HATBORO-HORSHAM 7, WISSAHICKON 1
It’s easy to assume that past success guarantees the same for the present. Last year, the Hatters advanced to the state quarterfinals, but they lost several key players – including Carlee Baldus, Jane Henry and Colby Eldridge - from that successful squad.
“The first three or four games, we were trying to put people in different positions,” coach Laura Swezey said. “It’s taken a little bit of time.
“We feel good about the positioning of the different players. The kids have great chemistry again, and I’m pleased with the learning curve of those that have moved into the positions of those who left. “
After dropping back-to-back games, the pieces are starting to come together for the team.
“We’re slowly getting there,” senior captain Jenna Cutilli said. “Some of (our players) aren’t as experienced as we were last year, and that’s expected.
“We just want to keep learning and building off of it, and we’re really hoping for a good rest of the season.”
On Friday, the Hatters sprinted to a 4-0 halftime lead on their way to a convincing win. Jaime DiQuattro opened the game with back-to-back goals, the first with an assist from Syd Rausa and the second with a Casey Swezey assist. Abby Rusnak (Swezey assist) connected to give the Hatters a 3-0 lead 12 minutes into the game, and Kelsy Hopkins scored with 9:43 remaining to give the Hatters a four-goal edge.
“Honestly, every single game is a learning experience,” Cutilli said. “In this type of game, you have to work on your passing – look up and see your options.
“Every game is different, but you’re always learning.”
In the second half, Rusnak turned a Cutilli pass into a goal, and when Cutilli scored on a penalty stroke, the Hatters led 6-0. With 2:40 remaining, the Trojans got on the scoreboard with a goal by Emily Purnell (Ashley Laskowitz assist), but Vanessa Roy answered 30 seconds later with a goal for the 7-1 final.
“I think the players are acclimating well, and they’re so willing to learn,” Swezey said.
After the game, several Hatters as well as coach Swezey posed for photos with Lashkowitz, a former club team member.
“It’s fun,” Cutilli said of playing against a former teammate. “But sometimes it’s hard when it’s a tight game and gets more physical, but it really is a good time.
“Our three captains (Cutilli, Swezey and Emily Braunewell) - we’re all excited to play each other.”
Cutilli (William & Mary), Swezey (Princeton) and Braunewell (Richmond) are all committed to play hockey at the Division One level.

CENTRAL BUCKS EAST 2, WILLIAM TENNENT 0
The Patriots equaled their win total of all of last season on Friday when they defeated the Panthers in a non-league battle. Maggie Ryder (Abbey Butler assist) and Butler (Anna Careghini assist) accounted for the game’s lone goals.
With the win, the Patriots are 4-3 on the season while the Panthers are 1-5.
CENTRAL BUCKS WEST 2, PENNSBURY 1 (OT)
Twenty-four hours removed from an emotional come-from-behind overtime win over North Penn, the Bucks found themselves staring at another overtime on Friday. They eked out the win when Taylor Mason turned a pass from Kim Hitchcock into the game winner with 6:10 remaining in the overtime period.
Earlier, sophomore Bryn Boylan connected with 17:07 remaining in the first half, using a Cadera Smith assist. Four minutes later, the Falcons knotted the score when Sarah Zazzu turned a Haley Toadvine pass into a goal. Neither team scored again until Mason’s game winner.
The Bucks (7-0) held a 13-4 advantage in shots. Pennsbury goalie Wiktoria Gocal was credited with eight saves while West’s Bri DeAngelis had three.
The Falcons are 4-3 on the season.

PLUMSTEAD 4, PENNRIDGE 2
The Lady Rams (0-6) continue to search for that elusive first win. Plumstead used a pair of goals from Sophie Kent – who finished with the hat trick and one assist – as well as a single goal from Olivia Eshleman to go into halftime with a 3-1 lead. Kari Moyer (Meghan Griffin assist) accounted for the Lady Rams’ goal.
Kent and Pennridge’s Larissa Motts (Kellie Drugotch assist) exchanged goals in the second half.
“We are really struggling right now and looking to simply break through the win barrier at this point,” coach Becky Spahr said. “We need our leaders to step up and demand better play from our young team. Lots of games to look forward and work toward next week.”
Plumstead goalie Hannah LaBouliere was credited with nine saves.
