ABINGTON 218, PENNSBURY 218
(Submitted article)
Tuesday’s match between two National Conference squads became a nail biter on the ever challenging Centennial-9 at Huntington Valley Country Club. Having lost key players to graduation, both teams are faced with uncertainties in their lineups this season. Each team has a few returning veterans, but consistency beyond those players left this match up in the air for the taking.
Abington looked to be the favored team early in the match with solid scores from Matt Shur (37) and Andy Ring (39). Pennsbury was strong at the top with their one through four players: Alex Simon (41), Ryan Kim (41), Justin Friedman (44) and Chris Dul (44). After players one through six finished, Abington was in the lead to beat powerhouse Pennsbury for the first time in recent memory. The outcome of the match came down to the final group to determine the victor.
Pennsbury’s Pat Laushell and Griffin Foll both came in with a 48, and Abington’s Will Breslin carded a 49, which replaced a previous best score of Jake Dickstein’s 50, moving the Ghosts from 219 to 218. Laushell’s 48 became the hero for the Falcons and got them the win as the sixth score tiebreaker against Abington’s sixth score tiebreaker of 50. While it was a difficult loss for Abington and the second tiebreaker they have been faced with this season, the Ghosts are hungry to rebound in the rematch against Pennsbury on Sept. 16 at Yardley Country Club.
Pennsbury (218) – Alex Simon 41, Ryan Kim 41, Justin Friedman 44, Chris Dul 44, Pat Laushell 48, Griffin Foll 48, Brendan Strange 54, Dan Herbine 57.
Abington (218) – Matt Shur 37, Andy Ring 39, Timmy Gallagher 46, Jack Kurtz 47, Will Breslin 49, Jake Dickstein 50, Taylor Munn 50, Zach O’Leary 52.
