Lady Hatters Expunge Game Skid at 129 in 2012-2013 Opener vs.Visiting PW
Lady Hatters split 2-2 and lose match to PW, 1,652-1,629

By Plymouth Whitemarsh Class of 2011 alum Scott Samuel David Weiss

WARMINSTER, Pa- Harboro-Horsham coach Mike had a large grin and chuckled with his Lady Hatters. Spectators, Hatters teammates both boys and girls, and even Plymouth Whitewash faithful clapped in unison. After the Lady Hatters' Marisa completed the second set with a 115, the Lady Hatters convincingly prevailed as victors, 575-503, against the Lady Colonials. The second set victory in the 2012-2013 season opener ended a 129-game losing skid, Hatboro-Horsham's first game victory since the final game and match of the 2009-2010 season. A winning streak reached two games after a third set 555-528 triumph by the Lady Hatters, yet PW and Hatboro-Horsham each win two games (PW wins match 1,652-1,629).During the 2010-2011 and 2011-2012 seasons. the Lady Hatters could not muster against their competition, and Maggie Shaffer pitched Hatboro-Horsham's softball squad to District One and PIAA state titles in 2011.

[The Lady Hatters] were 0-64 two years ago and 0-64 last year" said the father of Hatboro-Horsham boy bowler Mike Ruddock.

PW and Hatboro-Horsham struggled mightily to find the pins in the first set as PW cruised to a 621-499 victory, handing the Lady Hatters  their 129th consecutive game defeat. Lady Colonials junior and anchor Jamie Pugielli allowed her bowling ball to find the gold path towards 201, which included four consecutive strikes during frames two through five. Lauren H. led the host Lady Hatters by depositing 117.

History had not been guaranteed to take place in the second set as PW held a 17-pin advantage after the eighth. However, spectators received a sense of a possible losing skid ending as the Lady Hatters entered the 10th leading 478-461. Gabby led the Lady Hatters posting 142, Jessie knocked 136, and also received 127 from Kelly. Pugielli could not find her share of marks by scoring 119 for PW, and Emily Amadio( 111) had been the other Lady Colonial in triple figures. Once Marisa finished the set with 115, coach Mike announced the end of a dubious record.

Euphoria of ending a prolonged skid did not phase the hosts as the Lady Hatters rung a  streak to two consecutive game wins, recording a 555-528 third set triumph against PW. Despite Pugielli leading all bowlers in set three by posting 127 for the visitors, the hosts received 125 from Lauren H., Gabby contributed 118, and Kelly scored 110. Susan JanFrancisco, a PW junior and catcher for varsity softball, tallied 105.

PW coach Jeff Blizzard has announced Facenda Whitaker Lanes will hold a PW alumni match on Thursday 27 Dec. 2012, and 20 PW bowling alums have already expressed interest . The 2012-2013 Lady Colonials and Colonials will host their next two matches at Facenda-Whitaker in Norristown: Wednesday 12 Dec. 2012 vs. Upper Dublin and Thursday 13 Dec. 2012 vs. Council Rock South, and the Lady Colonials and Colonials will also take a trip to Feasterville's Brunswick Zone to visit the same Golden Hawks later in the season.
