SOL Girls' Basketball District Preview (3-9-21)

New Hope-Solebury will host Pope John Paul II in Tuesday's District One 4A semifinal. Check back for previews of Wednesday's games featuring SOL squads.

Class 4A

#3 POPE JOHN PAUL II at #2 NEW HOPE-SOLEBURY (Tuesday, 7 p.m.)

NEW HOPE-SOLEBURY

  • 15-4 overall
  • 9-1 SOL Freedom Division co-champions
  • Shared division title with Class 5A #4 Upper Moreland, falling in the first meeting 44-39 and winning the rematch 39-21.
  • Led by senior Rachel Saxton (15.6 ppg) and Reagan Chrencik (14.6 ppg). Saxton will continue her basketball career at Muhlenberg College.
  • Rounding out a solid starting five are Kate Dougherty (a Penn State commit for lacrosse), J Covino and Madi Fasti
  • Three of the Lions’ losses came at the hands of Class 6A schools in top 10 – #3 Central Bucks East, #4 Upper Dublin & #10 Central Bucks West.

Coach Steve Polinsky says:  “We are excited to play our first 4A District playoff game against a very solid PJP squad.

 

POPE JOHN PAUL II

  • 10-6 overall
  • 8-2 PAC Frontier Division second place
  • Led by senior guard Amelia Kennedy (12.4 ppg) and junior point guard Tess Crossan (10.5 ppg)
  • Also making important contributions are Kallen Bustynowicz, Lainey Owens and Kayla Ciuba
  • Coached by CB South alum TJ Lonergan
  • Notched win over Class 6A #17 Perkiomen Valley (44-3) and split season series with Class 5A #6 Phoenixville (20-27, 44-37) & #9 Pottsgrove (33-26, 19-31)

Winner will face the winner of the #4 Villa Joseph Marie at #1 Gwynedd Mercy contest in Friday’s District One 4A title game.
