SOL Boys/Girls Cross Country Wrap (9-27-14)

28TH ANNUAL COUNCIL ROCK INVITATIONAL
SOL runners captured the top seven spots and 10 of the top 12 spots in the Varsity Boys 5000 Meter Run. Hatboro-Horsham senior Casey Comber (15:44.35), Central Bucks West junior Rock Fortna (16:10.65), Council Rock North senior Brian Arita (16:20.66), Council Rock South junior Andrew Hanna (16:22.50), and Bensalem senior Tyji Mays (16:28.26) finished first through fifth, respectively, and all five posted times that met the national silver standard.
Central Bucks West captured the team title with 65 points, edging Twin Valley (85). Council Rock North was third (124), and Hatboro-Horsham finished fourth (188). Twenty-six teams participated in the race with 170 runners completing the course.
CB West finished first out of 21 junior varsity teams and also had five of the top six finishers out of 228 runners.

On the girls’ side, the top SOL finisher was Wissahickon junior Lotte Black who finished fourth with a time of 19:40.05. Her time met the national silver standard. Springfield senior Olivia Blackton finished sixth (19:52.50). They were the lone SOL runners in the top 10 out of a field of 147 runners.
Council Rock North was the top SOL team, capturing fourth out of the 21 participating teams. The Indians also had the top finisher in the jayvee team standings, capturing fourth place out of 17 teams.

50th ANNUAL McQUAID INVITATIONAL (Rochester, N.Y.)
The Pennsbury boys’ team finished ninth out of 15 teams in the Class AAA competition at the prestigious McQuaid Invitational, which is one of the largest scholastic races. Sam Webb finished eighth with a time of 14:58.7 while Alek Sauer was 27th with a time of 15:45.4.

CARLISLE INVITATIONAL
The Upper Dublin girls’ team finished second in the 55-team champion division while Upper Merion was 25th and Abington was 49th. Finishing in the top 100 in the 397-runner field were Upper Dublin’s Lucile Ionescu (17th, 19:50), Sarah Smith (26th, 20:03), Sophie Gustafson (39th, 20:40), Marissa Holl (65th, 21:11) and Emily Stewart (76th, 21:26).
On the boys’ side, Abington finished seventh in the 51-team champion division while Upper Dublin was 21st. Manheim Central captured the team title. Finishing in the top 100 from Abington were Jake Good (11th, 16:47), Christian Troemel (45th, 17:35), Peter Kondrat (67th, 17:52) and Caeden Cloud (71st, 17:56). For Upper Dublin, Andrew Stewart (15th, 16:55) and Riley Hannon (53rd, 17:39) finished in the top 100 out of 356 runners who completed the race.
