ABINGTON 1, WILLIAM TENNENT 1
The Panthers dominated Thursday’s game statistically, but the Ghosts were relentless on defense, forcing Tennent to settle for the tie.
“Our team really played well today, specifically the defensive efforts of Faith Geating, Cate Hughes and Maddie Jones,” Abington coach Amanda Deering said. “They persevered today, and that made me very proud to be their coach.”
Tennent got on the scoreboard first when Colleen McCabe scored an unassisted goal at the 26:31 mark of the first half. Cate Hughes scored off a broken corner, using a Clare Rowley cross ball, to knot the score with 9:39 remaining in the second half. Both teams battled through a scoreless overtime.
“They got a goal early on, and we just kept battling,” Deering said.
The Ghosts, who lost center midfielder Grace Troyer for the season, continue to play down a pair of starters.
“For the rest of my team to continue to play well and for the substitutes to come in and not be scared to play in a varsity game has really shown the strength of our team,” Deering said.
The Panthers held a lopsided 11-2 advantage in corners. Abington goalie Faith Geating was credited with 11 saves while Tennent’s Tori Villceni had three saves.
The Ghosts are 2-7-3 in conference play (3-9-3 overall), and the Panthers are 5-5-1 in the league (6-7-1 overall).

PENNSBURY 3, HARRY S TRUMAN 0
Continental Conference
CENTRAL BUCKS SOUTH 3, CENTRAL BUCKS WEST 0
The Titans clinched sole possession of the Continental Conference crown with Thursday’s shutout of their neighboring rivals.
“This was one of our best performances of the season,” co-coach Jeff Harding said. “The team’s ability to combine and to utilize both sides of the field opened up a lot of space for us.
“Our corner unit executed well today, which led to two of our three goals. We were very proud of how they carried over the training to game play.”
The Titans improved to 11-1 in league play (15-1 overall).
“As a team, we played with poise, controlled the game and really took every opportunity in the circle and overall played as one unit,” sophomore Corrine Kenney said.
South goal Sarah Zezotarski was not forced to make a save in the shutout.
West falls to 7-5 in conference play (11-5 overall).
PENNRIDGE 1, SOUDERTON 0
Kari Moyer turned a Madi Reiss pass into a goal at the 24:40 mark of the first half, giving the Rams the early lead that held until the final whistle and putting a damper on Souderton’s Senior Night celebration.
The win was the third in a row for the suddenly red hot Rams, who were coming off an upset of Central Bucks West on Tuesday.
“It was the exact same thing as Tuesday,” Pennridge coach Nikki Thren said. “They came out and they wanted it. They played hard. They were stepping to everything, there was support everywhere.
“I said to them, ‘Why are you waiting until now to do this?’ They knew this was a game the last time we played them – I thought for the most part we dominated the game but just couldn’t score. Tonight we got that goal, and we kept pushing.”
The Indians held a 9-4 advantage in corners.
“We had plenty of opportunities, especially with an advantage in corners, and we just could not finish,” Souderton coach Lauren Whiteside said. “We had several breakaways that Pennridge’s defense was able to stop.
“Their defense played well tonight. This was a frustrating game for us across the whole field. We need to get back on the horse and play the game we know how to play…and we will.”
Thren lauded the defensive efforts of Reiss and Ben Van Pelt.
“Our defense came up really big tonight,” the Rams’ coach said. “I think a big difference is that the mids are dropping back and helping defensively, and our forwards were dropping back a little more tonight, which really did help.
“It was a complete team effort. When one person was losing it, the next person in line was stepping up.”
Souderton goalie Jen Bergey turned away four shots, and Pennridge’s Sarah Seiler had three saves.
While the Indians fell to 6-6 in the league (7-7 overall), the Rams improved to 4-7-1 in the SOL (7-7-1 overall).
CENTRAL BUCKS EAST 2, QUAKERTOWN 1
The two teams battled to a scoreless tie at the intermission, but Emily Ofsa scored a pair of goals – the first at the 18:46 mark and the second with 10:01 remaining – to put the Patriots on top 2-0. Marissa Glatt had assists on both. The Panthers cut that lead in half with three minutes remaining when freshman Becky Gerhart scored, using a Sarah Reigh assist.
East held an advantage in shots (13-2) and corners (14-2).
Both teams are 3-9 in league play. The Panthers are 7-9 overall while the Patriots improved to 4-11.
HATBORO-HORSHAM 1, NORTH PENN 1 (OT)
The Hatters, despite having the better of play, needed a goal by Sydney Rausa (Colby Eldridge assist) with five minutes remaining to knot the score. The Maidens took a 1-0 lead when Erika Myslinski turned an Emma Herb pass into a goal 18 minutes into the game.
The Hatters held a decided advantage in shots (28-11) and a 7-4 edge in corners.
Maiden goalie Chessa Kownurko was credited with 18 saves while Hatboro’s Emily Branewell had eight saves.
The Hatters are 7-4-1 in conference play (8-6-1 overall) while the Maidens are 5-5-2 in SOL play (6-7-2 overall).
American Conference
CHELTENHAM 2, UPPER MORELAND 1
The field conditions weren’t ideal for either team in Thursday’s contest as the game was moved to a middle school field since Upper Moreland’s field was underwater. The Lady Panthers rallied from a 1-0 deficit to earn the win.
“It was awful,” coach Emily Link Zegestowsky said of the field conditions. “The ball didn’t move very well. We really had to have big hits, especially on offense.”
The Panthers’ coach made some major adjustments at halftime, moving her center defensive back – Allison Hawkins - to center midfield, and she moved center midfielder - Carolyn Brown - to center forward.
“That really helped,” Zegestowsky said. “For this game, it worked really well.”
Gabby Szczepanek connected for a goal that knotted the score.
“She played really well,” Zegestowsky said. “She brings the ball up and has really good stick skills.”
The game winner came during corner play when midfielder Skye Wallace scored her first goal of the season with 10 minutes remaining in regulation.
“I don’t think we’ve scored off a corner before, so that was huge,” Zegestowsky said. “I was really happy about that. We work on corners at every practice. We played Truman last week, and we lost a tough game, but we probably had 20 corners but didn’t score, and it was really frustrating.
“It was exciting to have another win. It really was a team effort.”
The Lady Panthers are 3-9 in league play (3-12 overall) while the Golden Bears are 0-12 in the league (1-14 overall).
WISSAHICKON 3, UPPER MERION 0
Emily Gallagher connected for the hat trick to lead the Trojans to the win. Goalie Claire Tarzia turned away six shots in the shutout while Upper Merion’s Devyn Antonucci had nine saves.
The Trojans improved to 11-1 in the league (13-3 overall) while the Vikings fell to 6-5 in the league (6-6 overall).
SPRINGFIELD (MONTCO) 3, UPPER DUBLIN 0
The two teams battled to a 0-0 halftime tie before the Spartans exploded for three second half goals. Libby Fields scored a pair of goals, and Maria Vido added a single goal for the Spartans, who improved to 10-1 in the league (11-1 overall). Upper Dublin is 4-8 in league play (4-10 overall).
