#1-1 PENNRIDGE 3, #12-1 NORTHEAST 0 (25-18, 25-14, 25-14)
The Rams made easy business of the District 12 champions, rolling to the sweep in Tuesday’s opening round of the PIAA 3A Tournament at Bensalem High School.
Ryan Benscoter led the Rams with 16 kills and two blocks. Also making important contributions at the net were Bryce Muller (six kills, three blocks), Tyler Johnson (six kills) and Thomas McKinney (five kills). Setter Riley Kodidek had 30 assists, six digs and three aces. Dan Detweiler had six digs. Contributing two kills each were Skyler Ammon and Nick Smith. Ammon also had four assists.
Pennridge upped its record to 18-2 overall. The Rams will face District 3’s third place team Central Dauphin on Saturday in the state quarterfinals at Schuylkill Valley High School in Leesport at 1 p.m.
#3-1 HEMPFIELD 3, #1-3 NESHAMINY 0 (25-19, 25-20, 25-22)
The Redskins saw their historic season come to an end in Tuesday’s opening round of the state tournament when they fell to highly regarded Hempfield.
"So proud of how this team and especially these seniors fought all year,” coach Pat Klingerman said. “They continued to get better and better each day, working hard and pushing one another to be the best they can be on and off the court.
“They accomplished a lot - best SOL National ranking, best District One finish, and a state playoff berth, all since 2014. I wish our six seniors, Paul, Stephen, Jesse, Peter, Colin, and Nick the best of luck in the future."
Senior Paul Allen led the Redskins with 15 kills and five digs. Josh Hamilton added seven kills and seven digs while Kieran Edwards had six kills and two blocks. Josh Clendening added five kills and one block, and Ben Clendening had three kills.
Senior setter Nick Storz had 35 assists, five digs, one ace and one block. Senior Jesse Kovaschetz had a team high 10 digs while Stephen Fario added six digs. Colin Smith chipped in one ace.
Neshaminy closed out its successful season with a 16-4 record (10-2 SOL).
