CENTRAL BUCKS SOUTH 2, NORTH PENN 1
The Titans picked up a much-needed league win over the Maidens on Thursday, upping their record to 1-1 in the SOL (2-1 overall).
“We needed that,” said coach Joe Bocklet. “We have had whole week and a half off, and we didn’t look right on Tuesday (in a 4-0 loss to Pennridge). We came out and played much better today.”
The Maidens were the first to get on the scoreboard when Tina Miller scored in the 16th minute off an errant kick from the Titans that landed in front of the goal allowing Miller to head it in past the approaching keeper. However, Nikkie Weiss scored the equalizer off a direct kick about 20 yards out only four minutes later.
“Their lead could’ve been deflating,” said Bocklet. “But the girls are playing well and it didn’t really affect them.”
The key component in the Titans’ victory would end up being freshman midfielder Lauren Kylie Walsh, who was pulled up from junior varsity to debut in her first varsity match. In the 73rd minute, freshman midfielder Lauren Wills played the ball down the line to forward Emily Birsa who beat her defender and came in along the end line to serve it across to Walsh who calmly deflected it in off her thigh for what ended up being the game-winner.
“She has really good instincts and knows how to control the ball with her body,” said Bocklet. “She has soccer agility and is comfortable with the ball technically. She didn’t look like a freshman today.”
Play continued for about two minutes after Walsh’s goal before the game was called due to lightning.
Maiden keeper Hanna Lambert turned away seven shots and South’s Emily Polcino stopped six. Bocklet applauded the efforts of junior midfielder Jess Volm who he called the “quarterback” of the match as she was successful at providing pressure and distributing the ball up field.
The Titans face a daunting week of three league games, but Bocklet is happy with where is team is at the moment.
“We had 10 girls graduate again, so it’s a large turnover but we are finally at a point where we are down to details on what needs to be corrected,” said Bocklet. “We are now fine tuning things, and over the next couple of games, we will have an idea of how good we can be.”
The Titans upped their record to 1-1 (2-1 overall). They will face Quakertown on Monday while the Maidens (0-1-1 SOL, 0-2-1) travel to CB East.
“We have a lot of young, eager, energetic girls coupled with some experienced seniors,” said Bocklet. “It will be a good season.”

PENNRIDGE 3, QUAKERTOWN 0
The Rams rolled to their fourth consecutive shutout win over the Panthers to improve their record to an impressive 5-0 (2-0 SOL).
“We are starting to get in a rhythm,” said coach Audrey Anderson. “By no means do we think we will have an undefeated record, we are just trying to fix what we didn’t do well the last game.”
Anderson said the Rams had trouble controlling balls out of the air on Tuesday against CB South, but today it was one of their strengths and it allowed them to possess the ball and deny Panther standouts Shannon Gibat and Linzi Wolfe.
“I thought everyone stood out at one point today, but Andrea Caya was really good out of the air,” said Anderson. “Andrea’s height was a huge help.”
The Rams tallied their first goal in the 27th minute when Ashley Butcher sent her corner kick in to her younger sister Audrey, who finished the ball into the net.In the second half, Caya powered in a low drive from 20 yards out, using a Jackie Stevens assist in the 44th minute to go up 2-0. Four minutes later, Lindsay Sheehan found an open Ashley Butcher who was able to chip the ball over Panther keeper Erinne Finlayson (12 saves) to put the game out of reach. Defenders Julia Rufe and Jess Supp had strong showings for the Rams, and keeper Amanda O’Hara turned away five shots.
Anderson, who was unsure how her season would be going at this point, credits much of her team’s early success to communication.
“We have player notebooks where they write their reactions and goals, and it’s good to see their thinking process,” said Anderson. “It has helped us a lot. I read them after every game and then we talk about them.”
As the Rams enter a tough week next week facing Hatboro, CB West and Souderton, Anderson is hoping her new feedback system will continue to unite them.
“I think any conference game is tough, and it’s a mistake for any team to take the other team lightly,” said Anderson. “Going forward we are going to try and go out and connect passes and move the ball quickly because it has worked in the past few games.”
The Panthers saw their record drop to 0-2 in the league (2-2 overall). They will face CB South on Monday when league play resumes.

CENTRAL BUCKS WEST 0, CENTRAL BUCKS EAST 0 (OT)(Wed Sept 11)
The rivalry between the Bucks and Patriots always creates a highly anticipated match. However, Wednesday night’s game concluded unceremoniously in a tie after being halted by lightning in overtime. Emma Loving had some good looks for the Patriots in regulation, almost scoring early on in the 14th minute and again with only two minutes left in regulation. However, West keeper Grace Bendon denied Loving’s best efforts, making spectacular saves to keep it a scoreless game. Although the game never reached its conclusion, both sides passionately played out the entire 82 minutes, setting the stage for a highly anticipated rematch back at War Memorial on October 2. Both the Patriots (4-0-1) and Bucks (2-1-1) are 1-0-1 in the league. The Patriots will host North Penn on Monday while the Bucks will travel to Souderton.
