Girls’ Lacrosse
PENNRIDGE 15, CENTRAL BUCKS SOUTH 14
The Rams clearly saved their best for last, following Thursday’s overtime win over Central Bucks East with a thrilling one-goal win over the Titans.
“They played really well,” coach Heidi Rimmer said. “They used each other well on the field.
“We have a tough week ahead, but I think knowing they have done so well they can go into those games feeling really good about themselves. It’s just nice to finish on a high note, but even when we were losing, they kept their heads high, which is an attribute that is really good for them.”
The win was the Rams’ third in four games. Not bad for a squad that opened its season with just one win in its first seven games.
“I guess it’s just taken them a long time to gel with one another,” Rimmer said. “I think there’s a confidence they’ve developed through the season. They know they can give (the ball) up, and someone is going to do something positive with it.
“In the beginning of the season, there’s a little hesitancy – if someone is wide open, are they going to catch it or aren’t they. There’s not that hesitancy any more. If someone is open, the ball goes there.
“They’re making really good connections with one another, and for them, that’s pretty key. We have really fast girls, but they can’t run back and forth the whole game. Lacrosse is a game of throwing and catching, and the benefit of utilizing open people when they’re there is really starting to work for them.”
Sarah Wiley, Jackie Stevens and Taylor Dachowski led a balanced Ram attack with three goals each. Maddie Maher and Leah Alcott both added two goals while Molly Hurley had one goal.
“It was nice because it was senior night,” Rimmer said. “Offensively, Sarah Yerk did well, and Molly Hurley had a nice goal.
“Even the defense really stepped up tonight. Coming out ahead in these close games has been a confidence booster in itself.”
Senior goalie Lynsey Babcock had eight saves in goal in her first game action back after being sidelined with concussion-like symptoms.
“She did really well,” Rimmer said. “The goalies keep you in the game too.”
Senior captain Maddie DiBrino led the Titans with seven goals while sophomore Megan Hamilton added four. Devon Dietzel had two goals, and Alex Zinkand had one goal.
“Maddie DiBrino had a great game,” Rimmer said. “We tried to shut her down, but she was unstoppable tonight.”
