ABINGTON 3, HATBORO-HORSHAM 0 (25-20, 25-17, 25-16)
Liz Tanis was a force at the net for the Ghosts, finishing with six kills and four blocks.
“She’s been great,” coach Dan Marsh said of his middle hitter. “Liz has worked so hard and gotten better every year. She’s now a senior and a legit middle hitter. She probably had three or four aces too.”
Setter Mary Carter dished out 16 assists, and there was no mistaking the significance of Thursday’s sweep.
“This win was huge,” Tanis said. “Coming in the game, Hatboro is always a big intense game that we know we have to put our all in. Off of warmups, we were like – ‘We really have to be on our ‘A’ game and play our game, no matter what.’
“The gym was really loud, we really fed off the energy, and I think it was really different for our team this time because we didn’t let one point get to us. If we messed up one point, we came right back and we killed it right after. This game I feel like we really came together as a team. We fed off each other. This win is a really good start to the rest of our season.”
The win came on the heels of a come-from-behind win over Pennridge on the road that saw the Ghosts rally from an 0-2 deficit to win 3-2.
“(Coach Dan) Marsh has said that we’ve never pulled out of a 2-0 (deficit) like that, so having that on our back and Hatboro next, we said, - we’re going to come out and play even stronger,” Tanis said. “Honestly, we did. We won 3-0, and it felt really good.”
Abington (2-0 1-0 SOL) will host Upper Dublin on Tuesday, and Hatboro-Horsham (0-1) will host New Hope-Solebury on Tuesday.
