COUNCIL ROCK NORTH 42, NAZARETH 38
A young Rock North squad took another step in the right direction on Saturday when the Indians captured the championship of the Big Al Memorial Bracket of the Boardwalk Classic in Wildwood.
Sophomore Jessica Gerber turned in another impressive performance for the Indians, contributing a game high 16 points to go along with eight rebounds, four assists, two steals and one blocked shot. Hailey Burns added seven points, seven rebounds, one steal and one assist, and Katie Budny had six points, seven rebounds, three assists and one steal.
The Indians led 14-8 at the end of one quarter only to watch Nazareth answer with a 10-4 burst in the second quarter to make it an 18-18 game at the intermission. The Indians held an 11-9 edge in the third quarter to go on top 29-27. They led 42-35 with 34 seconds remaining after Gerber sank the second of two fouls shot and then withstood a late Nazareth rally.
"In the first half, we shot 6-for-25 from the field and the day before we were 6-for-31," said coach Lou Plakovics. "We had a little trouble scoring and a little trouble shooting. I can do better getting them into scoring opportunities, and they can do better shooting. It's a 50-50 thing, and I tell my girls that. I don't point fingers at them. I know I'm getting 110 percent from them. I need to do better as a coach to give them better scoring opportunities."
The Indians won the tournament despite the absence of Mickaela Finneyfrock (soccer tournament).
"She can play all five spots for us, and she's averaging at least six steals a game," Palkovics said. "If we convert on half of those, that's six points we're losing. I'm glad we won the tournament, but do I think we played real well? No."
The Indians improved to 5-3 overall (2-1 SOL).

NESHAMINY 55, WOODSTOWN 34
The Redskins were minus standout point guard Megan Schafer (soccer tournament) when they took the court for their opening round game of the Boardwalk Classic against Woodstown Saturday.
In her absence, freshman Morgan Goldenbaum was thrown into the heat of the battle and responded with an impressive performance, scoring eight points while handing out four assi
sts.
“Morgan did a great job,” coach Joe Lally said. “She only had one turnover the whole game.
“We are still getting great play from Lori Paulits.”
Paulits led the Redskins with 14 points and five assists while Sarah Oliveira added 13 points and a team high eight rebounds. Maddie Murray had 10 points and six rebounds, and McKenna Mullin had six points, five rebounds and five steals for the Redskins, who opened up a 12-9 lead at the end one quarter and took a 25-21 lead into halftime. It was still a 37-31 game heading into the final quarter when the Redskins blew the game wide open with an 18-3 burst.
The Redskins will face Owen J. Roberts in Sunday’s title game at 2:45 p.m. The Redskins are 4-1 on the season (2-1 SOL).

NORRISTOWN 59, LANSDALE CATHOLIC 55
The Eagles were coming off a disappointing performance against Pope John Paul II in Friday’s opening round of the George W. Snear Tournament.
“Last night was a rough night,” coach Ashlee Harrison said. “We felt as though they weren’t mentally prepared and focused.”
When the Eagles, who trailed 15-11 at the end of one quarter, fell behind by 13 in the second quarter, it looked as though they might be in for a long night, but a late second quarter surge pulled the Eagles to within one at the intermission (31-30).
“Tonight the girls were focused, and they bounced back,” Harrison said. “They were ready to go, and it showed.”
The Eagles outscored the Crusaders 14-11 in the third quarter to go on top 44-42 heading into the final frame, and they won it with an 18-10 fourth quarter surge.
“It was just the effort – they played together as a team,” Harrison said. “What a difference a day makes.”
Briana Hedgepeth led the Eagles with 20 points while Essence Williams, who had just two points in the loss to Pope John Paul, added 16. Sydney Morse had 11 points.
“They were excited,” Harrison said. “Everybody played well, everybody played hard.
“LC played hard. They did not give up, and they shot the ball really well. They had five three’s in the first half. Our goal in the second half was to make sure to defend the perimeter, and we did a good job of that.”
The Eagles upped their record to 5-3 (2-1 SOL).

CENTRAL BUCKS SOUTH 60, CONESTOGA 53
The Titans rebounded from a disappointing outing against Notre Dame on Friday at the Spring-Ford Holiday Tournament to defeat the Pioneers. Although they finished strong, the Titans got off to a slow start in the 10 a.m. contest, taking a 6-5 lead after an un-offensive first quarter but trailing 19-13 at the intermission. They came to life offensively in the second half, outscoring the Pioneers 20-16 in the third quarter to make it a 35-33 game, and they won it with a 27-18 burst in the final quarter.
“It took us a little while to get moving,” coach Beth Mattern said. “When we came alive, we came alive.
“We just changed up our defense, and our defensive intensity increased greatly in the second half. We tried to take them out of their rhythm on offense. Archie Schneider played fantastic defense for us.”
Rachel Falkowski recorded a double-double for the Titans – scoring 13 points and pulling down 10 rebounds.
“She was huge in just controlling our offensive end and being that player that gave herself to the team and doing what needed to be done,” Mattern said of her senior guard.
Jordan Vitelli led the Titans’ attack with 20 points.
“She came out in the fourth quarter and took shots – they dropped, and it was just a great effort,” Mattern said. “It was good to get back on the court and kind of redeem ourselves with our effort and execution.”
The Titans are 7-3 overall (2-1 SOL).

CENTRAL BUCKS WEST 58, NOTRE DAME (NY) 53
Sophomore Mackenzie Carroll led the Bucks with 18 points while sophomore Corrine Godshall added 13 points and seven rebounds in Saturday’s win at Hampton, Va. The Bucks upped their record to 6-2 overall (3-0 SOL).

WEST CHESTER EAST 63, BENSALEM 48
The Owls trailed 17-10 after one quarter of Saturday’s title game at the Plymouth Whitemarsh Holiday Tournament. A 19-4 second quarter by the Vikings all but took the Owls out the game as they found themselves staring at a 36-14 halftime deficit. They outscored the Vikings 32-27 in the second half, but it was too little too late.
“As well as we played defense on Friday (in a win over Chichester) – we couldn’t get it together on the defensive end during the second quarter,” coach Don Bogan said.
Ashida Cooper, who earned a spot on the all-tournament team, led the Owls with 25 points while Tyra Roberts added 17. East’s Nina Mazzarelli, who was named tournament MVP, scored a game high 30 points.
The Owls fell to 3-4 overall (0-3 SOL).

METHACTON 50, PENNSBURY 24
The Falcons took 12 more shots from the floor than the Warriors, but they connected on just 8-of-49 shots, which wasn’t good enough to defeat the Warriors, who buried 15-of-37 shots and also connected on 17-of-26 from the foul line.
The Warriors took a tenuous 8-6 lead into the second quarter when the outscored the Falcons 17-9 to go into halftime with a 25-15 lead. A 13-7 third quarter put the Warriors on top 38-22, and they added to that lead by outscoring the Falcons 12-2 in the final frame.
