BOYS SOCCER
Council Rock North 1, Council Rock South 0
The two times Council Rock North and neighborhood archrivals Council Rock South met this season, the results were one-goal Indian victories.
That pattern held true again in Monday's District One quarterfinal matchup, as Alec Neumann knocked in an Ian Fitzsimmons throw-in in the 21st minute, and the defense provided yet another solid effort as the Indians blanked the Golden Hawks, 1-0, to advance to the district semifinals.
"The whole back line and (goalkeeper) Will Terry are lights-out at the moment," said North coach Wendell Beres. "It's been a total team effort defending. The midfield's getting involved.
"Ian Fitzsimmons is the unsung hero. He's getting press for his restarts, but defensively he does a great job shutting down the other teams' quarterbacks. Alec Greenhalgh was winning 50-50 balls today, Nick Hartwell pitched in and did some work defensively. We got the lead, and (South scoring chances) never really became dangerous."
The Indians will wait to see who wins Tuesday's matchup between Central Bucks East and Souderton to know who they will face in their semifinal contest.
Whoever it is, Beres said they're going to get the best that the Indians can give them.
"This whole experience has been very humbling for them," Beres said. "Are they confident? Yes. Are they arrogant? Not a chance. They're doing a great job, and it feels good, but they're never satisfied. They're still chomping at the bit. They want to play and they hate to lose.
"We may be a the point where we no longer have the pressure of 'win or go home,' but the guys are putting pressure on themselves. They want to win the district title."
