Check out the recaps for SOL field hockey teams in action Monday.

Non-league
PENNRIDGE 1, COUNCIL ROCK SOUTH 0
Under the lights at Helman Field, the Rams hosted the Golden Hawks in their Home Opener on the first day of the 2025 school year.
The scoreline broke late in the first quarter. On a 16-yard hit for the visitors, sophomore Deegan Smith stopped the outlet, eliminated a defender and sent the ball ahead into the circle to junior Paige Cowper. Cowper gained possession under pressure and found Smith trailing at the top of circle. A quick pass back from Cowper, and a quick reverse swing from Smith sent the ball into the top of the net with 1:23 remaining in the first quarter.
The Rams held a 13-0 edge in penalty corners as well as an 18-1 edge in shots on goal.

Pennridge coach Chris Chookagian on the game: “The team enjoyed a full weekend off after our first game on Friday, had their first day back at school today and truly hit the ground running after the first whistle. Council Rock South came out with speed and also moved the ball well consistently across the field. Taylor Hume (CRS) stood tall in goal and turned away 13 of our shots. We maintained possession throughout the game, adjusted as we needed and stuck to our game plan. Which resulted in a team win at home."
--Props: “We loved to see our attacking unit creating more chances in the attacking third. Jaelyn, Paige and Colbie were relentlessly attacking the circle tonight. Our midfield and backs are seeing the field much better, and the ball-movement is starting to take shape."
Up next: Pennridge (2-0, 0-0 SOL) will travel to War Memorial Field on Wednesday to face Central Bucks West (0-1, 0-0 SOL) at 7 pm, and Council Rock South (0-1, 0-0 SOL) will host Central Buck South (1-0, 0-0 SOL) on Wednesday at 5pm.

--On the game:
“After their first day of school today, Upper Moreland came out ready to play.
Our offensive starters have been working hard to create connections for scoring opportunities, and it paid off today. Forwards and mids MJ Reilly, Melissa Torpey, Soph Riehle, Olivia Torres and Ella Gould combined for eight goals and six assists!
“Through these first few games and scrimmages, we are developing depth on our bench, which will be needed throughout our tough season. Hard practice and work on our corners also paid off, as Upper Moreland scored off of three corners.”
--Corner goals: “UM’s first goal of the game was an Ella Gould insert to Olivia Torres - Liv had a ‘back-of -the-boards’ shot for a score. Another corner score occurred when Olivia Torres took a hard shot on goal, and Soph Riehle tipped it in for the score. The final corner score was a sweep in by Harper Richmond (1st career goal) off a shot by Lyla Soleau (1st career assist) in the fourth quarter.

“The game continued with many new varsity players getting playing time that have been waiting their turn with our senior laden team last year.”
--Props: “Senior captain Addison Gans, Abby Kelly and Charlotte Russo played well at defense and mid. Gans scored in the third quarter off an assist by Gianna Jones. Then Gianna Jones scored her first varsity goal in the fourth quarter.

METHACTON 3, SOUDERTON 2 (OT)
The Indians took a 2-1 lead into the fourth quarter of Monday’s non-league contest against the visiting Warriors, who rallied to score the equalizer early in the final frame and then won it in overtime.
“Methacton outplayed us in the second half,” Souderton coach Sue Casciato said. “They were quicker to the ball, and their connections were cleaner. We seemed tired and lost our composure. We were down a couple of players due to injury/illness, but we should have been able to better rise to the occasion.”
The Indians took a 1-0 lead in the first quarter when Hannah Cornes scored on a tip during corner play. Methacton evened the score with a corner goal of their own. The corner fun continued in the second quarter when Souderton’s Lexi Yanchunas scored on a corner shot with an assist from Charlotte McNeill.
That 2-1 score stood until early in the fourth quarter when the Warriors evened the score.

UPPER PERKIOMEN 1, QUAKERTOWN 0
Neither team could find the cage for three quarters, and with overtime appearing all but inevitable, Upper Perk’s Burgundy Gahman scored during corner play with 3:33 remaining, propelling the visiting Tribe to the tightly-contested win.
“It was our first night game of the season, and it proved to be a hard-fought battle from start to finish,” Quakertown coach Peach Draper said.
Despite the outcome, the Panthers received some standout performances.
“Goalkeepers Anna Haberle and Darcy Baxter combined for an impressive 18 saves, keeping us in the game until the very end,” Draper said. “On the defensive end, Penny Longacre and Cameron Landis anchored the back line with relentless effort.
“Although we haven’t gotten off to the start we hoped for, we know the effort and hard work we’ve been putting in will pay off as the season moves forward.”

CONWELL-EGAN 1, BENSALEM 0
The Owls came out on the short of the score in Monday’s non-league contest, but it was not due to lack of opportunities - they held an 11-3 advantage in corners.
The Eagles’ Olivia Shafter scored the game’s only goal with 12:44 remaining in the third quarter.
“The Owls held most of the possession throughout the game,” Bensalem coach Gary Kubik said. “We continued dominating play on the field over their first two games of the season but were not able to outscore our opponent today.”
Although disappointed with the loss, the Owls’ coach saw a lot of things he liked.
“Standout performances for the Owls today were Kylie Blank, getting 5 offensive corners,” Kubik said. “Lily Lendzinski, who knocked down free hit after free hit, and Abby Cheung, who continued her outstanding play of the new season and had a defensive save also.

“We will continue to work on their finishing and will be back at it again tomorrow trying to get a little better every day.
Next up: Bensalem (1-1) will host Council Rock North in Thursday’s SOL opener.
