NATIONAL CONFERENCE

Council Rock South 0, Neshaminy 0 (2 OT)
The top two teams in the National League battled to a 0-0 tie after 100 minutes on Thursday. Earlier this season, the Golden Hawks handed the Redskins their only loss in the league, so it was no surprise that this rematch was another battle. Although both teams had their chances to score, neither was able to find the net, and the game ended deadlocked 0-0.
“It was a good hard-fought game,” Rock South coach Alan Nicholl said. “You could tell there was a lot on the line.”
Nicholl noted that his team had its share of chances but credited the ‘Skins with keeping them off the scoreboard. The Redskins maintain their one-point lead over the Golden Hawks in the conference standings.
“We needed to win today,” said Nicholl about the disappointing tie game.
Despite the outcome, the Golden Hawks coach was pleased with his team’s effort.
“As the game wore on, we upped the tempo and thoroughly outplayed them in OT,” he said.
Nicholl especially commended the play of midfielders Julian Antal and Chris Spadaro along with forward Dalton Ford.
“They were tremendous,” he said. “They did everything but score.”
The last two league games for these teams will determine who will finish atop the conference standing. South will face William Tennent and Council Rock North while Neshaminy will take on North in addition to third place Pennsbury.

Bensalem 3, Council Rock North 2

Josh Peprah connected for the hat trick to lead the Owls to the win. The Indians sandwiched single goals around three consecutive goals by the Owls, who led 2-1 at halftime. Scoring for the Indians were Sean Meara and Alex Lean.

GIRLS

CONTINENTAL CONFERENCE

Central Bucks East 2, Quakertown 1 (OT)
The Panthers (2-9-1 SOL, 5-9-1 overall) kept the first place Patriots on edge as they led by a single goal for 43 minutes of this league matchup. Shannon Gibat scored a goal before the half to stake the Panthers to a 1-0 lead.
The Patriots did not get on the scoreboard until the 73rd minute when Danielle DeMichael converted a ball from Taylor Mysza into a goal to tie the game and send the game into overtime.
The first 10-minute overtime period was about to end when midfielder Annie Axenroth prepped a ball for freshman Josie Dutton with 37 seconds remaining. Dutton, who had her back to the net, turned quickly and played the shot into the keeper’s upper left corner for the game winner. It was Dutton’s second career goal.
Coach Paul Eisold commended the play of Nicole Pannella and Mysza, who was needed to play a variety of roles in the narrow victory.
The Patriots (9-2-1, 10-3-1 overall) stay two points ahead of Pennridge. They will host the Rams at War Memorial Field on Monday afternoon in a battle for the top spot.

Central Bucks South 2, Central Bucks West 1
The Titans have found their rhythm in the second half of league play, upping their record to 5-0-1 in the last six league matchups after eking one out over the Bucks on Thursday. Erica Moyer put the Bucks (7-4-1 SOL) on the scoreboard midway through the first half and sent the Titans to the break trailing 1-0.
“We needed to calm down and we came in with confidence and determination,” Titan coach Joe Bocklet said.
Another 34 minutes would pass before the Titans found the net, thanks to the stellar defensive efforts by the Bucks, but finally Kendall Brodie buried an unassisted goal to knot the score 1-1. Three minutes later, Lauren Wills played a corner kick back into the center, and Brodie was there to send the header to the back of the net for the win.
Bocklet is thrilled with his team’s performance at this point in the season and credited the girls with a hard-fought win.
South (6-3-3 SOL, 6-5-3 overall) looks ahead to taking on first place CB East on Wednesday to close out its season.

Hatboro Horsham 3, North Penn 2 (OT)
Thursday’s league bout between the Hatters and the Maidens was scoreless at the half. The Hatters were the first to find the net when Sydney McNutt found Marykate Bateman, who snuck the ball past keeper Megan Gerhart (NP) in the 42nd minute. Gabby DiDomizio answered Bateman’s goal 13 minutes later to knot the game 1-1. Soon after, the Maidens connected again when Victoria Christiansen scored to take the lead. The Hatters weren’t finished however as McNutt converted a pass from Rachel Kaplan to tie the game 2-2 and send it into overtime. It would only take four minutes for McNutt to strike again and score the game winner off a Mikaela Malofiy assist to end the battle.
Coach Kate Lamplugh credited the efforts of McNutt, Malofiy and Maria Guerra in this back-and-forth league matchup. Lamplugh admited this was a much-needed win for her squad, which faces Quakertown and CB West in an attempt to secure a spot in the top three of the Continental Conference. The Hatters upped their record to 7-3-2 (8-4-2 overall) and the Maidens are 1-8-3.

AMERICAN CONFERENCE

Upper Moreland 3, Cheltenham 2 (OT)
The American Conference rivals battled to a 0-0 tie at the half, a tie that remained intact until Golden Bear Morgan Valera powered in a goal in the 43rd minute off a free kick. The Panthers had an answer as Emily Liebovitz scored about ten minutes later. Alix Macklin would score shortly thereafter to give the Panthers a 2-1 lead midway through the second half. The Bears would find the net once more when Lindsay Walder scored the equalizer in the final seconds of regulation to send the teams into overtime. After eight minutes of overtime, Bears’ keeper Leslie Weaver made a great save and punted the ball to Walder, who wove past the defense and found herself alone on a breakaway. Walder capitalized on the one-on-one opportunity to score the game-winner.
The Bears have now won three in a row and are making a push to get into playoffs.
“We would love to make playoffs,” coach Michelle Schickler said. “It was unfortunate that we had a lot of injuries playing non-league games.”
Despite the injuries that have plagued a few starters this season, Schickler says things are coming together.
“We found how to compensate for injuries and step up our game and put ball in the net,” she said. “We moved girls around, and some were playing new positions, but once they started adjusting, things started clicking.”
Some of the Bears starters who have been sidelined will return to the field for the last week of regular season play, and Schickler hopes they can continue their success as they visit Springfield on Monday. Upper Moreland moves into fourth place with a 6-5 record, while the Panthers fall in the ranks with a record of 5-7.

Upper Dublin 2, Springfield 0
The third place Lady Cards (8-4 SOL) topped the Spartans (3-9 SOL) on Thursday. Julie Cross and Asia Franke were the goal scorers in the shutout victory. The Cardinals face second place Plymouth Whitemarsh on Monday.

“Today’s match was well executed as all team members rallied to practice new lines in prep for the pending playoffs,” coach Shannon Franke said. “The dedication and mindset of this team is stellar. Their willingness to try new lines, and their steadfast confidence and self-policing has been so exciting to watch grow over the past few days.”
The Trojans (11-1 SOL) maintain their stronghold on first place in the American Conference standings.

NATIONAL CONFERENCE

Neshaminy 2, Council Rock South 1 (2 OT)
The Redskins clinched the National Conference title after battling the Golden Hawks to a win in a tightly contested game. The Hawks got on the scoreboard first six minutes into the game when Paige McDowell connected. McDowell’s was the only goal of the first half, sending the ‘Skins to the half staring at a deficit for the first time this season. The undefeated ‘Skins didn’t find the net until the 66th minute when Amy Mandia converted a Jess Kelly cross for the tying goal that sent the teams into overtime.
As the second overtime was about to expire, it looked as if this game would end in a 1-1 tie.
