The Indians are still trying to figure out how to score, but they took an important step Tuesday. Caitlin Hannegen managed to find the net on assist from Katie McNamara with just two minutes left to play to give Council Rock North a win in its league opener.
“We’re having a lot of problems getting on track scoring goals,” said coach Roman Escobar. “We do real well possessing the ball through the midfield and doing all that. We just can’t find that edge we had last year.
“I was just glad today to see them come out and keep on pushing through, pushing through. We created a lot of chances today, and it paid off in the last few minutes of the game.”
In goal Morgan D’Apolito and Kelsey Kausch combined for five saves to preserve the shutout.
“Tennent’s a tough team,” said Escobar. “They’re really scrappy, and they’re adjusting to a new coach.”
The Indians are now 2-2-1 overall and 1-0 in the SOL National.
Neshaminy 3, Abington 0
The Redskins continued their hot streak in their first league outing Tuesday.
Amy Gallagher, Samantha Kerr and Megan Schafer scored for Neshaminy with assists from Alyssa Kirk, Jamie Mason and Jess Kelly.

Central Bucks South 1, Pennridge 0
It’s always a battle when these two teams take the field. Tuesday was no different. Last year the teams split, each losing at home.
This year the Titans won the first tilt on their own field.
As one would suspect, the game was frenetic with each side hustling and playing a physical game.
After a scoreless first half, C.B. South scored in the 57th minute. Caitlyn Boyle took a shot at the front post following a corner kick. The ball ricocheted off the post to Lauren Buchanan-Dwyer, who buried it in the net.
Titan keeper Meghan Kaminski came up with three key saves, including one on a breakaway in the second half.
“That was the icing on the cake,” said coach Joe Bocklet.
Shots were just about equal with South holding a slim 6-5 advantage.
Bocklet also lauded the efforts of Molly Grove and Ashley Saylor.
“We usually get out to a slow start,” he said, “but today we came out to play. It was a great start.”
With both teams figuring to be in the hunt for a championship, South now has a leg up.
North Penn 2, Central Bucks East 0
Gino Scotto (Megan Kelley assist) scored at 5:35, and Megan Kelly (Lizzy Kohler assist) added an insurance goal at 48:18. North Penn took six shots on goal.
Upper Dublin 3, Cheltenham 1
The Panthers shocked Upper Dublin on Rhoda Moise’s goal in the first 20 seconds of the game.
“Cheltenham has really come a long way since last year,” said UD coach John Topper. “They came to our field and put us under pressure right away.”
But it didn’t take the Flying Cardinals long to get organized as Emily Marvill scored the equalizer five minutes later.
Marvill scored a second goal before half to give Upper Dublin a 2-1 lead at the intermission.
“It was a physical game for the first half,” said Topper.
Marvill scored her third goal to complete the hat trick in the 85th minute to give the Cardinals a victory in their league opener.
“She’s been our only goal scorer so far,” said Topper.
Upper Dublin is now 1-2 overall and 1-0 in the SOL American. The two loses the Cardinals suffered were to Pennridge (2-0) and Downingtown West (3-1).
“We tried to get as strong competition as possible in non-league,” said Topper. “The girls played well but we weren’t executing.”
Upper Merion 5, Norristown 0
The Vikings received a pair of goals from Liz Botto and single goals from Meredith Lorenz, Kristina O’Sullivan and Ali Swider in their big win on Tuesday.
Wissahickon 2, Plymouth Whitemarsh 1 (OT)
Wissahickon won its third straight game by a score of 2-1 against PW on Tuesday. The Trojans fell behind early but tied it up at the 18:30 mark on terrific shot by senior Jackie Carradorini from well beyond the 18-yard mark. Kelly Pierce and Cailin Grey controlled the midfield for Wissahickon, and Ava Esposito continued her exceptional play on defense. S
ophmore goalkeeper Rachel Stone did a stellar job of shutting out an aggressive PW offense in the second half. Regulation played ended with the teams tied at 1-1. After a couple of nice runs by PW, the Wissahickon girls countered, and finally freshman Zoe Gomez beat PW’s keeper in a foot race and pushed in the winner. This was Gomez’s third goal in just two days. She scored the game winner on Monday in the last minute of the game against Quakertown.
The Wissahickon JV squad won 4-0. Jess Kleman scored twice. Haruko Arango-Kautz and Audrey Mack also scored. Keeper Megan McDevitt recorded the clean sheet shutout.
