PENNSBURY 3, HATBORO-HORSHAM 0 (25-19, 25-23, 25-11)

“Hats off to Hatboro-Horsham for their relentless defense,” Pennsbury coach Bob Burns said. “There were moments I found myself clapping and cheering for the other team's defense. These are the aspects we want to see in our opponents. It is just going to make us better.”
In the end, the Falcons earned the sweep, using a balanced attack and their own relentless defense. Leading the attack was junior middle hitter Rylie Mitchell with seven kills and a 0.700 hitting percentage. Adding to the attack were Madara Bungs with 13 kills, Brigitte Burns with eight kills, and Annika Foundos with five kills.
Leading the way defensively was Brigitte Burns with 12 digs. Adding to the defense were Sienna Sked with eight digs, Madara Bungs with six digs, Nyla Hamburg with five digs, and Annalise Dignan with four digs.
Pennsbury will travel to Bensalem for its league opener Thursday.
WILLIAM TENNENT 3, CENTRAL HIGH 1 (15-25, 25-17, 25-13, 25-17)
William Tennent defeated the defending Philadelphia Public League champion Central High at Central.
“Central has a very good team and gave us all we could handle in set one before we came back and took control of the match midway through set two,” WT coach Brian Bassler said. “I was very proud of how our girls overcame adversity, stayed positive and used what we talked about in timeouts to take Central out of their offense.”
Setter Izzy Goldberg led the team with 32 assists and six aces. Margaux Kellum anchored the defense with 17 digs, while a host of Panthers contributed on the attacking front- Kristina Bentsionova (8 kills), Emmerson McElhinney (8 kills), Aubrey Lynch (7 kills). Ava Stracuzzi (7 kills) and Lauren Marsland (5 kills).
“It was great to see the balanced attack,” Basser said.
William Tennent will travel to Truman on Thursday for its SOL opener.
NESHAMINY 3, DOCK MENNONITE ACADEMY 0 (25-16, 25-3, 25-22)
Neshaminy, cruised to victory Wednesday with a 3-0 win over Dock. It was a full team effort as 14 different players entered in the match.
Samantha Ridge led the way offensively with six Kills. Sophia Havryschak contributed five aces and two kills. Addie Raivitch added three kills alongside three aces. Kaiden Trotta grabbed her first two varsity kills on three swings. Setters Carlie Weiss and Kiley Resh both had five aces. Kira Mattingly and Ada Leonhauser also notched their names in the scorebook for the first time as they both recorded a block each out of the middle. Senior captain Elaina Clark hit .500 and finished with three kills.
The ‘Skins finished with 19 aces as a team.
Neshaminy (2-0) host New Hope Solebury on Friday at 5:00 and look to move to 3-0 overall.
NORTH PENN 3, LOWER MERION 2
The Knights defeated the visiting Aces in a grueling five-set match to notch their first win of the young season.
“The Knights started and finished strong,” NP coach Jynell Brunt said. “We had a fantastic team effort to earn our first win of the season.
“We need to continue to improve on our mental game, but I was proud to see the team step on the gas at the end of the fifth set to earn the W at our first home match.”
North Penn will travel to Central Bucks East Thursday for its non-league opener.
