HATBORO 10, CENTRAL BUCKS SOUTH 3
The Titans fell to the undefeated Hatters by just two goals in their last matchup on April 5 (6-4 final), so the stage was set for Tuesday’s big game. However, the Hatters played with poise from the opening whistle and maintained possession and control of the game for the duration.
The first quarter ended with the Hatters on top 2-1, and they upped that lead to 5-2 heading into halftime.
“Our kids really came out to play,” said coach John Kurek. “It was 5-2 at halftime, and after that, our kids really rallied and finished the game.”
Kurek applauded the offensive efforts of Jimmy Murphy (3 goals, 2 assists), Zach Erwine (2 goals) and Ben Cellini (1 goal) who all made significant contributions in the victory.
“They really played well together,” said Kurek. “The first time, [CB South] played solid defense, and we practiced to play against their zone. This time we felt more prepared, and it was good to play on our turf.”
Connor Kreston (2 goals) also scored for the Hatters along with Ryan Higgins (1 goals) and Steve Palo (1 goal) while keeper Marc Poust had 15 saves on 18 shots.

“We are going to take it one game at a time,” said Kurek. “We know East will be hungry, and we will need to take care of little things.”

PENNSBURY 11, ABINGTON 7
The Falcons got off to their traditional slow start and trailed the Ghosts 6-4 at the half before regaining their composure.
“It really came down to transitioning the ball and making poor choices and bad passes,” said coach Kelly White. “We weren’t coming up with 50-50 balls or draw controls, and offensively we didn’t make good choices.”
Ten minutes into the second half, the Falcons had recuperated and erased the Ghosts’ lead, thanks to goals from midfielder Joy Hopkins (2 goals, 2 assists).
“In the second half we made a few adjustments,” said White. “Joy Hopkins did great on draw controls, she had a stellar game and she also put it in the net tonight. She’s our number one attacker.”
Along with Hopkins, Kelsy Gumbert (4 goals), Jackie Sweeney (2 goals), Carson Smith (1 goal) and Missy Frankil (1 goal, 1 assist) got into the scoring column for the Falcons.
Defensively, the Falcons held the Ghosts to only one goal in the second half
“Defensively, they played awesome, and they shut them down on one-on-ones to goal,” said White. “Ali Hickman is the anchor of the defense, and she can deny transition and she can get the ball out too. She plays beautiful low ‘D.’”
White also credited goalie Liana Eyre with a phenomenal game, turning away 10 shots.
The Ghosts fell to 3-4 in league play (5-7 overall) while the Falcons remain in the penthouse of the National Conference with a perfect 6-0 league record (9-2 overall). They hope to remain unbeaten to take home the school’s first league title.
“I know it’s in them, and I am hoping we can play our game and come out to our advantage,” White said of her team, which will face both Council Rock North and South next week to close out its league season.
“We have a nice group of players,” said White. “I want them to win the remainder of the games and play the way I know they can play.”
