Central Bucks East 2, Council Rock South 1
The Patriots received single goals from a pair of sophomores – Marissa Glatt and Katt Miller – in Tuesday’s hard-fought win over the Golden Hawks.
Glatt (Carolyn Remmey assist) and Rock South’s Alex Agasar exchanged first-half goals as the two teams battled to a 1-1 halftime tie, but Miller (Glatt assist) connected for the game winner with nine minutes remaining in regulation.
“After we scored, I called a timeout and talked to the girls about how to win the game with a one-goal lead,” coach Marie Meehan said. “They just really keyed in on that and focused on possession and kept the ball above the 50.
“I think they really all pulled together and made that mental decision that – this is our game, and they worked together to keep possession of the ball.”
The game, according to Meehan, was evenly played.
“What was impressive was the girls didn’t get down when they were scored upon, and they changed their game in the second half to get more control,” the Patriots’ coach said. “We had opportunities in the circle. I think we’re somewhat timid.
“They have to know that everyone can score because last year we had Erin O’Brien as our offensive leader. Now they have to take on that role, so they have to get more aggressive in the circle.”
Meehan lauded the strong performances of Shannon Devlin and Carolyn Remmey as well as the play of her sophomores on the left side – Glatt and Miller.
“It’s a good start win,” Meehan said. “The girls are thrilled to have a win under their belts. I think they know they have to play sharper, but that’s the beauty of starting out.
“We don’t play again until Monday, so we have a lot of time to finish stronger and harder.”
North Penn 5, Plymouth Whitemarsh 1
Senior forward Amy Coughlin had herself a career day, scoring four goals and leading the Maidens to the decisive win. Teammate Elizabeth Fedele contributed three assists.
Coughlin turned a Fedele assist into a goal at the 25:45 mark, and just over a minute later, she connected on an unassisted goal. PW’s Meg McCullough cut that lead in half with a goal at the 12:06 mark, but Coughlin (Juliamea Marger and Fedele assists) had an answer, sending the Maidens into halftime with a 3-1 lead.
In the second half, Nikki Hill (Carly Pickford assist) scored, and then it was Coughlin (Fedele assist) connecting to put the finishing touches on a stellar performance.
"Amy was always in the right place and able to get her stick on the ball," co-coach Becky Poole said. "She never gave up and kept shooting until the ball went into the cage."
The Maidens, who improved to 2-0, held a 16-2 advantage in shots. Goalie Becky Stiteler turned away 13 shots for the Colonials, who are 1-1-1.

The Indians received a goal and an assist from junior Alayna Brown, and freshman Abby Gabriel scored her first varsity goal as Souderton evened its record at 1-1. Junior Taylor Yoder assisted on Brown’s goal.
“Abby is going to be a good player,” coach Mary Ann Harris said of Gabriel. “She’s the type of player that goes to the ball.”
The veteran coach also lauded the strong play of defensive backs Kirstin Russell and Natalie Guerreiro.
“Neshaminy’s defense was good for us having the ball in the circle as much as we did,” said Harris. “This is a step in the right direction.”
