Plymouth Whitemarsh coach Dan Dougherty: “Kids continued to build off the momentum started, albeit in a loss, vs CR South Tuesday. The team has been starting games stronger, and that led to a win at Souderton Friday and over The Mount today. The game was very close throughout, and we pulled away at the end thanks to great free throw shooting.
“Playing/beating The Mount is a fun experience for several girls on our team. They’ve played together/against each other most of their lives. Glad to see our girls pull it out today.”
--Props: “AJ Avery was named player of the game, scoring 15 of her 19 in the second half. Eliza Meersman was outstanding on defensive end pulled down a game high 14 rebounds. McKenna Winland hit a big three right before half to give us the lead/confidence going into second half.”

NESHAMINY 40, VILLA MARIA ACADEMY 39
Sparked by eight points – including a pair of 3s – from Hayley Kolk, the Redskins opened up an 11-2 lead after one quarter and took a 19-11 lead into halftime. They led 32-23 heading into the final quarter when the Hurricanes rallied, but Neshaminy held on for the win despite being outscored 16-8.
Player of the Game: Alena Cofield led the Redskins with 13 points, 8 rebounds, 3 steals and was named Neshaminy’s Player of the Game.
Also, for the Redskins, Hayley Kolk had 11 points, which included three 3-pointers, to go along with six rebounds. Mia Raivitch also had six rebounds.
Neshaminy coach John Gallagher on the game: "I was glad we were able to get this game in with all the snow that cancelled the game on Sunday. Villa Maria Academy is always a strong team from 5A, and I thought they played extremely well. We gave up 17 offensive rebounds due in part to their hunger to crash the boards. The rebounding will be addressed, and it will be our demise for the season if not corrected. Our effort early in the game was minimal, as we picked up the effort in the second half, mentally we played in a fog. Villa did a good job getting mismatches in the low post area and took advantage on the defensive end to some of our decision making.”
Props: "The staff was in agreement that Auslyn Wilkins was an extremely important player for us off the bench in this game. That is hard to tell from the box score, but it was evident to all of us, including the players, what an important role she played today. Alena called her out after the game in the locker room for her contributions to the win. Prior to the season, Auslyn was in the mix for a possible spot off the bench for us. While some players may grow impatient and question why they are not playing more, Auslyn put her nose to the ground, took coaching, and recognized her role and adapted to it.”
Up next: Neshaminy (12-4, 4-1 SOL) will host Council Rock South on Tuesday.
