Girls’ Lacrosse

PENNRIDGE 17, CHELTENHAM 16
Senior Sarah Wiley scored with six seconds remaining to propel the Rams to the dramatic win in Friday’s non-league contest.
“These girls to not make it easy for me,” Pennridge coach Heidi Rimmer said. “It was back and forth and never got more than a point ahead for either team.
“They really needed (this win). They’re a great group of girls. It’s just a matter of getting everyone to come together. They still had some things they didn’t do tremendously, but they had some things they did well. It was nice to get the win.”
The Rams were led by the four-goal efforts of Leah Alcott and Aerin McHugh while Taylor Dachowski added the hat trick. Wiley had a pair of goals, and Molly Hurley, Megan Conwell, Jackie Stevens and Sam Rider each added single goals.
“There were seven different girls that scored, and that’s something I know that we have – girls that can do it,” Rimmer said. “It’s just a matter of everybody showing up on the same day. I was happy with that.
“They’ve been working hard on the draw, and they did well today. They executed some plays they have been working on. It was nice to see things come together for them.”
Sammie McManus (six goals) and Allison Hawkins (five goals) had big days offensively for the Lady Panthers. Allie Liss had two goals while Gabby Szczepanek and Emily Hawkins both had one goal.
Pennridge goalie Danielle Nichols was credited with three saves while Cheltenham’s Jack Dudd had 10 saves.
While the Lady Panthers fell to 7-6, the Rams saw their record improve to 3-9.
“Our bench is pretty slim – we have one sub, so we’re really down numbers, but everyone is stepping up,” Rimmer said. “They’re all keeping their heads up. They don’t really get down for very long. They deal with it, put it aside and move on, which is pretty nice to see but hard to do sometimes.”
