READING 82, CHELTENHAM 61
The Red Knights – or more specifically Yadiel Cruz – proved too much to handle for the Panthers in Saturday’s non-league game. The senior guard for the three-time defending District 3 6A champions lit up the nets for 37 points in three quarters, propelling the Knights to a 71-46 lead on their way to the convincing win.
“As a competitor and coach, I take full responsibility for the outcome,” Cheltenham coach Patrick Fleury said. “The outcome wasn’t what we needed, but we have to pick ourselves up, play with pride, have a purpose bigger than ourselves, and we will be all right. That is primarily my job to infuse that mindset and culture into our team. Tonight I didn’t do a good job of doing that or getting them to buy into that, and I take full responsibility.”
In a preview of things to come, Cruz scored 12 points in the first quarter as the Knights opened up a 21-11 lead. By halftime, he had 27 points, and the Red Knights led 51-29.
For the Panthers, Nile Tinsley’s 10 points led the way. Osei Johnson had eight points while Mark Hill and Assante Johnson both had seven points.
Cheltenham (15-5, 12-3 SOL) will travel to Hatboro-Horsham on Monday for a crossover game and close out its regular season at home against Springfield Twp on Tuesday.

COUNCIL ROCK NORTH 53, CENTRAL BUCKS EAST 44
The Indians saved their best for last. Or, in this case, second last, notching their biggest win of the season in their second last game of the season over an East squad in the top five of the District 1 6A power rankings. If the Indians – who are on the bubble - needed a boost in the rankings, this was it.
Senior Delaney McCaffery led the offensive charge with 24 points, and Amara Arroyo added 14 points for the Indians.
“Our message to our team today was to leave it all out on the floor, and credit to our kids, they did that and more,” Rock North coach Jack Kelly said. “We went into the game without Ruth (O’Keeffe), Amelia (Furman), and Sasha (Galarza), but everyone stepped up to fill that void. I have the utmost respect for Coach (Liz) Potash and the CB East program. They have tough kids who really play well together.
“Anna Barry is a phenomenal player who can hurt you in so many ways. For us to play as well as we did and to play as hard as we did today in a really physical basketball game, our coaching staff could not be prouder.”
The Indians set the tone for this one early, opening up a 16-9 lead at the end of first quarter. Arroyo and McCaffery both had a pair of 3s in the quarter. They took a 24-20 lead into halftime. McCaffery’s 10 points led the Indians while Barry kept her team in it with seven points in the half.
“I think the pivotal stretch in the game was at the end of the third quarter and start of the fourth - we were clinging to a 33-29 lead with about 1:19 left (in the third),” Kelly said. “Delaney found Addison Martin for a drive and kick three, and then Skyler (Wright) made a great pass to Amara who had a great finish on a baseline inbounds play, which put us up 38-29 at the end of the third. To start the fourth, Julia Koval made a great post entry pass to Frannie (Boyle) who finished on a drop-step which put us up 40-29.
“From there, we just did a tremendous job of handling their pressure throughout the fourth. It wasn't easy - Barry just kept coming at us and putting pressure on our defense, but I thought we did a good job of rebounding, handling pressure, completing passes and hitting free throws. Delaney was especially clutch down the stretch from the line, and everyone was just locked in on doing what it took to finish the job.”
McCaffery’s stellar 24-point performance included 11 points in the pivotal fourth quarter that saw her bury 9 of 10 from the foul line and finish 10-for-11 at the charity stripe for the game.
There was plenty of praise to go around after this win.
“I think the impact every player on our roster made on this game was remarkable,” Kelly said. “Megan Reichenbach scored just one point but talk about making a difference - she is as tough a kid as you will find, and she just came up with a ton of rebounds, loose balls, diving on the floor - she just put it all on the line for her team. She also had a great assist to Delaney on a backdoor and-1 in the third.”
“Julia Koval didn't score a point, but she was really locked-in defensively and is just so strong on the boards. She also had some great assists to Frannie (Boyle) inside. Addison Martin played meaningful action for just the second time in her career, and in addition to the 3, she came up with some crucial rebounds at both ends. Amara Arroyo played with a ton of confidence offensively, and she really left every ounce of energy she has on the floor in defending Barry.
“Delaney obviously had a great night offensively, but what has gotten overlooked is the commitment to the defensive end, particularly rebounding the basketball. Skyler Wright was really strong with the ball, and she did a lot of little things that often go unnoticed. And Frannie Boyle had a career game - she has worked so hard with our assistant Ron Buckley throughout the season, and she is seeing it pay off.
“I am also really proud of Frannie and Delaney for the leadership they showed today - they just kept pushing our team, and it was truly special seeing our team celebrate one another's success throughout. It was gratifying to watch. After an emotional four-game week, we look forward to a day to rest as we turn our attention to Pennsbury on Tuesday. Every single kid made winning plays throughout, we showed great poise despite some people being in new positions, and it we are happy, it all paid off.”
For the Patriots, Barry finished with a game-high 26 points that included a pair of 3s and an 8-for-10 effort at the foul line. Sydney Ralph added seven points.
Council Rock North (10-11, 6-9 SOL) will travel to Pennsbury for Tuesday’s regular season finale. Central Bucks East (17-4, 11-4) will close out its regular season at North Penn on Tuesday.

PENNSBURY 49, SOUDERTON 25
Sparked by the double-digit scoring efforts of Daniella MacDonald and Sofia Vitucci, the Falcons notched a convincing road win in crossover play.
“It was a nice win to end the week where we were on the road for all three games,” Pennsbury coach Frank Sciolla said. “I think we caught a little bit of a break in that Souderton had a game last night, and we were able to prepare. Souderton has improved every week, and you have to be prepared for them because defensively they do a good job taking away the rim.”
MacDonald’s nine points on three 3-pointers propelled the Falcons to a 22-11 halftime lead. They never looked back.
“Daniella MacDonald started the game off really well knocking down shots, and that gave us an opportunity to open up the floor,” Sciolla said. “We passed the ball really well. Layla Matthias had four assists and no turnovers, and Sofia also had four assists, and the two of them did a good job finding open people. Ava Jordan continues to give us good minutes at both ends and Maggie Burns did as well as she had some nice finishes for us.”
MacDonald’s 14 points led a balanced Falcon attack, and Vitucci had 13 points, which included a 5-for-5 effort at the foul line. Ava Jordan added six points on two 3-pointers.
“I realize that we have played two-thirds of our games on the road this year, but the hope is that it prepares us for the playoffs,” Sciolla said. “I think our division has done a good job with it because it’s so good.
“You think about how unique it is for Neshaminy to have two 1,000-point scorers playing on the same team, and both of them are scholarship college basketball players and they are not the only really good team in the division. The division is loaded with talent, and I hope people take the time to watch these players in the next few weeks because there are some really special seniors. It’s quite possible that five (division) teams will make the district field, and I’m not sure when the last time that happened.”
For the Indians, Kiera Fadden scored eight points while Emily Dick and Brooke Fenchel both had six.
“Brooke Fenchel did good job knocking down some perimeter jump shots for Souderton,” Sciolla said. “She’s had a really good career. it will be nice to get a home game this upcoming week although it’s going to be against a hard charging CR North team.”
Pennsbury (14-6, 10-5 SOL) will host Council Rock North on Tuesday to close out its regular season, and Souderton (3-18, 1-14) will travel to Central Bucks West Tuesday to close out its season.
