HATBORO-HORSHAM 3, UPPER DUBLIN 2

For the second time in two games, the Lady Hatters found themselves a goal down late in the second half, and once again the hearty Hatters found a way off the ropes and fought for a come-from-behind victory.
The Hatters got on the board first this time when sophomore Allie Hontz received a cross outside of the 18-yard box and shook two defenders before blasting a shot past the UD keeper. The Cardinals battled back, however, early in the second half and eventually tied the game on a picturesque goal off the foot of Brigid Peyton. Then Upper Dublin grabbed the lead as Julie Cross split the Hatters backs and beat Hatters keeper Miranda Royds on a breakaway.
Hatters coach Ben Winderman credited Royds with keeping the game within reach as she stopped two more Cardinal opportunities.
With the minutes waning, the Hatters subtracted a defender and immediately took the game's momentum back. Sara Kemp fed a ball to Mikaela Malofiy, and the senior striker calmly took a touch on the ball and then lofted a nifty volley into the back of the net. It was Malofiy's second game tying goal in as many games, and her poise continues to impress her coaches and fans.
"She's the complete package," Winderman commented. "I am amazed by her performances but not surprised. She is skillful and savvy and one of the best around!"
Deadlocked at two, the Hatters dug deeper. Emboldened by the play of Kerryn MacBride and Marissa Portelli in the middle, the Hatters pressured the UD goal. At the 74th minute, Maddy McNutt pulled the trigger on a far post shot that was saved, but freshman Erica Paluszak sniffed the far post perfectly and banged home the game winner.
"We were feisty but also fortunate," said Winderman. "We will need to improve in every aspect if we want to be competitive in our division."
The Continental boasts some of the toughest teams around, and the Lady Hatters open their league play Wednesday night as they host Souderton. High school soccer offers little time for celebration or even practice. It's a rigorous test and one which the Hatters are determined to ace.

COUNCIL ROCK SOUTH 2, DOWNINGTOWN WEST 0
The Golden Hawks earned their second shutout in as many outings on Tuesday, and this win - in the face of the most difficult of circumstances – was a remarkable display of strength and courage.
It came just three days after Rock South sophomores Shamus Digney, Cullen Keffer and Ryan Lesher were tragically killed in an accident on Saturday.
“Today was a complete team effort,” coach Kimmy Francis said. “With everything that has happened to the South community the past couple of days, the girls have been really beat up, but they decided to rally and play.
“This one took a lot of strength, and I think it speaks volumes about their character that they were able to overcome some serious stuff and still make things happen.”
Nikki Caffey (Jesse Magee) put the Hawks on the scoreboard, and Julie Rebh (Emily Discavage assist) added a goal to send the Golden Hawks into halftime with a 2-0 lead. Neither team scored the rest of the way.
The Golden Hawks will host Truman in a 3:30 p.m. contest Wednesday in the league opener for both squads.
“It’s going to continue to be a tough week, but we will stand as one and continue to fight,” Francis said.
