SOL National Conference
PENNSBURY 3, ABINGTON 0 (25-17, 25-14, 25-21)
One win separates the Falcons from sole possession of a conference crown. Monday’s sweep of the Ghosts ensured the team at least a share of the title.
Justin Sadley led a balanced Falcon attack with 10 kills (.350 hitting percentage), two digs and two blocks while Luke Bucksar had eight kills (.357) and six digs. Sebastian Kloda had six kills and hit a dazzling .750. He also had one block. Jake Loerch added four kills, four digs and two blocks, and Nathan Sadley had three kills. Setter Andy Delworth had 29 assists, two aces, four digs and two blocks. Matt Caissie (three digs, three aces) and Will Bednarz (one ace) also contributed.
Pennsbury – ranked third in the latest District 1 3A power rankings - upped its overall record to 12-2. The Falcons are 12-1 in conference play. Abington is 8-8 overall and 6-7 in the conference. The Ghosts are 10th in the power rankings.
COUNCIL ROCK NORTH 3, BENSALEM 1 (22-25, 29-27, 25-15, 25-19)
The visiting Indians won a hard fought match against the Owls.
Nick Desautelle had a team high 12 kills to go along with 13 digs, four blocks and one ace. Sean D’Arcy added 10 kills, six digs, one block and three aces while Justin Burns had nine kills, 13 digs, one block and two aces. Seth Connors contributed six kills, five digs and four blocks. Sean Mealey added four kills, three blocks and one dig. Setter Vytis Duncia had 33 assists, seven digs, three blocks, three kills and one ace. Abe Eldo (six digs) and Ben Green (five digs) contributed to the defense.
For the Owls, Shiv Patel led the attack with 10 kills. Paul Leible (four kills, three blocks), Ethan Fan (four kills, four aces) and Basheer Ghafary (19 assists, two kills, three aces) also contributed for the Owls.
Council Rock North – second behind only CB East in the District 1 3A power rankings – is 13-3 overall and 11-2 in conference play. Bensalem is 9-8 overall and 6-6 in the conference. The Owls are eighth in the latest power rankings.
WILLIAM TENNENT 3, COUNCIL ROCK SOUTH 1 (25-20, 20-25, 25-21, 25-20)
The visiting Panthers defeated the Golden Hawks, and they remain alive for a district berth, the 12th team in the latest District 1 3A power rankings. Twelve teams will earn spots in the district tournament.
For the Golden Hawks, setter Mitchell Gribman had 25 assists, 18 digs and two aces. Libero Josh Rowlands led the defense with 18 digs and one assist. Shevy Fernando and Andrew Richards both had big nights at the net with 14 kills each. Fernando also had nine digs and two aces while Richards had 14 digs, one block and one ace. Middles Jatin Singh (two kills, one block, one digs) and Gerry Tasker (two kills, three blocks) also contributed. Defensive specialists JD Freed (three digs), “Brick” Berkowitz (11 digs) and Alec Rovner (one dig) made defensive contributions. Right side Josh Kats had three digs, three blocks and four kills.
William Tennent (6-7 SOL) improved to 8-8 overall while Council Rock South is 2-14 overall and 2-10 in the SOL.
NESHAMINY 3, CHELTENHAM 0 (Forfeit)
SOL American Conference
CENTRAL BUCKS EAST 3, CENTRAL BUCKS WEST 0 (27-25, 33-31, 25-19)
It’s safe to say you can throw out the records when these neighboring rivals meet. Although the 3-0 score suggests it was an easy win for the Patriots, it was anything but as the Bucks extended the district’s top-ranked squad to the limit in the first two sets before coming up just short.
East was led by Dylan Colbert (20 kills, 16 digs, three blocks), Jacob LaBouliere (14 kills, six digs, three blocks), Thomas Gallagher-Teske (seven kills, five blocks) and Christian Wolf (five kills, four blocks). CJ Dalby added two blocks, and Jack Miller contributed two aces, two digs and a kill. Steve Storm, according to coach Rob Minschwiner, once again ran a brilliant attack, amassing 44 assists, two kills, two blocks and an ace. The Patriots’ defensive tone was set by Ryan Figus, who accounted for 18 digs.
Central Bucks East (13-0 SOL) upped its perfect record to 18-0 while Central Bucks West is 11-5 overall and 8-5 in conference play.
PENNRIDGE 3, CENTRAL BUCKS SOUTH 2 (20-25, 25-18, 25-17, 18-25, 15-9)
The Rams – seeded 11th in the latest District 1 3A power rankings – picked up an important win over the Titans, the 16th ranked team.
Danny Rutter led the Rams’ defense with 19 digs to go along with two aces while Declan Larson added 12 digs. Chris McKinney (11 kills), Ryan Benscoter (nine kills), Austin Jalosinski (nine kills, three blocks) and Matt McCreary (seven kills, three blocks) led the Rams at the net. Ethan Lionetti added five kills. Setter Tommy Cassel had 40 assists.
For the Titans, senior Mason Zeo achieved 100 kills for the season with six kills. He also added an ace, three blocks and 15 digs. Aidan O'Brien led both the offense (15 kills) and the defense (16 digs) and also added an ace and three blocks.
“We played another exciting five-set match and unfortunately came up a bit short in the fifth set,” South coach Matt Ehlers said. “I was really proud of how they continued to play hard and we can see the improvement with every match.
“Sophomore Robert Coleman has played well since moving up with varsity a couple weeks ago with a block and dig tonight. Killian Fabiscewski had a larger role this match and stepped up with an ace and four digs.”
Pennridge upped its record to 6-7 in conference play (6-9 overall) while the Titans are 5-12 overall (2-11 SOL).
NORTH PENN 3, SOUDERTON 1
North Penn – sixth in the latest District 1 3A power rankings – earned a four-set win over its neighboring rival.
Setter Drew Coles handed out 19 assists and also had nine digs, three kills and one ace. Ryan Stewart – who also saw action at setter – had 13 assists, four digs, one kill and one block. Jamie Stewart spearheaded the Knights’ defense with 22 digs and three assists. Michael Wang led the Knights at the net with 15 kills to go along with two blocks, seven digs and four aces. Kevin Abraham (two aces, seven blocks, 10 digs) and Evan Rothmann (three aces, one block six digs) each had eight kills. Isaac Lambert added five kills and Manav Patel had two kills and three digs.
North Penn improved to 10-5 overall, 8-5 in conference play while Souderton fell to 6-11 overall and 4-9 in the conference.
UPPER DUBLIN 3, QUAKERTOWN 1 (25-18, 19-25, 25-22, 25-16)
The Flying Cardinals fought off a pesky Panther squad, winning in four sets.
Setters David Levin (20 assists, three kills, three blocks, one dig) and Devin O’Brien (22 assists, one ace, five digs) had big nights for the Cardinals, combining to hand out 42 assists. Mike Ryan (12 kills, five blocks), Matt Ross (11 kills, six aces, five blocks, 17 digs) and Mario Petushi (11 kills, four aces, two blocks, 16 digs) led a balanced Cardinal attack. Taco Thompson added 14 digs, one ace and one assist. Alec Madden had six blocks, two kills and two digs, and Trevor Malloy added four kills, two blocks and four digs. Joey Levin added three digs and one ace.
Upper Dublin is 12-3 overall and 10-3 in conference play while Quakertown is 3-13 overall and 1-12 in the conference.
