta added a kill along with 27 assists and 15 digs. Sean Dougherty had 30 digs, Myles Winegrad had nine digs and Gannon McGinley had seven digs. The Ghosts added 24 blocks: 12 from Sebastian Skenderi, Bryce Lexow had five, Sam Miller had three and Zach Miller had two blocks.
Non-league
Council Rock South 3, Central Bucks South 1
The Golden Hawks notched their first win of the season Monday - a non-league win over the Titans.
For the Titans, Will Nothum led the offense with seven kills, one block and a dig. Freshman libero Will Tantum had a solid game in serve receive and had 12 digs. Senior setter Eric Reizas had 12 assists and recorded his first varsity kill. Senior Kevin Forostiak led from the service line with two aces and eight points. Kevin also added three kills and seven digs.
Upper Dublin 3, Haverford 0 (25-14, 25-22, 25-19)
The Flying Cardinals rolled to their 15th win without a loss with their sweep of the Fords.
Contributing to the win were Colin Dowdell (three kills, two blocks, two digs), Collin Ross (two kills, three blocks), David Levin (three aces, four kills, eight digs), Trevor Molloy (two aces, 13 kills, one block, four digs), Spencer Beidner (four aces, two kills, 26 assists, nine digs) and Sean Bainbridge (two aces, one assist, 14 digs).
