COUNCIL ROCK SOUTH 3, VILLA JOSEPH MARIE 2
The Golden Hawks – sparked by a huge game from Edan Kauer - notched a tightly contested non-league win over the Jems.
Kauer led the Hawks with 19 kills, 13 digs and four aces. Nala Kauer added 11 kills, two aces and five digs, and Shani Sun had nine kills, three aces and 12 digs. Lindsey Corn (19 digs) and Cadence Palmer (14 digs) led the Hawks’ defense. Setter Ashlyn Dinan had 38 assists to go along with 10 digs. Cassidy Melnick (2 aces, 5 digs), Gracie DeSara (2 kills, 3 blocks) and Dara Botnick (2 blocks) also contributed.
Council Rock South will host Pennsbury on Tuesday.
ABINGTON 3, GWYNEDD MERCY 1 (25-23, 14-25, 25-19, 25-17)
Coach Dan Marsh gave his team some added motivation heading into Monday’s non-league road match, promising he’d get his photo taken in front of a butterfly mural that graces the hallway of Gwynedd Mercy if they won.
The Ghosts did not disappoint, turning in a performance that featured a pair of program records and earning the four-set win. Marsh, meanwhile, posed in front of the giant butterfly with the mural’s crown above his head.
Putting their names in the record books were Kenya Lucas with 29 kills and sophomore setter Mary Carter, who handed out a program record 45 assists.
“Both set school records in a fantastic match,” Marsh said.
Sasha Moody added 11 kills, and Shayla Moody had seven. Iris Winegrad (11 digs) and Liv Kratz (10 digs) led the Ghosts’ defense.
Abington will host Wissahickon on Tuesday.
SOUDERTON 3, LANSDALE CATHOLIC 1 (25-15, 22-25, 25-20, 25-17)
The Indians defeated the visiting Crusaders in four hard fought sets.
Setter Grace Boyd had 18 assists, one kill, two aces and five digs. Taya McConaha led the attack with 12 kills and three blocks, and Kay Guessford had seven kills and one block. McKenna Murawski added five kills, six aces and six digs. Alexa Mazzeo contributed nine digs, one kill, three assists and one ace.
Souderton will travel to Quakertown on Tuesday.
