Annalise Messina had a hand in nine goals in a stellar outing, scoring four goals and assisting on five others, to lead the Golden Bears to the win over the visiting Monarchs in Tuesday’s third place game.
The Golden Bears opened up a 7-3 halftime lead and never looked back.
“We came out ready to play today,” UM coach Kim Frantz said. “We connected in transition and defense played solid.
“Our attack found the openings and really worked together as a unit. After our last game (a 14-4 loss to Mount St. Joseph), it was awesome to see us bounce back and really connect.”
A pair of Golden Bears players celebrated milestones in Tuesday’s win.
“We celebrated two players together for reaching milestones,” Frantz said. “Olivia Meakim scored her 100th goal, and Addi Hurley had her 200th save.
“Both players work hard every day and are well deserving of these milestones. Addi had some amazing saves today to keep us in the lead throughout the game. Olivia was able to find the goal in both the first and second half to get three goals on the day.”
In addition to Messina, Reagan Cummins had four goals and one assist. Meakim had a hat trick while Willow Taylor had one goal. Allison LaRocco had a pair of assists, and Isabel Leiter chipped in one assist.
Addi Hurley was credited with 11 saves in goal in the winning effort.
“I am just so proud of this team and all that we have accomplished this year,” Frantz said. “We are excited for our first trip to states and will just enjoy every moment we can. We don’t take for granted how lucky we are to still be playing lacrosse.”
Upper Moreland (19-3, 10-1 SOL) will face District 12 champion Archbishop Carroll in Tuesday’s opening round of the PIAA 2A Tournament. Carroll defeated Cardinal O’Hara 20-3 to capture its 22nd straight PCL championship.
