SOL Individual Championships

It sure was different, but it was still wrestling. Four SOL conference teams wrestled in three separate league individual championships this past Saturday, a week before the District One North Tournament, the real start of the postseason. For some it was a walk in the park, as all wrestlers and teams did not compete. For others it was a grind and a statement that they belong in next weekend’s D1 Individual Championships. Quakertown hosted the Freedom and Liberty conference championships in a pool-formatted bracket. The host Panthers cruised to the title as expected in a watered-downed event. Quakertown tallied 159 points, nearly double runner-up Lower Moreland (88).
Council Rock South hosted the Patriot tourney, and walked away with an easy championship with 209 points with six champions. Pennsbury was second with two champs in Quentin Kervick at 113-pounds who had an impressive 10-7 win over Luke Reitter (CRS) who moved up with teammate Cavan Kinne dropping down to 106lbs. Kinne dropped a 4-1 decision to CR North’s Tony Burke in the 106-pound final.
North Penn made it three-for-three with the hosts winning their title at home. The Knights edged CB East by 11-points 155.5 to 144.5. The Patriots competed without standout 215-pounder Quinn Collins, which could have been the difference. North Penn had three champs in a balanced field. The most notable championship featured Teague McCormack (CB West) against freshman phenom Cole Coffin (Pennridge) at 106lbs. McCormack came away with a victory with a pin of Coffin in 4:05. The 106-pound weight class looks to be stacked heading to districts regardless who is there. Kinne (CRS) making the drop along with Burke (CRN) creates a log jam here. With McCormack & Coffin you have four bona fide studs in the North down low, not leaving much room for others looking to advance, seeding will be critical in this bracket next weekend.
It’s back to Quakertown this coming Saturday 2/20/21 for the D1 North tournament, the top four wrestlers will advance to the Southeast Regional tournament.
