Norristown 14, Upper Moreland 12
The Eagles won their first SOL game in coach Lindsey Earnest’s three-year tenure at the helm on Friday when they defeated the Golden Bears.
“It’s very exciting,” the Eagles’ coach said. “It’s been a long time since they had a league win.
“I’m really proud of my kids for sticking it through. We lose 90 percent of the time, so it’s really nice to see all their efforts made a difference today.”
Beverly Pate led the Eagles with four goals while Morgan Heist, Charmaze Banks and Taylor Foxworth each had three goals.
“Taylor played very well – she had three goals and a bunch of draw control possessions,” Earnest said of her attack wing. “Beverly Pate played well – she had some draw controls and interceptions.
“This is Morgan Heist’s first year at Norristown, and she is definitely an asset as far as settling things down and controlling things on the offensive end.
“Shernai Banks definitely leads our defense, and Taylor Werkiser is another key defender.”
Earnest lauded the effort of goalie Paige Monroe, who had 19 saves.
“This is her first year playing lacrosse for Norristown and playing goalie, and she’s really stepping up and has done very well,” the Eagles’ coach said.
The Eagles actually opened up an eight-goal lead only to watch the Vikings, who trailed 8-2 at the half, battle their way back into the game.
“We kind of fell apart in the second half but picked it up towards the end,” Earnest said. “Also, Upper Moreland stepped it up and picked up their offense.”
When the final horn sounded, the Eagles celebrated their first SOL win in recent memory.
“They were so excited,” Earnest said. “They were really elated to see everything come together.”

Upper Dublin 8, Cheltenham 3
Coach Dave Burton’s game plan was for his team to be disciplined and patient while hoping to maximize their opportunities and minimize their opponent’s when the Lady Panthers faced an undefeated Upper Dublin squad on Friday.
“We knew that we could not stop them, but we thought that if we took our time on offense, it would not only help us get better looks, but minimize the number of times they ran down the field with the ball,” Burton said. “Not only did we execute, but our goalie, Geena Carminati played an unbelievable game.”
Carminati was credited with 15 saves, but the Lady Panthers managed just three goals – all of them by Liz Heiman.
“Geena was amazing in goal and kept us in the game, both physically and emotionally,” Burton said. “I was really happy for her and proud of the effort by our girls.”
Amy Cross led the Flying Cardinals with four goals and one assist while Kelly Cross added one goal and three assists. Emily Hitchings (one assist), Kathleen Speese and Siobhan Brady each added one goal.
“Upper Dublin’s players, especially Amy and Kelly, need very little in the way of an opening in order to get off really good shots,” Burton said. “As well as we played on defense, they still managed to hurt us with their eight-meter offense and impressive shooting.
“To their credit, they did not get frustrated or impatient with the pace of the game. Their girls played controlled and solid throughout the game.
“In the end, I was really proud of our girls. We missed some opportunities to score and make it a bit tighter at times, but I thought we played very smart and very tough against a really good team today.
