National Conference
Girls
Pennsbury 3, Council Rock South 1
The Golden Hawks applied considerable pressure in the first 10 minutes of play, but the Pennsbury defense was up to the challenge.
“It was the best organized defense all season, “ said Falcon coach Kaitlyn Battiste. “We didn’t give up any dangerous opportunities.”
Following a counter-attack, Lindsay Jones lofted a corner kick into Kersten Formento, who headed it in for a 1-0 lead about 15 minutes into the game.
Formento had another opportunity but smacked the underside of the crossbar.
Just before the half, freshman Emily Vogel crossed the ball to Jones who made it 2-0.
Cara Deola cut the lead in half at the beginning of the second period, but on another counter, sophomore forward Lexi Brown won a ball and fed Jones for her second goal.
Battiste also complimented the play of keeper Shannon Kehoe and center midfielders Molly Phillips and Becca Kovalik.
The Falcons are now 11-4-1 overall and 8-4-1 in the conference.
“This is the time we want to be playing our best soccer,” said Battiste. “This was our best performance as a team. It’s very encouraging.”
With Council Rock North’s win over Bensalem, the Indians pull ahead of South by two points. North still has a huge finale against Neshaminy, while South has two games against Bensalem. If South wins out, the Hawks will win the conference.
Council Rock North 4, Bensalem 0
William Tennent 1, Abington 1
Allison Pio scored for Tennent with an assist from Megan Murphy.
Boys
Pennsbury 1, Council Rock South 0 (2 OT)
It was Pennsbury’s day, as both the boys’ and girls’ teams knocked off the No. 1 teams in the conference. The boys made it a bit more dramatic by winning in the second overtime.
Evan Catterson recovered a rebound off the South keeper and buried it inside the far post.
Though Pennsbury may finish as low as fourth in the league, the Falcons should get a good playoff seed since they are one of two teams to have beaten South and Central League champion Strath Haven.

Continental Conference
Girls
Hatboro-Horsham 5, Central Bucks South 1
A surging Hatboro-Horsham squad took care of business at a slumping Central Bucks South.
Tory Adlam scored to make it 1-0 at the half. She also netted the first goal of the second half. Marykate Bateman (Gina Mallinder assist) and Sam Bickel (Kelsey Shafer assist) made it 4-0 before South scored on a free kick. Karly Shaffert completed the scoring barrage for the Hatters on a hustle play from 20 yards out.
Lindsey Day stopped five South shots.
Hatboro-Horsham still has three league games remaining, including a huge finale Saturday night against C.B. West.
They are now 9-4 overall and 7-4 in the league.
Boys
North Penn 2, Souderton 0
The Knights helped their district playoff cause with the shutout. Both goals came in the second half off set pieces. Michael Robinson scored the first on an assist from Keegan Pederson and brother Matt Robinson notched the second, again on a Pederson assist.
“It was a real defensive game,” said North Penn coach Paul Duddy. “There were not a lot of shots on goal.”
North Penn keeper Sean Murphy stopped five shots.
The Knights move to 9-5-1 overall and 7-4-1 in the Continental. They moved ahead of Souderton by two points in the standings.
Pennridge 2, Central Bucks West 1
Kevin Bailey broke a scoreless tie in the second half, heading in a Jack Duffy cross.
West tied it at one, but the Rams’ Dan Caya scored the game winner with 10 minutes, taking a throw-in off his chest and blasting a shot into the right upper 90.
“It was a good win,” said Pennridge coach Peter Valimont, “Senior Night and a must-win game.’
Pennridge trails C.B. East by a point. Each team has a game remaining—East at Souderton and Pennridge at Quakertown. If East wins, the Patriots claim the title. If they tie and Pennridge wins, the Rams win it by one point.
Central Bucks South 2, Hatboro-Horsham 0
Mike Serban scored the game winner 15 minutes into the contest on an assist from Todd Rainey.
The Titans had to wait another 64 minutes for their next score. Keith Crews (Colin Buckley assist) hit the net with less than a second to play.
Central Bucks East 9, Quakertown 1

American Conference
Girls
Upper Dublin 4, Wissahickon 1
The Flying Cardinals completed an undefeated league season at 12-0. They are 13-4-1 overall and are awaiting the playoffs.
Emily Marvill scored a hat trick and Erin Lafferty scored the other goal.
Plymouth Whitemarsh 1, Upper Merion 0
With Wissahickon’s loss, the Colonials can sew up second place with a win over Norristown in their final league game.
Boys
Cheltenham 1, Upper Moreland 0
Cheltenham is starting to get on the other side of one-goal games.
On Senior Night, it was a freshman that stole the show for the Panthers, who were coming off a 1-0 overtime win over Souderton on Saturday.
Midfielder Christos Yiantos showed great composure when, confronted by the Upper Moreland keeper, he calmly switched the ball to his left foot and unloaded a shot that found the back of the net.
“It was a huge win for us,” said coach Nick Zegestowsky.
It will still be tough for the Panthers to take over second place. The two teams are now tied, but Upper Moreland finishes with Upper Merion, while the Panthers have to take on top-ranked Wissahickon.
“It will be a difficult road for us,” said Zegestowsky, “but we’ll be OK."
Wissahickon 2, Upper Dublin 1 (2 OT)
Dan Matthews scored in the 97th minute to propel the Trojans to the win. Earlier, Ryan Lower scored in the seventh minute to put the Trojans on top 1-0. Upper Dublin's Dan Demchick knotted the score in the 97th minute, setting the stage for overtime.
Parker Schroeder had nine saves in goal for the Flying Cardinals. Erik Riefenstahl had four saves for the Trojans.
