UPPER MORELAND 1, UPPER DUBLIN 0
It had been a long time since the Golden Bears had defeated the Flying Cardinals. Almost six years to be exact.
The Golden Bears received an unassisted goal by Emily Jeinnings at the 25:11 mark of the first half and made that goal stand the rest of the way to earn their first win over Upper Dublin since they edged the Cardinals 2-1 on Sept. 16, 2008.
“It’s exciting,” coach Karen Grossi said. “The girls were ready to go into this game because they had played some of Upper Dublin’s girls at camp, and they did well, so they were looking forward to this game.
“They just came out ready to go.”
It was Jeinnings jumpstarting her teammates with the early goal.
“Emily Jeinnings did an awesome job,” Grossi said. “It was a self start at the top of the circle. She dribbled it right into the circle, drove it just like we want them to do in practice, and it actually worked.”
Grossi lauded the standout efforts of defenders Emily Keene, Melissa Felicetti, Samara Santry and goalkeeper Alison Felicetti, who turned away eight shots in the shutout.
The defense withstood nine Upper Dublin corners, including one that was played out after time expired in regulation.
“They all had great games,” she said. “These girls did a great job of clearing the ball out of the circle.
“Alison is getting better every game, which is nice to see. The game ended with a defensive corner, and one of my girls said, ‘Last year, if it ended this way, they would have scored,’ and it showed their attitude in general. They know they’re better, and they want to win.”
Upper Dublin goalie Mikaylah Johnson was credited with two saves.
The Golden Bears are 1-1-1- in league play (1-2-1 overall) while the Cardinals are 2-1 in league play (2-3 overall).

PLYMOUTH WHITEMARSH 4, WISSAHICKON 1
The Colonials picked up their third straight win on Tuesday after an 0-2 start to their season.
“In the beginning of the season, just being young – I only lost four kids, but they were really important kids, especially the two Konowals, and I think it was just an adjustment,” coach Marianne Paparone said. “We’re pretty young.
“I’m playing three freshman, and they just needed to play together and get some confidence and stop looking around for Rachel and Courtney (Konowal) because they’re not there.”
Paparone pointed to the improved play of her veterans as key.
“I think my best players have really started playing well,” she said. “Allison Spinelli got off a tough start – moving from right mid to center mid is a big adjustment, and she’s really started to come into her own, show some confidence. She’s using her stick skills much better in recent games. Aurora Mills is really starting to be a big help. Just getting some experience for these younger kids.”
The Colonials – who received a pair of goals from Paige Totten – took an early 1-0 lead only to watch the Trojans tie things up. The two teams went into halftime deadlocked 1-1. The second half belonged to the Colonials, who outscored their visitors 3-0.
“We played a great first 15 minutes today and a pretty strong second half,” Paparone said. “We played 45 good minutes, which at this point of the season is not bad.
“We’re playing much better. In the beginning of the year, we weren’t playing as a team. Now we’re starting to play as a team, look for each other more, have each other’s back, and that’s just made a big difference.”
Mills and Jess Dixon added single goals for PW while Kerin Bechtel had an assist.
Sam Pak scored for the Trojans, using a Sam Scama assist.
PW held a 14-8 advantage in shots, but both teams had seven corners.
The Colonials upped their record to 3-0 in league play (3-2 overall) while the Trojans fell to 1-1-1 in league play (1-2-1 overall).

Antonucci put the Vikings on the scoreboard at the 22:53 mark of the opening half, using an assist from Maggie Noonan. The Vikings led 2-0 when Lutz (Alyssa Adinolfi assist) scored during corner play five minutes later. That 2-0 lead stood until Antonucci scored with a Lutz assist with 41 seconds remaining in regulation.
The Vikings had a 15-1 edge in corners. UM goalie Devyn Antonucci stopped three shots in the shutout win.
The Eagles fell to 0-3 in league play (0-5 overall).

SPRINGFIELD 4, CHELTENHAM 0
The Spartans raced out of the gate to a 4-0 halftime lead and went on to win by that score. Tara Murphy got things started with a goal at the 22:16 mark, using an assist from Christine Campbell. Then it was Marley Berger connecting on back-to-back goals, the second with a Katherine McVeagh assist. Murphy closed out the scoring with her second goal of the game, this one unassisted for the 4-0 final.
“I think we played a bit better today,” coach Linda Nixon said. “Cheltenham has some really good speed, especially on the outside. They have a couple of kids who can hit the ball.”
The Spartans’ coach lauded the strong performance of McVeagh at defensive back and Brianna Buckley, who plays deep back.
Cheltenham goalie Tegan Dorley came up with six saves in the second half to keep the Spartans off the scoreboard. The Lady Panthers held a 13-3 advantage in corners.
The Spartans are 2-1 in league play (2-2 overall) while the Lady Panthers are 0-3 in the league (1-4 overall).

CENTRAL BUCKS WEST 5, SOUDERTON 1
The Bucks – who have outscored their opponents 34-3 in five contests this season – were pretty much untested through their first four wins. The Indians gave the Bucks their toughest challenge, keeping it a 3-1 game until the final minutes.
“They brought awesome intensity, and they were definitely bringing it to our defense,” coach Courtney Hughes said.
The Bucks came with some intensity of their own.
“They were really up,” Hughes said. “They just love night games. There’s so much energy on the field.
“I think they enjoyed being challenged. Souderton definitely challenged us bringing the ball down and penetrating. Right from the get go, you could see that they were going to be tougher, and the kids responded immediately. It was awesome.”
West goalie Brianna DeAngelis had one save on two shots, but according to Hughes, that doesn’t tell the story.
“There was a lot of consistent pressure defensively,” the Bucks’ coach said. “They had to be strong, and they only gave up a total of six corners – three in each half.
“There were so many balls coming in, so I was really please with our defensive effort because they really haven’t been pressured much. To see that they responded and were composed and didn’t let the energy of the other team get them off balance, I was really pleased to see that from our defense because we know what our offense is.”
What the Bucks’ offense is right now has got to be downright frightening to opponents. They are scoring goals in bunches, and once again it was Cadera Smith and Kim Hitchcock getting things going offensively. First it was Smith turning a Hitchcock pass into a goal, and the Bucks led 2-0 after a goal by Hitchcock with 4:50 remaining. Souderton’s Nina Disco scored with 2:44 remaining on a cross ball, but the Bucks connected on a two-on-one to close out the half on top 3-1. West had six corners and 10 shots in the first half.
That 3-1 lead held until a goal by Sami Zarett (Hitchcock assist) with 2:14 remaining, and 30 seconds later, Zarett connected for her second goal for the 5-1 final. West had two corners in the second half and 10 shots.
“Cadera and Kim have just been on fire so far,” Hughes said.
Earning the All-In award for Tuesday’s game was junior left back Emily Halderson.
“She just played so great back there,” Hughes said. “She was getting a lot of pressure because they would bring the ball down the right side a ton.
“She was tackling strong and getting rid of the ball. She was just phenomenal today, and Jacq (Fitzgerald) really was a leader back there, just keeping everyone composed and strong.”
Souderton goalie Shelby Landes was credited with 15 saves.
The Bucks upped their record to 3-0 in the league (5-0 overall) while the Indians fell to 0-3 in the SOL (2-3 overall).

NORTH PENN 9, QUAKERTOWN 2
It was anyone’s game for one half as the visiting Panthers battled the Maidens to a 2-2 tie, but the second half belonged to the Maidens, who exploded for seven goals.
“It was a great win,” coach Shannon McCracken said. “They are a solid team. They have some really good players.”
Amanda Lashkevich (Jennifer DeLongis assist) put the Maidens on the scoreboard at the 23:10 mark, but Becky Gerhart answered for the Panthers, connecting on an unassisted goal two minutes later. Amanda Laessig, who finished with the hat trick, put the Maidens on top 2-1 at the 19:51 mark, but again the Panthers had an answer. This time it was Emma McLaughlin connecting two minutes later, using an Elaina Abramson assist. Neither team scored the remainder of the half.
“It was a really good first half, so I kind of thought at halftime – it’s going to be a high scoring game,” McCracken said. “We made a few adjustments at halftime.
“Defensively, we needed to step to the ball better, and we needed to sharpen our passes. We made more possession passes the second half. We needed to go to goal harder and pick up the pace.”
The Maidens heeded their coach’s advice. Casey O’Donnell turned a Laessig pass into a goal just over a minute into the second half, and back-to-back-to-back goals by Kara Whitman, Amber Blackshear (Frankie Tossona assist) and Laessig (Jennifer Kersey assist) in a five-minute span gave the Maidens a 6-2 lead just over 10 minutes into the half. Laessig (O’Donnell assist), O’Donnell and Cara Landis (Abbie Roberts assist) added single goals to close out the score.
McCracken lauded the performances of O’Donnell and Laessig and also was pleased with the play of midfielders Lashkevich, Blackshear and Whitman.
“In the second half, they played a much better transition game for us,” McCracken said.

The Maidens’ coach went on to tip her hat to a Panther squad that last week saw its three coaches step down.
“They have a lot of players that have a good foundation of skills,” McCracken said. “They’re very talented.”
The Maidens held an advantage in shots (17-11) and corners (14-8).
Maiden goalie Marissa Elizardo was credited with 11 saves while Quakertown’s Rylee Lawler had 13 saves.
The Maidens are 2-1 in conference play (3-2 overall) while the Panthers are 1-2 in the conference (4-2 overall).

CENTRAL BUCKS SOUTH 3, PENNRIDGE 2

Sam Bodo, Emily Cliggett and Kasey Dietzel each scored a goal for the Titans. Kari Moyer accounted for both of the Lady Rams’ goals, scoring the first with an assist from Kirsten Moyer. She scored her second goal on a penalty stroke.
“Our team is looking better,” Pennridge coach Becky Spahr said. “Our goal is to keep improving each game. We are building confidence for our young team and looking to play with more intensity and focus.”
The Titans share the top spot in the conference with a 3-0 record (3-2 overall) while the Lady Rams fell to 0-3 in the league (0-4 overall).

CENTRAL BUCKS EAST 3, HATBORO-HORSHAM 2 (Monday, Sept. 8)
The turnaround is officially underway at CB East.
The Patriots equaled their league win total for all of last season on Monday when they won their second conference game of the season, edging a Hatter squad that last year advanced to the state tournament.
“We’re coming off a loss to North Penn,” coach Brittany Kocis said. “When we got on the bus to go home from there, they knew they didn’t play their game.
“As a coach, it was really nice because they were already talking about the next day’s practice. They just wanted to get to practice. They knew they could do better, and they were looking forward to playing Hatboro. When they got out there at game time, nothing changed, and that’s the way that they played. “
The Patriots opened up a 2-0 lead – thanks to goals by Maggie Ryder (Riley Donnelly assist) and Donnelly (Ryder assist) - only to watch the Hatters rally to knot the score. Kelsy Hopkins scored the Hatters’ first goal, dribbling the ball into the circle and releasing a shot from the top of the circle that found the cage. Casey Swezey connected for the equalizer on a penalty stroke. The Hatters were awarded a stroke after Swezey’s shot deflected off a defender’s leg in front of the cage.
That 2-2 score held up until three minutes remained in regulation when Ryder turned a pass from Abbey Butler into her second goal of the game, this one for the game winner.
“Just for them to keep their heads held high, push through and never give up – you can’t ask for more,” Kocis said. “They worked so beautifully together – 75 percent of that first half they played beautifully.”
East’s first year coach pointed to the standout effort of goalie Betty Wesney (10 saves) as a key to the win.
“She has been doing such a phenomenal job,” Kocis said. “She’s working hard and keeping her head up.
“The girls really stick together. There was a stroke Swezey took, but the girls were all supporting Betty, saying ‘Keep your head up,’ and she did. She came back and she didn’t let anything else by her. It’s nice to see a team sticking together and no matter what the situation you pick your teammates up and stay positive.
“Maggie Stella was a key in keeping the team together, and Riley Donnelly and Maggie Ryder played well, but it was a whole team effort. It was unbelievable. It was like finally they realize they can do it.”
Hatters’ coach Laura Swezey acknowledged the strong play of several East players.
“Riley Donnelly moved the ball well through the midfield to the circle,” she said. “Maggie Stella had many lifts from their defensive zone to get their offense started.”
The Patriots held an 11-10 edge in shots while the Hatters had a 7-3 edge in corners. Hatter goalie Emily Braunewell was credited with eight saves.
The Patriots are 2-1 in league play (3-2 overall) while the Hatters are 1-2 in the league (2-2 overall).

It was a 3-0 game when Josafinne McIlvaine turned an Alexis pass into a goal, and Renman closed out the scoring with a goal, using an assist from Christen Pennington.

Madison Kubik gave the Owls a lead they would not lose with 22:08 remaining in the opening half, and a goal by Skylar Bost sent the Owls into halftime with a 2-0 lead. Ten minutes into the second half, Victoria Reed turned a pass from Kubik into a goal, and for good measure, Autumn McBride tacked on a goal with 9:07 remaining as the Owls rolled to their first win of the season.
“This win is a great confidence booster for our girls, especially with our starting goalie injured,” coach Amanda Tu said. “Everything we’ve been working on finally came together in this game.”

Nine minutes later, she gave the Panthers a 2-0 lead when she connected on a corner shot, using a Megan Thompson assist. The visiting Pirates trimmed that lead in half with a goal at the 1:03 mark of the half. A goal by Gabby Dontonville (Elaina Abramson assist) five minutes into the second half closed out the scoring.
The Panthers held a slight edge in shots (7-5) and corners (7-6).

SOUDERTON 5, UPPER DUBLIN 0
The Indians took a 2-0 lead into halftime, thanks to goals by Keeley Jennings (Erin Sayboldt assist) and Gabby Sederas (Tara Maloney assist). A pair of goals by Nina Disco, the first with an assist from Ali Casciato, put the game out of reach. Maloney connected midway through the second half to close out the scoring, using a Jennings assist.
“We had some good connections today, and we were able to capitalize on them,” coach Lauren Whiteside said. “Our offensive line did a great job supporting each other and making the appropriate passes.
“Upper Dublin has a great coach (Heather Boyer), and we know from the past that if we let down our guard they would read that and take advantage.
“Keeley Jennings stepped up big for us in the midfield, Ali Casciato played a solid game on defense and Courtney Kwiatkowski helped turn the ball over from defense to offense.”
The Indians held a commanding advantage in shots (25-1) and corners (10-0)
