CENTRAL BUCKS SOUTH 3, SOUDERTON 0 (25-18, 25-9, 25-16)
The Titans lost some key starters from last year’s squad to graduation, but they opened the season with an impressive win over the Indians.
"I thought this was a really good start to the season for us." South coach Kurt Godfrey said. "We had a lot of starters graduate last season who had been in our lineup for a while, so it was really good to see our team come together.”
Senior outside hitter Courtney Pohl (17 kills, six digs, three aces) and junior outside Millie Grove (12 kills, 12 digs, two aces) both had big nights for the Titans. Junior setter Shannon Rector also came up big, contributing 33 assists and 10 aces. Junior libero Rian Grant led the defense with 20 digs to go along with three aces and two kills. Senior opposite Olivia Justus added two kills, three digs and one ace.
“Millie and Courtney are really good for us and know how to step up when we need them most,” Godfrey said. “Shannon ran a 5-1 for the first time and I think she did an incredible job tonight. She is stepping into some big shoes for us and she was about perfect for us.
“It was also great to see Liv Justus get her first ever varsity start tonight. She had a few kills for us and I know she's hungry to get more. Overall, we have some errors we need to clean up but I think this is a really good starting place for us. We're excited to start the season off with a win and get back into the gym tomorrow night to prepare for our next match."
For the Indians, McKenna Murawski led the defense with 11 digs. Maddy McCarthy had five kills, five digs and one ace. Setters Nikki Hamilton (eight assists) and Gwen Anderson (five assists) combined for 13 assists. Natalie Truskowski had three kills.
