In a key non-league contest, the Maidens held off a shorthanded Indian squad to earn the win. The Maidens also were down a key player as junior Steph Knauer (injured) did not play, but according to coach Jami Wilus, freshman Tara Rogers – in her first career start - turned in a strong performance filling in for Knauer.
The Maidens scored late in the first half to go into halftime with a 4-2 lead. The Indians rallied to knot the score 6-6 late in regulation only to see the Maidens score in the game’s closing seconds.
Rachel Shaw, Macie Hauck and Brenda McDermott each scored two goals for the Maidens while Garrie Grenfell added a single goal.
For the Indians, Lindsay Rheiner (one assist) and Kara Magley both scored three goals. Mikaela Gribbin also had an assist. Rock North goalie Taylor Beck was credited with five saves.
The Maidens held a 15-6 advantage in shots.
Hatboro-Horsham 18, Central Bucks East 8
Propelled by the five-goal effort of junior Nicole Beck, who also had an assist, the streaking Hatters won their third game in as many outings. Cortnee Daley (one assist) and Caroline Hagan each added three goals while Lizzy Carr (two assists) and Rachel Rauza both had two goals. Katy McKay and Julie McKay each added one goal and one assist.
“Hatboro came ready to play,” East coach Megan Macauley said. “They were very aggressive and took control of the draw.”
Carolyn Remmey led the Patriots with three goals and two assists. Mary Kate Schwartz and Sam Axenroth (one assist) each added a pair of goals while Jamie Burns contributed a single goal.
East goalie Madi Steuber turned away 14 shots in a busy afternoon while Hatboro’s Jackie Giovinazzo had six saves.
Upper Merion 12, Jenkintown 7
Sparked by the four-goal, one-assist effort of Mel Ryan, the Vikings picked up their second win as many days. According to coach Angie Yanocha, Amanda McAteer dominated the midfield, controlling the majority of the team’s draws and ground ball pickups. She also had three goals and one assist.
Casey Griffith added two goals and an assist while Liz Botto, Brooke Dubin and Powell Davis each added single goals. Key players on defense were Tammy Slaughter, Colleen Quigley and Karen Hranek.
