SOL Boys/Girls XC Wrap (10-3-15)

Check out some of the SOL’s top cross country performances in this weekend’s cross country invitationals.

Paul Short Run (at Lehigh University)
The Pennsbury girls’ team won the brown division of the Paul Short Run at Lehigh University on Friday with 67 points, easily beating out second place Cardinal O’Hara (199 points). Senior Olivia Sargent posted a time of 17:51 to finish second only to Padua Academy sophomore Lydia Olivere (17:49). Also contributing to the Falcons’ strong showing were senior Hannah Molloy (18:12), junior Mary Webb (18:47), senior Maddie Sauer (19:06), senior Meridith Twomey (26th, 19:13), sophomore Rachel Estey (27th, 19:17) and senior Bailey Balmer (36th, 19:29).  All seven runners posted times that met the national silver standard.

Senior Maddie Villalba finished ninth with a time of 18:23 for a Central Bucks West team that finished 14th.  Also competing in the brown division were Pennridge (20th), Souderton (25th) and Hatboro-Horsham (31st). Villalba, Souderton sophomore Emily Bonaventure, Hatboro-Horsham junior Hannah Knudsen, and Souderton senior Ellie Bell also turned in times that met the national silver standard.

On the boys’ side, William Tennent finished second in the white division, Cheltenham was seventh, and Bensalem was 13th.  Tennent sophomore Sean Rahill finished fourth with a time of 16:29, Bensalem senior Rahi Sha was fifth (16:31) and Tennent junior Evan Hutton was sixth (16:37).

Pennsbury finished 10th as a team in the brown division while Hatboro-Horsham was 17th. Quakertown, 23rd, and Neshaminy, 39th.

Rahill, Pennsbury junior Eric Kersten, Neshaminy sophomore Rusty Kujdych, Hatboro-Horsham sophomore Jared Bixler and Quakertown sophomore Hudson Delisle all posted times that met the national silver standard.

Salesianum Invitational (at Brandywine Creek State Park)
The North Penn girls’ squad captured the team title of the 42nd Annual Salesianum Invitational Varsity Championship 5K with 37 points, edging second place Great Valley (45). The Maidens earned the first three spots in the race with sophomore Ariana Gardizy finishing first with a time of 20:01.17. Senior Phoebe Clowser was second (20:13.75), and sophomore Olivia Dyer was third (20:19.69). Jenna Webb (22:07.22), Lauren Matulevich (22:11.19) and Tara McLaughlin (23:24.17) finished in 15th, 16th and 18th places respectively.

The Wissahickon girls’ squad finished third in the Girls’ Varsity Large School 5K with 60 points, trailing only Archbishop Wood and Baldwin. Sophomore Hayley Ross was the first Trojan runner to cross the line, finishing sixth with a time of 22:29.22. Sophomore Kendall Quesenberry was eighth (22:32.03), freshman Sara Brooks was 11th (23:06.27) and freshman Tara Jog was 15th (23:49.90). Freshman Logan Weber (24:13.44) and senior Elyse Kauffman (24:33.39) finished in 20th and 22nd place respectively.

On the boys’ side, Wissahickon senior Lukas Marcelis captured the individual title of the Boys’ Varsity Large School 5K with a time of 16:57.34. Also finishing in the top 25 was senior Andrew Harman, who finished 19th with a time of18:47.44. The Trojans finished eighth as a team. Great Valley captured the team title.

In the boys’ Varsity Championship Race, North Penn finished fourth in the team competition. North Penn’s top finishers were sophomore Colin Grace (10th, 18:03.88), junior Zach Thomas (11th, 18:06.09), freshman Nick Cataldi (14th, 18:12.19), sophomore Brendan O’Toole (16th, 18:16.94) and senior Delphin Monga (25th, 18:45.33).
