DIG PINK (Quakertown girls’ volleyball)
Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2012, 7 p.m.
This will be Quakertown’s 4th Dig Pink event. Last year, the 2011 Dig Pink raised and donated $4,200 to the Side-Out Foundation. This year senior Meghan Lopes will be taking over the planning of the event as her senior project. This year’s event will be a special ‘Dig Pink with a twist of Purple!’ The team decided to add a twist of purple in memory of the mother of a close friend to a lot of the players – Maureen Montoney – who lost her battle to cancer (Mesothelioma) this year. Montoney was an employee of the school district, she was involved in the community and she also was a loving wife. The team will be keeping their donation local this year and will be donating through St. Luke’s Hospital in Quakertown. Along with the donation to St. Luke’s, a portion of the proceeds will be used to open a scholarship fund to be given to a senior athlete who has an immediate family member battling cancer.
