COUNCIL ROCK SOUTH 60, CENTRAL BUCKS SOUTH 33
The Golden Hawks put on a long-distance shooting clinic.
Seven players combined for 12 3-pointers in a contest the Hawks controlled from the outset. Not a bad way to celebrate Senior Night.
“Tonight was about honoring our five seniors — Lily Bross, Haley Thompson, Miranda Cantor, Camryn Gregory and Katie Purpura,” Rock South coach Jesse Krasna said. “It was a Senior Night to remember and a great way to finish the regular season.
“I’m proud of how connected we played, and I think that translated into knocking down open shots. We had (seven) different players make a 3-pointer in this game, and I think that was a product of our chemistry, ball movement, playing in attack mode and making the extra pass.”
The Golden Hawks, who led 19-12 after one quarter, took a 29-16 lead into halftime. Fiona Reckner’s three 3-pointers for nine points led the Hawks. Kathryn O’Kane added seven points
It was a 44-29 game heading into a fourth quarter that featured nine points from Miranda Cantor on three 3-pointers.
“Miranda Cantor put the game out of reach with three fourth quarter 3s, and it was awesome to see the smile on her face with each one,” Krasna said. “She’s a kid who has been so committed to working on her game, and she has been a great teammate regardless of how many minutes she gets. Tonight, her preparation was met with opportunity, and she pounced on it.”
Cantor and O’Kane both scored 11 points and shared team scoring honors. Reckner added nine points, and Camryn Gregory had seven. Lily Bross and Haley Thompson both had six points.
“Cam Gregory was stellar — she attacked the paint and made so many great passes,” Krasna said. “There were several plays where she could have shot the ball but found a wide-open teammate instead.
“Haley Thompson has been such a bright spot for us over these last few weeks. She’s really been good about taking open shots and finding her teammates quickly. Lily Bross was fearless. She was an absolute terror defending the basketball, and she wreaked havoc in the paint on offense.
“Katie Purpura was giving up 4-5 inches, but she did a great job keeping her matchup off the glass. Her dribble penetration was also key in helping our offense get going. Kathryn O’Kane, Lil Metrick, Sarah Freeman, Maria Freeman and Fiona Reckner were all ready to go off the bench and they provided a big boost to us when they were on the floor.”
Yoyo Samayoa and Mia Klein both scored eight points to lead the Titans. Jules Tropea added six points.
“CB South is a tough, well coached team,” Krasna said. “They are battle tested, they present a lot of problems with their size and physicality, and Coach (Beth) Mattern has her team running good offense. She will have them prepared for the playoffs and will be a tough out.”
Council Rock South (14-8, 10-6 SOL) is ranked 18th in the latest District 1 6A power rankings, and Central Bucks South (12-10, 8-8) is 23rd. Both will return to action in next weekend’s district tournament.

SOL Liberty/Freedom crossover
WILLIAM TENNENT 39, PLYMOUTH WHITEMARSH 29
The Panthers closed out their season on a high note, earning the crossover road win.
“This was a big win for our girls,” Tennent coach Laura Whitney said. “The last seven years, PW has dominated us. They have had some great players come through their program. It’s not a coincidence that they have been one of the top teams in the area for the last decade and a not-so-long-ago state champion. I know they’re a young team this year and have been missing their best player (AJ Avery) for several games, but Dan (Dougherty) has his girls competing. So, for us to get the win tonight it’s definitely a statement win for our program.
“I’m so happy and proud of our girls. Despite the ups and downs of the season and coming up a little short of our goal of making the playoffs, our girls came each day with a positive attitude and have put in a lot of hard work. It’s great to end the season on a high with a quality team win.”
The Panthers – sparked by seven points from Morgan Volz – took a 9-7 lead into the second quarter and extended that to 21-11 by halftime. Volz accounted for 12 of those points.
Tennent held a 13-8 advantage in the third quarter and took a 34-19 lead into the final quarter on its way to the win.
“Our girls did a great job of setting the tone early and playing with a lot of energy,” Whitney said. “We haven’t played much zone defense lately, but our girls bought in and executed. They were extremely active and connected. I thought we did a nice job of not letting PW get into a good rhythm and rebounded the ball very well.
“Offensively, our girls stepped up and made plays. PW did a good job of taking away Avery (Kocur) and forcing someone else to beat them. Our girls believe in each other and have such great chemistry. We have multiple girls that can give us big numbers, so, they are used to picking each other up. Our seniors especially showed their experience and leadership and came up big tonight in their final game.”
Volz finished with 14 points to lead the Panthers. Halie Staub had 10 points while Ella Mednick had seven. Jess Whisler contributed six points for the Panthers in their season finale.
“The last game of the season is always emotional regardless of the outcome,” Whitney said. “I can’t say enough about the impact our senior class has made on our program these last four years. They have grown so much as basketball players but have become even more impressive individuals. They have made me a better coach and for that I am forever grateful.”
For the Colonials, sisters Joslyn Perez (9 points) and Marissa Perez (seven points) led the way.
William Tennent closed out its season with a 9-13 record overall. The Panthers were 7-9 in the SOL. Plymouth Whitemarsh (13-9, 8-8), 21st in the latest District 1 6A power rankings, will return to action in next weekend’s opening round.

UPPER MORELAND 39, HATBORO-HORSHAM 29
The Golden Bears did not score a point in the first quarter and managed just eight in the second but still took an 8-6 lead into halftime. Both teams picked up their offense in the second half, but it was the Golden Bears who had the better of play, outscoring the Bears 13-8 in the third quarter and 31-23 in the half on their way to the win.
“We ended the season on a high note with a nice win over a tough Hatboro Horsham team,” UM coach Josh Adelman said. “Coach (Eric) Glemser had his team ready and prepared to play. The first half was not a great display of basketball by either team. Both teams played strong defense, but the offenses of both teams left a lot to be desired.
“The halftime score was 8-6 and the message was given during halftime that it was time to play with more passion and fun. Starting in the third quarter our shots started falling and the game changed.”
Lilly Hansen, who had four first-half points, led the Golden Bears offensive charge in the second half, scoring 10 in the fourth quarter.
Hansen’s 18 points led the Golden Bears. Holly Gohl finished with seven, and Mikel Lancit had six.
“Lilly Hansen scored 14 of her game high 18 points in the second half,” Adelman said. “Lianna (Adames) and Holly (Gohl) hit 3s, Mikel (Lancit) hit a nice floater in the lane, and the offense started clicking.
“This team is one of the hardest working teams I have ever coached, and they listen and stick to the game plan. To bounce back the way they did tonight was just a glimpse of what the girls can accomplish when they play together. We are excited as a team to be entering the district playoffs and starting the second season.”
For the Hatters, Angelica Visceglia and Maddy Patel led the way with nine points each. Kitty Randa added eight points.
“A tough one tonight,” Hatters’ assistant Nicole Miletto said. “The girls played hard the entire game in front of our HHoops program, but we couldn’t get our shots to fall.”
Upper Moreland (15-7, 11-5 SOL) will return to action in the District 1 5A Tournament. The Golden Bears are ranked eighth in the latest power rankings in what will be a 12-team field. Hatboro-Horsham closed out its season with a 9-13 record overall. The Hatters were 6-10 in the SOL.

Non-league
LOWER MORELAND 49, JENKINTOWN 11
The Lions raced out of the gate to a 15-7 lead and then allowed just four points over the next three quarters on their way to the non-league win.
“This was a good, low-stress game to finish the regular season,” LM coach Rich Becker said. “We were able to play 13 girls and work on a few things defensively before our first round SOL tournament game against CB East tomorrow night.
“For this game, after some missed rotations on defense in the first quarter, the girls did a nice job defensively and held Jenkintown to four points over the last three quarters of the game.”
Offensively, Briana McFerran had a strong game, scoring 18 points over three quarters. She had a pair of 3-pointers. Mollie Martin added nine points while Sydney Santora and Emma DiJoseph both had seven points.
