CENTRAL BUCKS EAST 3, CENTRAL BUCKS WEST 2 (25-21, 17-25, 20-25, 25-20, 13-15)
The Patriots won a thriller in a battle of the neighboring rivals, capping a successful week that saw East beat its sister school, CB South, two days earlier.
“Wow, this team is a bunch of fighters,” East coach Kerri Rabberman said. “A great match with our sister school who fought extremely hard every point. These girls are the definition of a team and I couldn't be prouder of them. This was a big week for us.”
Ava Napoletano had nine kills and two digs while Caroline Eldringhoff also contributed nine kills, three aces and three blocks. Kaylynn Bryan added eight kills, one ace and nine digs. Kat Montabana had four kills and one block. Aimee Wolf contributed two kills and two blocks. Anna Huchko also contributed on offense. Taryn Zakrzewski had three aces with nine digs. Chloe Mettille had another solid defensive performance with 21 digs and added five aces. Sophie Mettille had three aces, eight digs and 15 assists. Katie Monaghan had one ace, 11 digs and 10 assists.
For the Bucks, Jada Reichwein (16 kills, 7 digs, 1 ace), Alexis Barklage (10 kills, 3 blocks) and Brie Livezey (11 kills, 11 digs) finished with double-digit kills to lead a balanced West attack. Setter Maggie McClusker dished out 38 assists and also had 16 digs. Jordyn Klementovich had a big night defensively, contributing 22 digs and one ace. Magda Videva (5 kills, 4 digs, 1 ace) and Caroline Taylor (1 ace, 10 digs) also contributed.
NORTH PENN 3, SOUDERTON 1
The Indians may have fallen short in Thursday’s match against their neighboring rival, but coach Cori Watson saw plenty of positives.
“This exciting match is proof that we are headed in the right direction,” the Indians’ first-year coach said. “We are expecting change to come slowly and surely as we continue to work hard in focused practices everyday. Minor switches in the line-up, combined with high energy practices are paying off more and more with each competition.”
McKenna Murawski (8 kills, 7 digs) and Alyssa Reiner (7 kills, 8 aces) led the Indians at the net. Reiner also had a huge night at the service line. Grace Petersen had nine digs and one ace while Izzy Feliciani had five aces and six digs. Setter Gwen Anderson had 14 assists.
PENNRIDGE 3, QUAKERTOWN 0 (25-11, 25-17, 25-23)
The Rams took home another victory against rival Quakertown, winning in three sets.
Senior libero Alexa Allelunas paced the Rams defensively and in serve receive while adding a service ace. Offensively, the Rams spread the ball around, led by junior Meghan Cunningham with five kills. Senior outside hitter Morgan Leo chipped in with three kills.
The Rams will next face Central Bucks East in a conference battle next week.
SOL Patriot
COUNCIL ROCK NORTH 3, BENSALEM 0 (25-21, 25-10, 25-13)
The Indians rolled to a sweep of the Owls, notching their second win of the season.
Junior hitter Ashleigh Adams led a team effort by the Indians with14 kills, three aces, 14 digs and one block while senior outside hitter Mary Baniewicz added seven kills, 11 digs, one assist and nine aces in an amazing performance from the service line. Junior setter Kate Logan contributed 26 assists, five digs and one ace. Senior libero Mikayla Adams had12 digs, one kill, two assists and one ace. Senior middle hitter Julia Walton (3 kills, 1 ace, 3 dig, 2 blocks), senior opposite hitter Cora Lake (2 kills, 7 digs, 1 block) and senior middle hitter
Sabrina Pasemann (2 kills, 4 big blocks, 1 ace, 1 assist) also contributed.
Non-league
CENTRAL BUCKS SOUTH 3, COUNCIL ROCK SOUTH 1 (25-20, 27-25, 20-25, 26-24)
The Titans bounced back from a loss to arch rival Central Bucks East on Tuesday to defeat the Golden Hawks in a tightly contested match.
"We were able to bounce back tonight and get a W against a really tough CR South squad,” coach Kurt Godfrey said. “We leaned on some really good defense to keep us ahead.”
Junior setter Shannon Rector handed our 44 assists to go along with 15 digs, five aces and two kills. Junior libero Rian Grant led the defense with 27 digs to go with three aces.
Senior outside hitter Courtney Pohl (22 kills, 13 digs, 2 aces) and junior outside hitter Millie Grove (20 kills, 18 digs) were all but unstoppable at the net. Junior defensive specialist Morgan Schaefer added 11 digs.
“Rian was all over the place tonight and didn't let anything drop near her,” Godfrey said. “I am really proud of her. Courtney and Millie had another incredible night at the net. They simply took control of the match whenever we needed a spark. They are real leaders on and off the court. Shannon has worked really hard to get the timing down with our hitters and she is setting the ball amazingly.”
For the Golden Hawks, Edan Kauer (11 kills, 10 digs) and Kyleigh Bowman (9 kills, 7 digs, 3 aces) led the way at the net. Katie Rodman added 10 digs and two aces, and Alissa Helverson had four blocks, seven digs and four kills. Avery Vaughan added four aces and three kills while Emma Helverson contributed two blocks and four kills.
