Check out the standout performances of SOL runners at Saturday’s invitational meets.
The Council Rock North boys’ team won the Steel City Invitational on Saturday. The Indians had the top three individual finishers and five of the top nine, earning 23 points to second place Downingtown East’s 91. Neshaminy was fifth with 144 points.
Individually, Rock North senior Mac Emery finished first with a time of 16:48.66, junior Ross Williams was second (17:05.14) and senior James Zingarini (17:29.14) was third. Rock North sophomore Brian Arita finished eighth (17:53.09) and sophomore Sean Griswold was ninth (18:05.22). Neshaminy’s Eric Chapman finished 10th (18:05.44) and his teammate, Joe Sulon, was 11th with a time of 18:07.53. Rock North’s Jesse Laitman was 21st with a time of 18:45.81.
On the girls’ side, Council Rock North finished second to Downingtown East at the Steel City Invitational, trailing East by just one point in the final standings with 36 points. Cheltenham finished seventh with 166 points, and Neshaminy was eighth in the 10-team field with 208 points.
Rock North senior Kate Scott finished first overall, 37 seconds ahead of her nearest opponent with a time of 20:14. Rock North junior Kaelyn Heinicke finished fourth (21:05.22), Rock North senior Hannah Kruman was sixth (21:14.23) and Rock North junior Nicki Van Thuyne was seventh (21:26.97). Other SOL runners in the top 25 were Neshaminy senior Kate Pinker (17th, 22:24.59), Rock North junior Grace Hartman (19th, 22:41.45) and Rock North freshman Annie Shea (21st, 22:46.62). Senior Cecilia Rosenbloom (30th, 23:27.26) was Cheltenham’s top finisher.
The North Penn girls’ team finished second at the Salesianum Cross Country Invitational on Saturday with 63 points, behind only Oakton (Va.), which had 52 points. Phoebe Clowser was North Penn’s top finisher in seventh place (20:38). Ali Valenti (10th, 20:52), Melanie Vlasic (11th, 20:57) and Courtney Kern (14th, 21:01) also finished in the top 25. Janki Patel (21st, 21:24), Brianna Mengini (23rd, 21:33) and Colleen McGovern (34th, 22:31) also finished strong.
The Central Bucks West girls’ squad won the Souderton Invitational, finishing with 40 points. Central Bucks South was second (106 points), Wissahickon was fifth (148), Souderton finished ninth (213), Plymouth Whitemarsh was 12th (290) and Quakertown was 13th (296) in the 14-team field.
Individually, Methacton’s Kara Steinke finished first with a new course record (18:05). Central Bucks South’s Kaitlin Poiesz was second (18:34) while CB West’s Maddie Villalba (18:44) and Emory Griffin (18:48) were third and fourth respectively. Wissahickon’s Lotte Black finished fifth (18:48), and CB West’s Meghan Iatarola (19:03) was ninth. Other SOL runners finishing in the top 25 were CB West’s Gretchen Krause (11th, 19:23), CB South’s Brynne Mulloy (13th, 19:33), CB West’s Lindsey Gerlach (14th, 19:44), CB West’s Keelan McDonald (16th, 19:49), CB West’s Shelby Bingaman (20th, 20:17).
On the boys’ side at the Souderton Invitational, Wissahickon and Twin Valley finished in a tie for first with 69 points, but the Trojans won the team title based on the time of their sixth place runner. Plymouth Whitemarsh finished third (71 points), Souderton was fourth (77), and Quakertown was fifth (96 points) in the seven-team field.
Souderton’s Connor Linse captured the individual title, posting a time of 16:16 on his home course. Quakertown’s Alex Balla was second (16:31), and Plymouth Whitemarsh’s Cassidy Silverthorn was third (16:38). Quakertown’s Colin McLaughlin was fourth (16:41), Wissahickon’s Tristan Marcelis finished fifth (16:52), Souderton’s Dan Bedell was sixth (16:57), Wissahickon’s Lukas Marcelis finished eighth (17:04), and PW’s Dan Shalala was 10th (17:18). Other SOL runners finishing in the top 25 were Robert Biddle (11th, 17:19), Wissahickon’s Sawyer Freoch (12th, 17:20), Souderton’s Mitch Schlegel (17th, 17:41), PW’s Jared Abelinan (20th, 17:46), Wissahickon’s Eric Bussart (21st, 17:47), Wissahickon’s Nick Gude (23rd, 17:51), Souderton’s Bobby Greve (24th, 17:52) and Quakertown’s Chris Mikavich (25th, 17:56).
