Continental Conference

NORTH PENN 3, CENTRAL BUCKS SOUTH 1 (25-21, 17-25, 25-18, 25-23)
In a battle of Continental Conference heavyweights, the Maidens prevailed on their home court. The key to the win, according to coach Bryan Yost, was simple.
“The girls never really gave up on any balls, and we gave ourselves a couple of second and third chance points, and we probably won more than 50 percent of those points,” the Maidens’ coach said. “That’s a huge momentum builder.”
The Maidens were led by the stellar effort of senior middle hitter Stephanie Elechko, who delivered 17 kills and boasted an impressive .438 hitting percentage. Teammates Courtney Gill and Isabelle Kerr both added nine kills. Kerr also had a team-high five service aces and 12 digs. Libero Alyssa Chiodo had nine digs.
“There was a lot of effort from everyone and smart plays on everyone’s part,” Kerr said.
“We really did a good job of adjusting to their strengths,” Elechko added.
For the Titans, Abby Mummert led the way at the net with seven kills and three blocks. Teammates Jax Babezki and Lauren Wise both had six blocks. Babezki also had three kills while Wise had a pair. Setter Madi Conroy had 16 assists. Ally Horvath added four kills and two blocks for the defending conference champions.
“Our defense has to improve,” South coach Ulana Keer said. “We had too many letdowns on defense, we had too many letdowns in blocking, too much tipping. There are a lot of things we have to do better.
“I wish we went to game five. They haven’t been tested in this situation. They have to learn how to fight, and different kids have to learn how to step up. If they don’t have that experience and if they don’t step up, they’ll be in trouble. We have a lot to work on.”

PENNRIDGE 3, QUAKERTOWN 1 (16-25, 25-20, 25-16, 25-20)
Sophomore Lauren Drugotch came up huge at the net for the Rams, contributing 15 kills and four blocks to go along with five digs. Senior Karlie McCreary added 10 kills, three blocks and nine digs.
“Karlie started a little slow but led the team emotionally to take command in game two and ended very strong,” coach Tim Moyer said.
The Rams’ defense was led by senior Sydney Keefe.
“Sydney played a vital part of Pennridge switching gears in game three and commanding the set and most of the way through game four,” Moyer said.
Sophomore Arianna Przbylowski, according to Moyer, had her coming out party, delivering eight kills and eight blocks.
Sophomore setter Megan Keefe had 18 assists in the win.

SOUDERTON 3, CHRISTOPHER DOCK 0 (25-22, 26-24, 25-18)
It wasn’t easy, but the Indians eked out a hard-fought win over neighboring Christopher Dock on Thursday night.
“It was a good thing early in the season to get a win, especially after how well they played on Tuesday night,” coach Marlena Musselman said of her team’s loss to North Penn two days earlier. “This was kind of like a reward almost.
“They fought hard, they really did. The energy was different. They weren’t as loud as they were on Tuesday night, but they pulled it together, and they really covered the court better because that was something we were missing on Tuesday night. They played really smart.”
Jen Spause led a solid defensive effort with seven digs followed by Anna Moyer and Anna Dudzinski with five digs each. Alexa Kluka led the attack with six kills and three stuff blocks. Spause also had five kills, followed by Anna Moyer and Bekah Ford with three each.
